How was your labor??

With my son I was in labor for a horrible 73 hours. I had an epidoral to ease the pain (my whole labor was in the back with both children) that one i guess the tube came out of my spain becuase it stopped working so they gave me a second which they missed so they had to give me a 3rd and this time they doubled so i was numb from neck down instead of wist down. I push for about 25 minutes, when He was born he was blue because he didnt get enough oxygen during the labor. With my daughter i was only in labor for 15 hrs and pushed for 8 minutes, BIG DIFFRENCE FROM MY SONS. After she was born the after birth refused to diliver as well. I was trying to push that out what seemed a lifetime but was only 30 minutes. I remeber my docter put her leg on the table and while i was pushing she was pulling. Needless to say they rushed me to the OR for a DNC to clean me out as they had put it. During the purcedure I lost 2 1/2 liters of blood so I had to get a blood transfusion of 2 units. I was exausted and my daughter was born with hole in her lung and they rushed her to Loma Linda Childrens Hospital in the ICU. So I didnt get to see her until she 10 hours old. She was there for 3 days. That was the longest time of my life.

I was due to have my son on Jan 18, 10, but went into hosp. Jan 5 to be induced because of pre-clampsia. I went in on the 5th, was in Labor for 34hrs, didn't really feel any contractions until jan. 7th, when he was born at 3:30 pm weighing at 5lbs. 10oz. I only pushed for 30mins. It was very very painful & I tore a lil bit, but I would do it all over again because I got My Lane out of it!!

I almost feel bad for saying I had a completely painless, 4 hours of labor. I went past my due date so I had to be induced. Apparently, it made me have contractions, but I felt nothing. My water broke, that afternoon, and after 4 hours of active labor baby Bella wanted to come out! The nurses didn't expect it was time to push so soon so they told me not to and ran to call my doctor. A couple of pushes later it was over. I was very lucky though!

hi i also had such miserable labor and was all groggy after going through12 hrs of pain. at time of pushing i was unable because my back was killing me. i still have back pains upto now.am glad ashley is my last

First Son due January 26th 2009, came on the 22nd. Went into labour at about 2am, really hard contractions, got to the hospital at 5am, got my eidural at 8am, delvered him at 10:52am weighing 6lbs 3ozs. When I was done I said. "I could do this again no problem'.

Second son due January 21, 2010, came Jan 9th. Went into labour on the 8th after pulling carpet out of our room around 4pm. Had some contractions that were starting to get strong, didn't go to the hospital until 4am on the 9th when I coulodn't take it anymore. Got my epidural as soon as they checked me, and delivered at 11:12 am a 5lb 14oz baby boy.

I got epidurals with both my labours and will do it again if I have more. My hats off to anyone tha does it naturally, it just isn't for me.

I have 3 beautiful children and 3 completely different birth expieriences.

#1 - Jan 2001 was induced, 21 hrs hard labor & no progress, emergency c/s when the baby showed signs of distress, had lots of drugs and did not BF because of the pain meds. By the time I was with it enought to realize what happened, DD refused BFing
#2 - June 2008 was a scheduled c/s. Worst. Expirience. Ever. I was nervous about being awake, then my spinal went too high and I couldnt feel myself breathing even tho I was but I had a panic attack and then they pretty much sedated me as soon as they let me see her. But I didnt have any major drugs after I woke up & nursed her about 4 hours after birth - too long for my opinion but they said it was ok.
#3 - January 2010 another scheduled c/s for the 21st (due on the 28th) but he decided he wouldnt wait & I went into labor on my own on the 13th - long story short - hubby was out of town& due to a clogged fuel nozzle on my furnace, I was staying with my parents that night with my two older girls. Didnt even realize I was in labor until about 2 hours later & started timing the pain - between 3 & 5 minutes apart for an hour so I called the dr - he said not to rush but get there within an hour. When I got there they were still 3-5 min apart & I was 4.5 cm - my doctor finally showed up & decided to do the c/s that day After my last expirience I was freaked out that it would be like the last - this one was awesome. After they got me in the OR I was nervous but as soon as they had the needle in it was perfect - I was even cracking jokes at my dr lol. I got to see my DS for a few minutes but since I had gestational diabeties they insisted he be taken to the NICU for monitoring. I wanted to see him so bad but i couldnt move.. they brought him back about 5 hours later. We had some BFing difficulties due to his tounge-tie but we eventually got the hang of it.

My daughter was due 4th january 2010 but hadnt arrived so i was induced on 13th january 2010. After being induced at 12noon i was told i would be checked on 12 hours later as it was my first and they didnt expect anything to happen very quickly. I immediatley started having small contractions which got bigger and bigger and were happening a lot. I couldnt sit or lie down as the pain was unbearable so had a walk around the hospital. Told the midwife that my waters had broken and she arranged for me to go to a labour room as she thought baby might be in distress so hooked me up to a monitor. After about 15 mins felt like i needed the toilet and then i knew baby was coming. She arrived at 7.30pm after being in established labour for 2 hours, weighing 8lb 4oz and was beautiful and totally worth the pain. We were allowed home two days later. The labour wasn't half as bad as i thought it was going to be and i think the contractions were the hardest part!!

Also I just want to say to the women who are saying they were told to push...DON'T!!! I'm sure you realized that when it's time to push your BODY tells you not a nurse or doctor. In a lot of cases that would be a big reason you would tear.
Also I didn't have any drugs, the doctor broke my water, and I pushed for about 30 minutes (didn't push at all for the placenta).

My daughter was due December 31, 2009 but wasn't born until January 2, 2010. Near the end I was sick of being pregnant and was willing to try almost anything to bring on the labor. My mother suggested to do something that takes a long time, like cook a big supper, or play a board game. My fiancé and I sat down and played Clue and Monopoly for a few hours and when I got up to make supper I noticed it felt like I had bad menstrual cramps. I knew this was going to be the beginning of labor, so we started timing the contractions, and right from the start they were about 5 minutes apart. After I cooked and ate supper, I called my mom (she was the one who was driving me to the hospital) and had a shower while I waited for her. We got to the hospital at about 10pm on the 1st, and I was told I was maybe 1cm and to go home since this was my first baby and I probably wouldn't even have her within the next day. We ended up back at the hospital at 4am and I was 7cm. At 8:18am my beautiful baby girl was born. She was very healthy (7lbs 1oz and 19inches long). I was able to take her home the next day. I took my labor and the health of my baby for granted, because I never realized until the past few months how lucky I was. Many of my friends and family who have had babies since I had Keagan have had problems either with labor, or with the baby and have had to leave them at the hospital (one has had a baby in the hospital for over 2 months now and the poor baby has already had 4 surgeries). I was very lucky when it came to the birth of my daughter, and I just want to say that the women who have problems or have had to leave their babies are extremely strong women!!

My son was due on 26 Dec 2009. I has a sweep on 31st Dec, and then woke up the next morning at 5am with terrible back pain and first contractions. Went to hospital and he had moved from being lined up perfectly to being more sideways and that is what was causing all the back pain. Went to hospital at tea time on 1st Jan. My waters didn't break until 1 am when I was 8cm dilated, so 20 hours after the start of labour. But then had head midwife and whole team of doctors come in and they asked me to push. Nothing happened so was told I would need an emergency caesarian under general anaesthetic as problem with my baby. His heart beat had dropped to half and stayed there. So was put under and he was delivered at 1.27 am. Was scary as they were saying things like we don't need a consent form as this is an emergency. Thankfully he was fine. I lost 3 litres (nearly 6 pints) of blood as they couldn't stop me bleeding. But was home 3 days later and fine!

my son ryan was due on the 4th january 2010, nothing happened, so three days after my edd, i had to have a membrane sweep but it didnt work because he was too high, they gave him a few more days to see if he would drop and then did another sweep, i was term plus 7 then. on the wednesday after the two failed sweeps, i saw my consultant who booked me into qa hospital to be induced but the hospital didnt have a bed until early saturday morning, i was induced 7am that morning, i eventually went into labour sunday afternoon but it didnt progress quickly enough for the doctors, so they put an epidural in (while i was having contractions - double the pain) just in case i needed a csection, they left me for two hours came back and decided to do a csection but the epidural failed halfway through the section so i felt them cutting me, they tried twice to top up the epidural but it didnt help, so they put me out completely and ryan james was born at 18.57pm on sunday 17th january 2010 he was almost two weeks late, although i had a rather bad time of it, ryan is completely worth it, he's almost 6 months now, i wouldnt change him for the world, he makes me smile everyday, he's such a character, love you ryan xxxxxx

Wow... I'm so envious that you only pushed for 10 mins and then 41 mins (including the 30 mins for the afterbirth). My son was due on Dec 28th, but he came late. My contractions started at 8:00AM on Jan 10 and he was born at 5:14AM on Jan 11. (He turned 6 months yesterday!) I started pushing around 2:30AM, so I pushed for almost 3 hours.



I also had my son naturally with only a little Nubain and a little Gravol. I didn't want an epidural and am so happy that I made it through without one.



My labour was also back labour. My boyfriend rubbed my back for about 3 hours straight before I went to the hospital. It was the only thing that alleviated my pain.

went into hospital so they could break my water at 830am ( i was dialated to 5 but no pains) starting feeling contractions around 9ish had her at 11:13am :) pushed for 15-20 mins & she was born.

With my first daughter born Oct. 18 2008 I went into labor on the 16th, and after 41 hours of labor, 26 hours of intense labor contractions 60 seconds apart, on a full dose of pitocin and three hours of pushing they decided to do a c-section because she was stuck. For our second child we had a planned c-section for Jan 11 2010, but she decided that she wanted to come before that, so two days before our scheduled section I went into labor had contractions every 3-4 min, but had had false labor several times before, and refused to go to the hospital...the next morning, I woke up, and was bleeding, so we rushed to the hospital where they told us everything was fine, and the bleeding was due to rapid effacement I went from 0 to 75% effaced, and had dilated 1/2 a centimeter, I had already been at 3 centimeters, so they went ahead a did the c-section that day, instead of risking me going into intense active labor. Our second daughter was born very quickly, and weighed in at 6 lbs. 10 oz.

My baby boy was born on 15th jan 2010.
I gave birth to Elijah James (my first baby) when i was 21yo and my labour lasted 36hrs. I had a water birth which went according to plan,thank god. My waters did not break and my contractions where 5minutes apart. When the birthing suite was available I was in the tub for the last 4hrs and i birthed in it. It was fantastic, the weight was taken off my stomach and back and the contractions where I remember somewhat painless, it was definately the pushing him out that hurt the most in the end,lol. I had a drug free unassisted birth with no tearing, and i was told that the water helps minimise the risk of tearing. i would not of done it any other way and we r planning our next birth to be a water birth also. we had to drive 3hrs to the hospital in order to have the water birth but it was worth it. Danavee was due Jan 7th, but decided to take her sweet time. I was givin an induction date of Jan 14th. When I showed up to be induced at 8 am, I was contracting 5 min apart, but I felt nothing. They decided to let me labor on my own. I was really hoping to get in the tub but I was positive for Strep B so i had to be givin meds four hours before she was born. I waited and waited but I wasn't really progressing. Finally at 3pm I decided to get an epidural, then I slept some. About 4 they came in and I was still only at 5cm so they started pitocen(luckily I already had my epi). Still wasn't doing much so they broke my water, they found a little maconium. At 11pm the babys heartbeat couldn't be found so they were rushing all around me, threw the oxygen mask on me, my husband who was asleep woke up paniced. They stuck the heartmonitor that screws into her head on and she was fine, they checked me and I was fully dialated, so they had me start pushing and paiged the doctor. He was not a hapy doctor cause they woke him up, and I would push you could see her head then she'd slip back in, this went on for like 5-10 min. Then the doctor asked if I wanted her born today or tomorrow. Um, HELLO I cant just stop pushing!! Duh. So he held her head there and she came flying out, which was scary cause of the maconium, but she was fine. I tore pretty bad. But Danavee was well worth it Born Jan 14th 11:42 pm :)

I Had my little girl on 14 january 2010 she come a week early! i had uncomftable pains in my belly but i didnt think anything of it so i went to bed around about 9.30 but by 11.00 i was awake with pains strong enougth for discomfort so i woke my boyfriend up and he was worried about me understandably then by 2.30am the pains were just getting worse so we went to the hospital we got there and i got checked over and got told i was 2cm dilated i was shocked and scared with it being my first i just didnt no what was going to happen.

My contractions were coming between 10-15 mins apart and got given paracetamol and cocodemol or watever it is and done nothing so when it come to the shift change i got another woman and she come in and asked if id had any contractions and because id not had a contraction with in 30mins she said i obviously wasnt in labour and she wasnt going to check if i was dilating coz it would be a waste of time and sent me home!!

obviously i was disgusted i new i was in labour so i got home for about 10am then the contractions were getting really bad i couldnt get comftable my boyfriend ran me a bath and i got in but it made them worse so i got out and about an hour after that i just had this big urge to push so i went back into hospital and i was fully dilated i was shocked i was given some gas and air but i didnt really use it i was scared but exxited it took me an hour to push my little princess out and she was born at 16.36 weighing 6lb 1 i had to get stitched but My chloe was worth all my 19 hours of labour it was the best day of my life :) x

I didn't find out I was pregnant with Alyssa till I was 32 weeks (crazy) her due date was April 14 but I ended up having her May 1 2007. I was having, what I thought were BH, all day. I wasn't in pain but I could feel my stomach tighten ever few minutes so I didn't think to much about it. At around 830 pm my husband decided to take me to the hospital to get checked out and I begged him to take me home because I didn't want to sit around a hospital all night.. Thankfully he didn't because when we got there I was already dilated to 8 and at 10:02 pm she was born!
Eliza was due on Feb 3 2010 but we decided since the hospital was over an 1hour away and how my first one went, the doctor would induce me. So we went to the hospital on Jan 25 and they broke my water and started me on poticen at 9am.. I didn't start feeling anything until around 3:30 pm. And at 9:03 on Jan 25 2010 she was born!
Both of my labors were different but they were both great and cannot wait until I get pregnant again!

i had my second baby on january 17th 2010

the maternity ward had been recently moved in october 2009 to a hospital 24 miles away fro where i lived and only pregnancy scans were available where i lived i felt small leaks at 3am on 17th and thought my waters had broken (was induced due to pre eclapmsia with 1st so didnt know what waters breaking normally felt like) so my sister in law and her partner and my partner of corse drove to the hospital only to find my waters hadnt broken but i knew i was in labour they didnt believe me and they told me to go home as in 24 miles away and get a scan the next day at 6.50am luckily my parents live in the town the new maternity ward hospital is in and they were already looking after my eldest daughter so i asked my dad to pick me up he arrived and took me to there house i kept telling them to ring the hospital for the hospital to let me come in they kept saying no i was in alot of pain and at 8.30 i told my dad to take me in no matter what they said at 9am just as i stepped out the car my waters broke and i was wheeled in and had no pain relief whatsoever and my beautiful baby was born at 9.36am weighing 6.1 1/2lb
i couldnt believe that they tried to send me home i would of had her in a layby if i had gone home

My daughter was due 15th January 2010, Friday the 1st of January I was admitted to hospital with Pre-Eclemsia, dr thought baby was going to be TOO BIG sent for ultrasound and results were very low amniotic fluid, was released on Tuesday the 5th of January and was told that if bub didnt come buy wednesday the 13th I would be induced due to the multiple reasons. Tuesday afternoon went for a walk as advised by drs and midwives, Tuesday night 7.30pm started contractions some at 5mins appart some 10-15mins. Contractions continued through the night all day and night wednesday - wednesday i had a normal antenatal check where the midwife was very happy with everything and said to continue riding the wave at home where i would be most confortable. By 9am Thursday morning they were consistantly every 5 mins and pain was too uncomfortable, I live in Nambucca and the local hospital is 10 mins away in Macksville, (they dont do complicated births) my fiance went to work as normal on Thursday (he works 35mins north from home) at 11am he was told to get to the hosp, was then transfered to coff hosp where i was only 2cms, they gave me some morphine to help me sleep that night - Friday morning at 9.05am they broke my waters and at 11am tried an epidural after one hour of trying no success, then petocin and morphine on tap - several microsleeps later, bubs heart rate dropping and my BP rising decission was made for an emergency c-section via full anesthetic.
Most traumatic event of my life, but most worth it. I still get back pain later and my daughter is now 6mths old.
She was born completely healthy no complications,
8th January 2010 8:25pm 6lb 15oz. - and they thought she was big

Mackenzie was due January 23rd of this year but didn't come until the 29th. I went to the hospital the 1st time that Tuesday (26th) but after staying overnight, it wasn't time. So, I sit around all day Tuesday and Wednesday and Wednesday night brings contractions strong enough to wake me up. I labored at home all Wednesday night and Thursday morning/afternoon. We (me, fiance, and doula) finally went the hospital at 4pm and I labored all night with terrible back labor (Mac was sunny side-up and sitting on my scoliosis-inflicted spine). Anyway, after almost 30 hours of natural labor, I had my beautiful baby girl. Unfortunately, I had to get stitches for the 3rd-degree tear that I sustained but she was and definitely is worth every minute of it!

MY LABOR WAS TOO PAINFUL I DON'T WANNA REMEMBER. I WAS LEFT WITH A BAD BACK ACHE, UNTIL NOW I CANNOT DO STRAINOUS WORK. THANK GOD MY BEAUTIFUL GIRL CAME OUT OF THE WHOLE PROCESS. IT WAS WORTH IT.

ashley was due July 3 and born June 3rd. I was going to the doctors that morning and she was going to do the first vag exam to see if im dilated yet. When she checked she looked at me and was like what are you doing here, you should be at the hospital, you are just about 5 cm dilated.... being my first i started to cry... (nervous)... I didnt even know that i was in labor, no pain.. nothing... got to the hospital and in less then 5 hours i was 10 cm, and did 2 big pushes and had my baby girl...
With due Feb 1st, born Jan 16. for about 2 weeks i was having bad bh, and was dilated at 3, and then went in for a check up on the 16th and was told that i was 4 1/2, to go home and hopefully anytime soon... sure enough got home and there was little blood in mucous so i went to the hospital, got there and i was 5 cm, less then 5 hours i was 10 cm and once again 2 big pushes and my little man was out...

I would always joke with my partner as his first child prior to our relationship was born in less than an hour from start to finish so when we fell pregnant I would always say not to worry as the women in my family have long labours.......boy was I right! I started at 1am on Wednesday the 20th of January and my son was born by emergency c section at 2:42pm on Friday the 22nd of January! Yep 62hrs - 20 of those were back to back contractions!!! but would do it all again :)

honestly it was extremely painful but i could handle it. i just concentrated on my breathing i used gas and air 4 ages but it made me so sick and i then got the epidural...

my son was planned to be induced on the 4th of January 2010 because i am a type 1 diabetic at the royal womans we waited around for 10 hours for a room they then went to start me off with the cream and told me i had already started by myself i was 3 cm dialated, so sent me to a ward hoping that my waters would break on there own.

At 6am the next morning they woke me saying a lobour room was ready they broke my waters so the contractions came hard and fast, i had a epidural and about 11 hours later my beautiful ten pound five boy was born natural.

I tore and was also cut to get Thomas's shoulders out because he got stuck, he was a huge baby born but now he is a long skinny very healthy happy young man and is 6 months today

i got 2 child my lil girl was due 31st jan but came 22nd jan. id bn having pains all day n luckily i was seeing my midwife that day n she said i was contracting. at 6.30pm i had my show n went up the hospitel 9.22pm my waters broke n 9.28pm se arrived everything went ok. my oldest was a 2 hour labour

My baby was due on 26th Jan 2010 he was born on the 19th. I had 3 contraction a hour a part the they went to 20min apart for about 2hour then was 10min after that. I was in labour for 55hour and over 30 hour i was being induce to make my contractions faster as my body went into shock as i had not been able to keep any food down for 3days before i went into labour biut had sickness all way though and spd. when he was delivered my contractons was 10min apart so the ring of fire was a ver long painfull time.

god i was blessed but have had only had one, londyn now 5 months i had a good labor but i think it was cos i had pictured the worst i didnt go to the classes so i didnt realise i was in labor just had a bit of back pain which i put down to doing to much lucky for me i went to my parents for coffee to let my partner sleep when my step mum timed the pains . i drove my self about an hr to the hospital as i thought it was just those braxton hick so didnt bring any thing with as so as i got on the bed for them to examon me my waters broke i had that bactria so i had the med but my labor was 12hrs they had trouble finding a heart breat but placed the wire on her head inside but the docs had too slow down my labor as i was progressing to fast i went from 1 1/2 to 5 than a around 5 to 8 when it wore off my partner when and got some breaky and came back and they had me in prosion with all the stuff in the room as when they checked i had gone to 12 cm i had an eppadural (spelling) but they let it wear off so i could feel when to push. i think i was blessed.. as my friends had really long labor one went for 4 day the poor thing.

Water birth is supposedly amazing... we are planning to try that next time. I got out of the tub instead of staying in for birth of my last one, but the water is amazing and helps so-o-o much. And what is it with back labor? I always have bad back labor... I like the actual crowning & just afterward!

Congratulations on your babies & your impending one!!

My husband & I waited to have sex too until after marriage... but the first month we got pregnant.
Our first daughter, Christina, was born Oct. 3, 2003 (she was due the 13th of Oct) but we went to the hospital because I didn't know what Braxton Hicks contractions were and the Dr induced labor by breaking the bag of waters. Labor was 2 hrs 53 minutes and I pushed for about 10-15 minutes. No drugs of any kind (they tried to induce with pitocin, but my body reacts the wrong way to lots of things - I've even allergic to latex - so I pulled it out - it was making me puke! - and the Dr said for them not to put it back).
Our 2nd was due Sept 7 but born Oct 12, 2005. She was born at home - planned home delivery. We had a direct entry midwife. But, I woke up at 11PM (oct 11) and thought I was just having more Braxton Hicks so I took a hot bath. It wasn't the BH! My parents were staying with us so I went to the living room (they were watching a movie) and said, "I think the baby's coming" - my mom (she had 7, all natural) shrieked "get back to bed, you're in labor!" My Dad went to the garage lol! We called the midwife (she lived an hour away) and she was on her way... it was now just after midnight. My mom & mother-in-law caught Lori, who was born in the veil (bag of waters didn't break) thirty minutes before the midwife got there! She was the first baby in the 1000+ the midwife had cared for that she missed the delivery of (a 9 year record)! My sister videoed us just after the birth and I was saying "this was so easy!" We decided that was the way to go. :) Of course, I was trying not to have the baby without the midwife, so I did NO pushing at all until her head was out lol.
Our 3rd was another planned homebirth with the same midwife attending. Kimberly was due Sept 12, but born Sept 24, 2007. My mom (parents had moved to GA) was down visiting and had hoped to see the birth but was going back on the train the next day. When I got up I told my husband the baby would come today, he laughed. I pushed with the BH contractions trying to get labor to start. After about an hour, the bag of waters broke and real contractions started - Labor! Labor lasted almost 3 hours this time and pushing was longer because I had to stop pushing after she crowned because the cord was wrapped around her neck, the midwife unwrapped it and we continued. So I pushed for about 10 minutes hard, 7 slowly, then about 3 to get her sholders delivered.
And our 4th was another planned homebirth with the same midwife. I had started with fraternal twins, but around the 18th week we lost one :( but my body didn't expel it, instead it "absorbed" it (turned it into a huge mass of hard bloody tissue, which I "delivered" thinking it was the afterbirth... yuck). Anyways, she was due Dec. 24, 2009, but was born Jan 7, 2010 after about 2 hours of labor with about 15-18 minutes of pushing.

Anyways, just love to share. And we may be nuts, but as long as we can take care of them & don't need to ask for help, we don't plan on doing anything unnatural to prevent more. :P

I didnt realize someone else had just posted this. sorry :( but oh well... i wanted to add:

I had had multiple membrane sweeps from 37 weeks on to no avail. I had horrible back labor with both babies. However the jacuzzi was a life saver with my second. I loved it and think I may do a water birth next time :)
