Ok so im 34 weeks and 4 days pregnant with my first who is a boy. I'm due January 27, 2010.

I've been having severe Braxton Hicks everyday, nearly all day long. These have been going on for a month and a half now. I went to the doctors two weeks ago and told them what I was experiencing and they said I need to drink more water. I drink tons of water and still have the pains. Its like they don't care. I asked them how my little guy was laying and how much he weighed and just simple basic things. And they constantly tell me to come back. I'm so tired of hearing come back. Every time I go its always the same thing, they weigh me, take my blood pressure, measure my stomach and send me on my way.

I went and had a 3d sonogram done Tuesday the 15th and the technician said my little guy is very low (so low that she has never seen a baby this low) and he is right against my back. If he doesn't move I could have back labor when he is ready to come.

Do the doctors not listen cause its my first or maybe cause I'm "young" I'm 22 years old. I just want to know more in detail what is going on. I have a friend due a week before me and she is already 3 1/2 centimeters dilated and 80% effaced. I'm not saying I think I'm that far along but I would like to know what is going on.

The pains I have take my breath away and make me stop in my tracks. And they normally last at least an hour. How do I get the doctors to tell me more information or even listen to me?

Thanks ladies for all your help.

I would demand them to check me at that point I'm due in a week and any little discomfort they'll check..It's hard cause they see so many ladies and it becomes routine for them..The end of pregnancy I call it weigh in's not appointments.. Maybe see another doctor or midwife within the practice..or if your concerned go to the emergency room..especially if there's blood or fluid..good luck honey!

I am 35 weeks today with my second son and have been on bed rest for a month because I am 50 percent effaced and 1 cent. dilated. My doctors are taking extra precautions because this happened in my last pregnancy. I go to the doctors twice a week for non stress tests and they check my cervix. If your cervix hasn't made any change than they are probably not concerned especially with you being close to 35 weeks I am due jan 28th and they told be that if I went into labor they wouldn't take any serious measures to stop it.

I agree with Jessica F. Anytime you have any doubt whatsoever go to your OB triage explain to them what you are experiencing and have them monitor you. If they feel that there is cause for concern they will call your OB doctor and more than likely keep you on a 23 hours observation if they feel it to be necessary. As for the drinking tons of water, I live in Phoenix, a desert and I am recommended to drink more than a gallon a day to relieve the braxton hicks contractions. So please do not feel discouraged and although you are expecting your first, it doesn't mean you are wrong either. These experience come with learning curves but pregnancy and peace of mind is so much better than with stress and worry. Good Luck!

i am due jan 21st. my doc was the same way, he never listened when i told him i was having the braxtin hicks. they hurt like hell! i ended up in the er for preterm labor at 33 1/2 weeks. i was in another town, so i went to the closest hospital. i wasnt dialated till they gave me the meds to stop the contractions, but i started to dialate. now i am at 2. anyway, they paid more attention to me, so i switched to the doctor that i seen in the hospital. it was the best thing i have done. i am now going in every week (except through christmas n new years) and i get checked every week. i finally got to see how big my baby is, and found out that she in in position ready to go. apparently at 34 weeks, she measured the size of a 36 week baby. still having contractions, been down to 5 min twice now, but doc keeps telling me nothing is changing. but at least he is answering my questions! heck, the other doc didnt even bother telling me that pregnant women are supposed to get two h1n1 shots. my new doc gave me the second one a few days ago. have any friends that really liked their doctors? that might be ur best bet. hope all goes well!

I know it's not what you want to hear, but the braxton hicks are fake, and from what I understand very common especially towards the end. Until you start having real contractions (you'll know them when they come) there's really not much the doctors can do for you except to tell you to drink more water. Also they don't really worry about how far effaced or dialated you are until you are in labor cause once again, there's nothing they can do. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but that's why the doctors aren't responding like you want them to. If you haven't been having complications then everything you've said is typical.

i'm due january 5th with my 3rd, and i've had the same problems you're having with all three of mine. if you want to know if you've dilated or effaced any at your next appt ask them to check your cervix! they can't tell you no. I'm now 38 weeks and i've been dilated at 3 centimeters and 80% effaced since week 35. it's totally normally to go at 3 centimeters for a month or more. but if you're in that much pain the dr's should be doing more. if you really want to know whats going on, the next time you are feeling those contractions and that pain go to labor and delivery! they will monitor your contractions, babies heart rate, and check your cervix
