I am 29 weeks pregnant and I always sleep on my right side at night. I can't sleep on my left because I get dizzy, it's been that way most of my life. The past two weeks have been horrible trying to sleep on my side. My right hip, and leg cramp up really bad and it's really painful. I lay on my back to relieve the pain and then I roll back on my side when I fall asleep. It happens again and again all night long. Then all the next day my back and side will be really sore all day. I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else, or what I can do to help it?

Holli, you are right. I find that if I bring my knee crossed over to the opposite side for a few seconds, that it opens up the vertebrae and sometimes releases the pinched nerve. It doesn't always work. A warmish bath on the lower back beforehand can sometimes do the trick. Lucky it passes after giving birth!

If the pain is in your upper leg close to your hip then it could be associated with sciatica, it's actually very common in pregnancy. If you google sciatica during pregnancy you should be able to find some exercises that will stretch the muscles in your leg that cause it and it should get better soon. I had it in my first pregnancy and it was terrible! As for the back pain, it's just normal, I use a hot pad, lots of massages from my hubby and warm baths to soothe it but nothing makes it go away. Good Luck!

I have the same problem!! my hips, back, and legs all hurt and i dont get any sleep anymore. I tried the pillow thing and it just doesnt help me. I try to do some stretching before I go to bed to try and relax the muscles a bit and I do that also throughout the day. everyone says to just deal because its not to much longer, but it feels like time has stopped for these last couple months!!

i'm the exact same way, and god does it suck. i sleep on my left side, it helps with my chronic heart burn. half way through the night i wake up and my hip is hurting so bad i could cry at times. like stacy said try sleeping with extra pillows. it has seemed to help me a little bit. a pillow between you knees and one under your belly ( that will relieve some of the back pain) . i really feel for you, i know how bad you are feeling. just remember its almost over then you will be able sleep in comfort again.

I get like that. Only I sleep on my left and end up on my back sometine through the night. I have started putting pillows all around to help relieve the pain and keep me from moving all over. The leg pain is horrible some nights. Pillow between the kness has helped the back pain a little.
