How do you get dinner cooked?

My son loves my attention. He is so happy when I just sit with him on the floor and play and interact with him. I am quite happy to do this but there are a few times in the day that I just can't sit there with him. While cooking dinner is one of those times. I bring him in the kitchen with lots of toys and things to do but he still cries and tries to climb my leg the whole time I am cooking. I try not to make it take too long and I do lots of the prep work while he is sleeping but he seems to have trouble with even 2 minutes at a time. He isn't like this at other times in the day that I have chores which take my attention away for a few minutes. I do realize that this is his cranky time but I am hoping that someone might have a few suggestions for me. I hate hearing him cry but we have to eat early because we generally put him to bed by 6:30pm. Any suggestions and support would be great. Thanks!

i use a back carrier. they are SO handy, obviously im very wary whem im cooking that nothing can splash her, but shes pretty far away from the cooker in it anyway. ive carried her from birth, first in a front carrier then onto the back so ive got used to her weight, but maybe you could try on. they really are handy, i use it all the time! there are some pretty expensiver ones out there so watch out, but you caN also get some cheaper ones that do the job. my girl LOVES being up there! annd, i get the dinner cooked!

I put my girls in their highchairs so they can see what I am doing. I will usually give them some fruit to snack on since they see the food I am cooking.

I usually leave my daughter in her high chair in the kitchen with me and she plays with her toys while she digests and I whip something up : )
