My born on Jan2010 son sleeps for about 10-10.5 hours at night and 2 naps during the day. The first one is about 1.5-2 hours long and the second one is very short, mostly only 30 mins though very rarely he'll sleep for about 1 hour or so. In total, he sleeps for about 12-13 hours a day. I'm afraid that it's not enough. I read that the minimum should be 14 hours with some wide variations. I would like to know if there are some other LOs who sleep less than the recommended hours.

My daughter also born in Jan usually takes 2-3 short naps a day (30-45mins). She sleeps 9-10hrs @ night but still wakes up to eat or for her sucky.

My LO sleeps 10-11 hours at night (8pm-ish to 7am-ish). She will occasionally wake for her paci and still takes a bottle around 5am. She naps 2x a day, around an hour each but it varies.

My son sleeps between 9 and 10 hours at night and between 2 and three hours in the day depending on what we are doing and how he's feeling. I think sleep patterns vary I wouldn't worry at least he sleeps at night!

Don't worry. Your LO is getting the sleep that he needs. My son sleeps 9-10 hrs. at night and takes 2 naps during the day. Either one is anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hrs.

I have the same problem and was/am worried about it too. My son usually sleeps around 9.5-10 hrs a night and in the morning he'll nap around 1.5 hours and 30-45 minutes in the afternoon. Often I have trouble getting him to sleep in the afternoon. He fights his naps. And I get him to sleep by nursing - not sure if that's a good or bad thing. He has a cold now, so it's screwed up his whole sleeping pattern.

Maddix is the exact same! As they get older they require less sleep I think.

Hi! My daughter also born in January goes to be around 9pm and sleeps until between 8-9:30am (11-12.5 hours) and naps 2x a day also. Each nap is maybe 45 minutes. Sometimes she will take a 3rd early evening nap when we go for a walk. I think each baby is slightly different. Does your son seem tired, fussy or cranky? If he is happy and eats well I'd say he knows what is best for him!

My daugher is 9 months, 1 week. She goes to bed around 9 p.m. and usually wakes around 6 am. She takes her first nap around 10:30 and stays asleep until 11:30 and then wants another nap around 2:00 p.m.

my son goes to sleep at 8...gets up around 8 or so in the morning goes down from a nap from 10 - 11 1130 and then takes another nap at 2 until 3 to 4 if you baby isn't cranky and stuff there is no reason to be counting hours if you baby is happy no reason to wonder

I don't worry about the recommended hours, to be honest with you and maybe this makes me a bad parent, but no one knows my kid like I do. I let Jack decide when he is tired and he's pretty consistent with the times he wants to nap and go to bed. He has definite signs that he is tired and those are what I follow before he has a complete meltdown. He goes to bed between 7:00 and 8:00 and I get him up at 5:45 in the morning so I can get him to daycare and myself to work (approximately 10 hours). Then he naps in the car to daycare (about 45 minutes) and home from daycare some days (another 45 minutes). During the day he naps like your son, one long one short and for about the same amount of time. The way I see it, if your baby is happy and playing, he's getting what he needs.

My son goes to sleep between 8-9pm and wakes up between 8-9am, then takes one nap during the day that is usually about 2-3 hours. if he doesn't get a good first nap for some reason he will sleep for about an hour in the evening but that rarely happens!!

My daughter sleeps about 10 hours a night and if i'm lucky 11 hours. She does however wake up occasionally when her pacifier falls out. she also takes 1-2 naps a day. they are both usually about an hour each..sometimes a little longer or a little shorter.

I have read that they need between 12 and 14 hours. Mine sleeps 11 or 12 hours at night and between 2 and 3 hours of naps during the day.
