Can I make my toddler wake up later in the morning?

Lately my son has taken to waking up at 5:30 am or a little later. He used to wake up around 7. I think this early rising started when he had an ear infection, but he's almost done with his antibiotics and I feel like he's gotten used to this routine, even though I put him in the crib at 7:30 pm. I try letting him cry in the morning, but it seems like he's really awake. I really don't like it. Is there anything I can do? I had read that it was recommended to try waking him a half hour earlier than the time he's waking up and then let him go back to sleep, and that this will ruin this new routine he's started. This was from that book from the Baby Whisperer. Has anyone actually tried this? I could also put him to bed a bit earlier at night (I think if I did a later bedtime he'd still wake up at the same time). What do you guys think?

I put my daughter to bed at 8 and then she wakes up between 6 or 7 in the morning. She doesn't usually take naps anymore though. But she is ready for bed at 8 and usually falls asleep right away. Good Luck!

Funny you wrote this. Last week I decided to let him cry in the morning, and it worked. He woke up at 5:15 and I let him cry till 7 am, and he fell back asleep after 25 minutes, and he slept for a while, woke up and fell back asleep 2 more times until 7 am. The next day he woke up at 6:30 and the next day at 7. So, it worked. I think he got used to waking up early from when he was sick, and I had to break the cycle. Glad I did.

I have been having he same issue. My son is 17 months. He goes to bed around 8pm and is up every morning at 5-5:30am. I am going crazy with this early bed time. Today for the first him I didn't go get him when he woke up. I let him cry it out. He finally went back to bed about 6:15am and work up at 7:30am. I am definitely going to let him cry it out for the next couple of days. It all changed when he got sick and now its become a habit. It makes me sick to my stomach to let him cry in the morning but I have to break this bad habit.

I dunno its totally possible that waking him up a half hr earlier will do the trick simply because my son is 19 months I work all week so I take him to a wonderful sitter. He goes to bed between 9 and 9:30 pm. I wake him at about 5:40 I get him dressed in clothing he can wear between home and sitters sometimes he cries and is super cranky sometimes he isnt. By the time we drop him off at approx 6:05 he is ready to go back to sleep she said he goes back to sleep and wakes up between 7:45 and 8 if he does then he naps in the afternoon around 1pm if he sleeps in past 8ish he does not nap and is ready for bed usual time hope this helps! Our lives are very hecktic not much on schedule this is about only thing actually semi close to a schedule lol
