How do I get my 6 week old baby to sleep at night instead of all day?

My daughter was born December 18th 2009. (She was due Jan. 6th 2010) The issue is, she sleeps all day and it is next to impossible to wake up... then she's up and fussing from about 10pm til about 6am. I am exhausted and open to suggestions.

Thank you everyone for the helpful advice! We have gotten her into a routine that when we are ready to go to bed, we bathe her and feed her then put her to bed with her soother... we keep giving her her soother when she fusses until she falls asleep, teaching her that unless its feeding time she stays in her bed at night. I also nurse her laying down in my bed at night so that she knows the difference between night time feedings and day time feedings. I have found this routine is working... the time we have to keep giving her her soother gets less and less and she sleeps for longer in between feedings... how good it feels to get sleep at night!

A warm bath at night followed by a feeding and swaddle tends to put them to sleep quickly! Try this a couple hours after she's up... you say she wakes up at 10pm so keep her up and around an hour or two give her the bath, feed and swaddle. Keep doing this every night, hopefully it will work out for you and get better! Eventually she will find out what day and night is for!!! Best of luck!!!!

What is her environment like during the day? I had a similar problem with our little one and she's doing better now. Trying making your house/baby's room really bright - open the blinds, let the sun shine in - also put the baby in the indirect sunlight for a few minutes each day - this helps them regulate their internal clocks as well. Take them for walks in the daylight and fresh air. Finally, when it is nighttime and you want your baby to wind down and sleep - dim the lights, don't speak loudly or over-stimulate. We keep lights to a minimum - I even covered up the light in my bedroom with a towel so it is enough for me to see with but won't wake my daughter when I breastfeed her in the middle of the night. Finally, do everything you can to stimulate her more during the day - put her in a swing, play music, etc. and stay with it. You'll get there - promise.
