hey. so my baby boy is a little over 3 weeks old. I had still been taking the motrin they gave me once a day up until a couple days ago. I have been having pretty decent pain on the right side around my hip area. I was wondering if its still normal to feel pain or if its something to be concerned about it. i did decide it was a great idea to turn while sitting down and lifting him out of his swing. I wonder if that had something to do with it.

just looking for some guidance...im a first time mom so this is all new to me :)

i'm a first time mom too and I love this post - I am still having pain after my c-section too (Jan 12th) and was wondering if it was par for the course. I did some research and webmd said most people could expect pain up to the first 8 weeks, but some women experience lingering occasional pain up to the first year (goody). I'm not taking pain meds like I was before, but I've noticed when Samantha has fussier nights (less sleep for me) I'm so much more sore the next morning.

good luck. thanks for sharing. (oh, and I was told by my OB that the pain is traditionally worse on the right side because that's the side she operated from so there is probably more bruising just due to proximity - more pressure on that side during surgery).

Hey there, I have not had a c-section, nor am I a medical proffessional so I cannot give you an incredibly reliable response but as in any surgery I'd say pain is normal for quite a while. A c-section is a rather serious surgery and there are ALOT of layers of tissue and muscle that need to repair themselves. I had a vaginal delivery and it was about 4 weeks before I wasn't in pain from the rip they had to stitch up... and that is less layers to heal than a c-section. So relax, I'm sure it will heal just fine and as Amanda says if its still hurting at your 6 week check-up, just ask your doctor.

i had a section just over 5 weeks ago too, the only pain i have NOW is slight tenderness under my belly button.
however for 3 / 4 weeks after the section i have bad pains in the right side too, i asked my health visitor about it and was told it's because the right side is where the drain was fitted.
do you know what side you had the drain on? because that could be a cause. i agree though, if you're worried... go to your GP, there's no harm going before the 6 week check!

If your scar is healing well, then you're probably fine. Pay attention to the pain and bring it up at your next doctor's visit. If you notice any excess bleeding or clots, call your doctor sooner. Also, any sharp pains I would call about. Dull pains are what you should be having at this point. I had a c-section, but I never took any pain meds for it, and about 3 days after I was home, there was no more pain, but I'm told that's the exception and not the rule.

Sabrina, i also had a very itchy scar and im putting lotion on it, which is making it feel much better!!! i wanted to mention before but forgot, i had major problems getting out of bed after the first 4 days of surgery... the physio or nurses forgot to show me the best way to do it, and so i just would sit straight up, completely in pain and getting stuck half way hovering cause of the pain... the physio came on day 4 to show me the best way to move.. great huh?! lol!

I wonder what makes c-sections so painful for some and not others? I had mine a month ago this coming Monday, and I feel fine. My CNMs have all commented on my attitude... My belly is a little tender just above the incision, but it feels like it's just from being pregnant.... The worse part for me was not being able to stand up straight for a couple of days, and when I would tense to turn over or something the knot would burn like hell. Oh, and my shoulder hurt from gas from everything. It all lasted about a week... Sorry you're having so much pain... hopefully it goes away soon. I'm gathering from everyone else's responses that it lasts a bit. Stay strong :)

Hi all my boy is 5 wks and he was my third c section. I had an infected scar this time but it is now finally looking like it is healing. I still get some pain and tenderness but i was also steralized and not sure if it could be from that too. I will discuss this at the 6 wk check. Tk care all x

Yea, the pulling seems to be the worse part - though if I stand up too quickly it's almost like a muscle cramp pain. I'm glad I could help shed some light. The rest of these posts are shedding light for me.

LeeAnne That makes so much sence. the side that I am having the most uncomfortable pain is the left and that is the side my doc was on... The most uncomfortablel thing for me tho is the tightness and the itching... I want to put something on the scar (neosporen or lotion) something to help with that but dont know if I should.

I was told that the pain can last up to 8 weeks also.

I am a first time mom also and its been about 5 1/2 wks since my c-section and I still have some soreness and tenderness, but it has gotten better over time. My problem is that my incision hasn't healed up all the way yet. That is due to my size, they did a vertical cut and not a bikini cut on me.

I've never had a c-section but i'm a doula and childbirth educator. It's pretty safe to say that it can take 6 weeks or longer to feel like you've fully healed from it. But I've also heard from moms, that years after a c-section that feel pain around the scar. It's major surgery, and I think it just comes with the territory. I do hope you feel better soon.

my daughter is almost 5 weeks and i also had a c section. it was hard on me pain wise because i am allergic to ALL pain relief besides paracetemol so the recovery at the beginning was not at all fun!! :( but after 2 weeks i was walking quite comfortably. some movements i do cause a twinge though! my pain at the beginning also was more on my right side. i would just take it easy and definitely mention it at the 6 week check up if its still causing you issues!! btw, how is everyones scar looking?? mine is terrible on both ends, he over lapped the skin and it looks so ugly! :(
