Childproofing woes

Anyone in SA had to childproof an unusually large set of stairs? The modular systems from Chellino etc are 20cm too short even with all the extensions in!

I have 8 month old twins and it is only a matter of time before they head in opposite directions and one goes head first down my stairs while I'm chasing down the other.

Any advice welcome, please!

Thanks for your replies guys, eventually bought one of the lindam modular systems and although THEY limit you to one extension to make it longer on either , i got handyman to weld more onto the side, it SHOULD work perfectly!

My husband built one for our stairs, because we could not find one that would fit our stairs properly. I could send pictures if you want.

We bought it from one of the big department stores. Either K-Mart, Target or Big W. On it is written, "The first years, by learning curve" It's like a rachetted self locking gate. Opening and closing it is VERY noisy and has scared my son but I got it before he was born when I was looking after my neice and nephew and they didn't seem too bothered by it which is great.

Hope you find something!

We bought a roller gate that is very long! I wish I could remember the name for you but it fits our wide stairs very easily. On the downside it's terribly noisy!!
