My baby is 3 1/2 weeks and he eats 3 to 4oz every 2 hours hours day and night.. I really need some sleep! I would think that all that food would help him sleep a little longer at night.. Any suggestions?!

talk to your babies dr. about maybe changing the formula you use, or adding a little bit of cereal to the bottle.. my sons dr. told me to do that because the formual alone and was just not satisfying him (he also has acid reflux.).. i started him on that about a week ago and he is 1month old now, and he sleeps about 6 hours at night now, there are some bad nights but they have been mostly good..

Don't give any baby under 6 months of age rice cereal unless your Doctor says its okay. A newborn stomach and digestive system is not made for that stuff right now. I am not trying to bash anyone, I found out because my babys granny kept telling me to do that and I did some research on it is all.

My baby is 2 momths old and when she was that age she did it too. It is just a growth spjurt and she will soon stop. I found that it helped to lie down with her and feed her while lying on my side. She would fall asleep sooner and after about 15 minutes of lettting her sleep I could pick her up and put her in her own bed. She seemed to sleep longer for me in between feedingds and plus its like my doc. you can sleep while shes eating because you don't have to hold the baby.
I only feed her this way at night, not during the day.

I have bad news: you're not going to get any more sleep, not for a few more weeks at least. Newborns typically eat every 1 1/2 to 3 hours, sometimes going as long as 4 if they're inclined, but there really isn't much you can do to influence them to sleep longer. The idea that using a thicker formula or adding rice cereal to it is pretty much a myth according to most researchers and pediatricians (I've tried it and it didn't make a difference in my son, who was eating every 2 hours for the first 4 weeks of his life). My best advice is to hang in there, and as difficult as it can be, take your naps during the day when your baby's asleep. It took a while, but I've finally given up the idea that I can work on my schedule as opposed to my son's. It does get better, I promise. :D

My babies are almost 3 wks old and they are doing the same thing...and they are eating anywhere from 75 to 100 mls each feed. My midwife said that it could be a growth spurt and should only last a week or so. We'll see. Good luck!
