How much are we feeding our nearly 7 months old babies?

Hi, my son was 7 months on 1.7.2010. He has completely gone off his bottle. He only has in between 60-180mls in the morning and maybe if we are lucky one of a night time between about 30-240 (if we are lucky). He is having 5 feeds a day, weatbix of a morning, fruit for morning tea, yoghurt for lunch, vegies for dinner and then custard for desert. The food supplements his bottles that he is not having. He was born at 36w2d, weighing 6.1pounds, he now weighs 8.8kilos

They say I was 42w1d when my son was born, but I wasn't late. I must have really been about 39-40 weeks they said. [Cesarean... GRRR] 8 lb 3 oz at birth. 16.4 lbs at his 6 month check-up on the 19th of July. [He turned 6 months on the 18th tho] He's breastfed only [except for formula when it's absolutely necessary - sometimes I have a hard time keeping up]. However he's been wanting snacks, and I can't keep up with that, so I'm starting him on baby food, but I like JUST started. Once a day after his bottle. He eats 6-7 oz every 4 hours or so, except at night. It's off and on with sleeping through the night/waking up. :/

My little boy was 6 months on the 11th. He eats 3 tbs of cereal and a 5 oz bottle in the morning (7:30) and that holds him till about 11:00. He then gets a snack 4 oz which holds him till the 6 oz at 1pm. He then sleeps for 3 hours and has 4 oz at 4pm. He has dinner (6:30 - 7:00) which is the same cereal as breakfast and about 2 oz of vegies. He goes to bed at about 8:30 with the 8 oz bottle that made the cereal for dinner. He sleeps till about 7am where it starts all over again. He was born at 37.5 weeks weighing on 6lbs 3 oz and now weighs a wopping 21 lbs. The doctor isn't worried though.

My LO was 6 months last week, she has 3-4 x 8oz bottles during the day, as well as 3 small meals (consisting of cereal, fruit & veg). She sleeps 11-12 hours a night & weighs about 16 1/2 lb (she was 7lb 11 when she was born). She hates pureed food, would much rather eat lumpy food or stuff she can pick up.....& she loves cheese spread sandwiches!!! lol

My daughter eats 2 to 3 times a day. She has 1 to 2 tbsp. of rice or oatmeal in the morning with a 2 oz. jar of fruit, then at night she has 1 to 2 tbsp of rice or oatmeal with another 2 oz. jar of veggies, or she just eats a 4 oz. jar of veggies with no cereal. Then on occasion she'll eat lunch which will consist of a 2 oz. jar of veggies. She also breastfeeds on demand, usually every three hours during the day, then will sleep 4-6 hours at night before waking up for a feed. She was 6 lbs. 10 oz. at birth and at her 6th month check up on the 12th was 13 lbs. 14 oz.

My son turned 6 months on the 22nd. We give him 3 spoon feeds a day and he'd also take about 4 onz of his formula after a solids feed. Plus a 7 onz bottle of formula between each meal. We put him to bed between 8 and 8:30pm and he gets up at 8am. He was 7lbs 3onz when he was born and he's 18lbs now.

My daughter was born Jan 6th, and she only wants solids.... I can only get her to drink formula in the morning (with some cereal in it), about 150-200ml. Then she eats a jar of fruit a couple of hours after that, a jar of meat/veggies + a jar of fruit at noon, a jar of veggies + ½ a jar of fruit in the afternoon and porridge 100-200ml before bedtime. She sometimes drinks milk from a sippycup, but onle 10-50ml a day. Water goes down much easier.... =)

My daughter started solids just before she was 6months and she is pretty much the same weight. I still breastfeed her 6x day and she has solids at lunch (normally 2x ice cubes of fruit with rice cereal/porridge or with some yoghurt) and now has a mix up of veggies at dinner (about 4x ice cubes) with a little fruit for dessert (1x ice cube with baby custard). She has so far had potato, sweet potato, carrot, carrot with parsnip, broccoli, pumpkin, banana, pear, apple and apricot. I follow a book about introducing foods to your baby, she absolutely loves eating solids!

My son will be 7 months on 2aug his birth weight was 6.6lb & probably wieghts about 19lb now. his been on solids from about 3 months as advised by his doc as his always been a very hungry baby. so his menu is 6-7oz of formula when he wakes up, breakfast is cereal mixes with 5-6oz formula. Lunch is baby food No.2 with juice or water. Suppers normally consist of night time cereals or foods with 5-6oz of formula. He sleeps right through the night except when his bothered by teething.

My son is turning 7months on the 5th and i give him 5-7oz of formula in the morning and at night wit oatmeal. During the day he gets fed baby food veggies & fruits and for dinner he gets baby food dinners (meats and veggies stage2) and fruits. He only gets formula 2-3 times a day and gets spoon fed the rest of the day. His snacks are banana puff wit juice. He was born @ 9lbs and now weighs 19.6lbs he doesn't even look his weight cause he's so tall! I'm a new mom and the doctor says he's a healthy baby and eats really well.

A couple people posted- let your child lead the way- very true! My guy was born big too (9lbs/7oz), not chunky, just a big baby! He has always had a huge appetitie, so much that we started solids at 2 mths with our drs blessing because she didn't know what else to tell us! Babies self monitor- and know how much they need. A rule of thumb I've read and been advised by my dr is to make sure they are receiving 30 oz. of formula a day, fill in with babyfood around that. He always eats his veggie first and then his fruit (an easier switch than to get the sweet first!).

Breakfast: 3-4oz. of rice cereal mixed with juice, 3oz of water mixed with 3oz. juice in a bottle, maybe a couple oz. of formula. Lunch: 1/2 a Gerber container of veggie, than a 1/2 of fruit, followed by however much formula he wants (usually 2-6oz). Mid afternoon: However much formula he wants (usually 10-14oz.) Dinner: 1/2 a Gerber container of veggie, 1/2 of a fruit, followed by however much formula. Before bed: however much formula (usually 6-8oz).

And he then sleeps for 13-14 hrs. straight through the night!!! Has slept all night since 5 wks. He is a big boy, but not too chubby (12-18mth clothes). They know how much food they need- people tell us we're crazy to let him eat that much that he doesn't need it. But he lets us know that he's still hungry-he's about off the charts for percentiles but our dr. is pleased with his body proportion.

some babies just don't eat. My second boy only started to eat at 8-9 months. He is a very good eater today, but was a very big baby. He just didn't need anything more. My third was also a bit like that. My fourth is now a girl and I started to give her cereal at 4.5 months. She was just not satisfied with only the breast milk. She only needs it once a day still (she's now 6 months), but I give her a bit more now. Don't want her to go totally of the breast though...

My daughter was 6months on the 21st and im still breast feeding she also has 3 meals a day xi havent found anything she dosent like yet xand have started her with finger food as she has been having puret foods since 4.5 months as she started to cry when we ate and mimic us chewing.she sleeps 8 till 8 and is a very happy and content baby.

My son was 6 months on the 11th, he weighs about 21lbs (9.620 kg) and he eats about 200-250g of solids per serving (that's about 1/2 lbs). He gets vegetables around noon (or a little earlier than noon), and fruit in the afternoon.
He's got a lot of allergies so I have to be careful about what I'm feeding him, but so far he's had carrots (his favourite!), squash, sweet potato (no success), zucchini, fennel, cauliflower, Belgian endive, beetroot and celeriac (no success either). I usualy mix the vegetables with either potatoes or another starch (couscous, brown rice, millet) and always add a little bit of vegetable oil. The ratio vegetables vs. starch is 2/3 to 1/3. From six months on, you can also introduce protein, but so far I've given my little one only a bit of steamed chicken mixed in with a fennel-potato mash (about 10g of chicken).

For his afternoon meal, I give him apple, pear, apricots, melon (big hit!), prunes, nectarines (loves them!) and I give it to him either straight (just one fruit), or I mix 2 fruits together. If the mixed fruit is too runny, I add a bit of brown rice flour.

Since my little one has so many allergies, my doctor advised to cook or steam all fruits and vegetables to reduce the risk of developing new allergies. Next check up is in September, so I'll keep doing that at least until then.

My daughter turned 6 mnths on the 11th, She gets solids 2 or 3 times a day and drinks inbetween 5 and 6 7oz bottles (every 3 hours...only goes over if shes nappin) and is just about 18lbs (5lbs 15oz @ birth @ 37w2d)

My son just turned 6 months yesterday and he gets a 60z bottle at 7am, about 1 1/2oz of fruit and 3 tbsp cereal(mixed with 2 oz formula) at 930am, 4oz formula at 1030am-11am, a 7oz bottle at around 130-2pm, a 4oz bottle at 5-530pm, 1 1/2oz veggie and 3tbsp cereal( mixed with 2oz formula) at 6-630pm, and then at about 730-8pm he gets a 4oz bottle before bed and e sleep all through the night untl 7am the next morning. But honestly im a new mom and a have no clue if thats how it should be. It works for him. he only 290z formula in a day but gets 2 small food meals in there. so im not sure if that helped or not. :)

Ronisha, Dont worry...the breast milk is best and is complete food. Feeding the other stuff at this point is just for "learning" about food. It's okay, he'll eat when he's ready...Read the book, "Baby Led Weaning".

My son will be 6 months on the 28th and is eating 2 oz bottle, 3 tbsp oatmeal, and a 2.5 oz tub of fruit in the morning, then two 6oz bottles, then 2.5tbsp of rice cereal mixed w/ 1/2 tub of fruit and a tub of veggies. then has a 7 oz bottle before bedtime. he rarely wakes up for feedings at night anymore just occasionally.

My son is big too! He weighs 18 pounds and he turned 6 months on the 8th! He weighed 8 pounds when he was born! In the morning he gets 4tbl of oatmeal cereal mixed w/ 2 oz of formula, 2oz of fruit and a 4oz sippy cup! Then lunch a 4oz jar of veggies with a 5 oz sippy cup. The next time a 7oz bottle. Then dinner 3tbl spoons rice cereal with 3 oz veggies, then before bed he has another 7 oz bottle! He is my big eater! I called the doctor and asked her and she said he needed to eat spoon food 3x a day and 22oz of formula give or take a couple! I hope that helps out!

My son turned 6 months old on the 5th, he's been eating solids since he was 4 1/2 months old. He eats an 8oz bottle for breakie (had to stop giving him solids for breakfast because he didnt want to drink his milk anymore), then he eats half a jar of veggies and half a jar of fruits for lunch plus a 5-6oz bottle, for supper he has 2-3tbsp of cereal plus 5-6oz of milk and then he has an 8oz bottle before bed.

He was 8lbs 13oz at births and he now weighs 21lbs12oz! At 2 months he was already eating almost 8oz, took a while for us to get into a good feeding schedule when he was little-er, little man was quite the little piggy! Also I started him on a bit of meat mixed with his veggies at lunch. Right now he only has a bit of turkey!



(Oh, and when I started him on fruits and veggies, I started him on fruits first, and he still loooves all of his veggies)

My son, born January 14th., weighs 21lbs, 15 ozs.. I feed him what he needs. He eats the food & cereal but I only give him a bottle when he fusses which is usually every 3-4 hours. I give him a bowl of cereal before bed & 1 fruit & 1 vegetable (4oz.) during the day. He is a big boy but he is content & sleeps through the nite at least 10 hours. Lourenzo was 8lbs. 5ozs when he was born.

Our boy feeds on demand. He has three solid meals a day, fruit and cereal for brekky, yoghurt for lunch and meat and veges for dinner. He has about 5 bottles a day, usually about 180-200ml each. Sometimes he needs a little more, sometimes a little less. We just watch him and if hes hungry we feed him :)

My son drinks 3-4 7oz bottles a day, 3 Tbsp of oatmeal and 1/2 a tub of the gerber fruit in the morning, and a full tub of veggies (1st foods) for lunch. The 2nd foods are bigger so he doesn't get the whole tub, but most of it if thats what I'm giving him. He was born 7lbs 6oz and now he's 6.5 mos and weighs 19lbs 3oz

Hi! My little girl turned 6 months on the 7th! She eats 2 Tbsp. of Gerber Oatmeal & 2 Tbsp. of frut in the morning and 2 Tbsp. of Gerber Rice & 2 Tbsp. of veggies at dinner time. She also takes about 6 - 4 to 6 oz. bottles of formula per day. We are getting ready to start a 3rd meal of solids at lunch time tomorrow... Leigha was born at 6lbs 8 oz and is now 18lbs 13oz! 9oz more and she'll be triple her birth weight!

My daughter turned 6 months on the 21st. I feed her twice a day. The food usually consists of either veggies, a little bit of fruit or greek yogurt with a little water so it's not so thick. Tried baby cereal but she does not like it. Usually for each feeding it's about 3 or so TBSP of food. She also breastfeeds every 3 hours all day and night long. She weighed 8lbs 14 oz at birth and is now 21lbs.

My daughter was 6 months on the 10th. we give her between 5 and 7 ounces of formula in her bottle and she gets the equivalent to half a jar of food for breakfast( but we giver her cereal) and she eats about 1 jar of veggies before bed, sometimes she only eats half of it though. My daughter has been on solids since about 4.5 months, my doctor said because she was eating so much at her feedings we could start her on solids. She is still pretty little to 14 lbs 11 oz. Was 7lbs 11 oz at birth.

My son sounds like a piggy lol My son just turned 6 months the 15th he eats a 4oz jar of fruit in the morning and a 4 to 6oz bottle for nap after that (make 4 if he wants more i get another 2) lunch is a 4oz jar of veggies and a 4 to 6 oz bottle for nap shortly after that and dinner consists of either a 4oz jar of fruit or veggie or a 6oz babie meal and usually a 4 oz bottle for another nap before bedtime then he gets a bit of cereal before bed and a 6oz bottle and is STILL waking once or twice a nite for 4oz bottles plus he gets the occasion juice or water if its really hot out he weighs 7lbs 5oz was 6lb 5 at birth

My 6 mo. old eats 4 oz at every feed which is every 4 hours. Then in the morning 1 tbsp. cereal, and however much fruit he wants (usually less than an tbsp.), then in the evening 2 tbsp. cereal and again however much vegetable he wants. I scoop out the fruit and veggies out of the jar with a spoon from my silverware until he doesn't want anymore. He's 17.5 lbs. He's eating less than the other babies mentioned here, but similar sizes. All babies are different. I hear the best thing is to let your child lead the way (until they're full) at this point, otherwise you'll be developing bad patterns of overeating, which is unhealthy.

I just stated solids so my doctor said to stay with veggies and cereal for a bit and slowly introduce fruit. He is breastfeeding still 8 times a day and getting most of his nutrient that way. He is still pretty little, just over 14 Lb.

My daughter turned 6 months on the 14th as well. She was also 2 1/2 months premature. My doctor told me to start solids when she turned 6 months from her birthdate. She drinks 8 5 ounce bottles a day.. She gets fruit and cereal for breakfast and veggies and cereal for supper. She has had sweet potatoes, squash and peas so far.. peas arent a hit so I mix a bit of sweet potatoes in with them. She has had banana's and apricots so far for fruits. She was born at 3 lbs 2 ounces and today she is almost 14 pounds.

My son will be 6 months in 2 weeks, and he is also 17 pounds. Everyday he has 3, 8oz bottles of formula, and whatever he doesn't have in milk after hes done eating I mix it with cereal. I also give him 3oz of homemade baby food at every feeding. To: Erin, your son will not develop a sweet tooth if you give him fruit. Fruit such as apples, bananas and pears play a vital role in the first foods your baby should have. Food doesn't exactly taste the same to them. My son had fruit first, and still loves his veggies. They need a equal variety to get all the nutrition.

My son just turned 6 months yesterday. He is eating solids twice a day. Usually a tbs of cereal and a tbs of veggies. I am staying away from fruit for a bit so that he does not develop a a sweet tooth. Eventually I will start 3 times a day and slowly increase the amount at each feeding.

my son turned 6mth on the 16th..we give him 6oz of formula in his sippy every 3 hours as needed (he sleeps 8-10 hours at night without a bottle) and we give him 2oz of vegies and 2oz of fruit and/or cereal before bed with another sippy of formula. he was born at 36weeks and was 6lbs 11oz now he is 17lbs!
