Hi, I believe the way that they work it out is from the date of the first day of your last period. Does that help you?

Sometimes it's more accurate to get the age of the baby from the early ultrasounds. I understand the confusion completely, with my first term pregnancy I had a very similar situation. Going from my last period the due date they had given me was the 23rd of May and all throughout the pregnancy my fundal height was constantly +2 but the providers hadn't bothered to take fetal dating measurements. I switched providers in my ninth month (hubby was deployed to Iraq and I didn't want to be alone). The obstetrician examined the ultrasounds on the 28th of May and discovered that my baby had actually been due May 5th. I was induced immediately, but you can imagine the discomort of being 3 weeks post dates. (Even at that time I had no dilation and no effacement). Long story short, it's a very, very good thing that they're dating your baby's development via ultrasound...good luck to you again :-)

PS my next two term pregnancies were dated accurately because i'd learned to be really pushy with the first one lol

Why do they give u a 12 week dating scan if they go from your last period! theyve confused me lol.the date they used from the dating scan was not fron the 1st day after my period it was from over a wk after.i wasnt confused with my 1st.not sure y i am this time! wld it be because they got my fetal age from my scan and added 14 days on to make it my gestational age, which usualy would be the 1st day of my period but because my clcle is irregular i ovulated and conceived later than a woman with a normal cycle?

Here's the thing...there is a gestational age and a fetal age. The baby's gestational age is based on the first day of your last menstrual cycle while the baby's fetal age is an estimate of the day of conception (the general rule of thumb is 2 weeks assuming that you have a normal 28 day cycle). The 40 week pregnancy is based on the gestational age, so your baby will be born (if the little one comes on time) at a 38 week fetal age. Hope that clears things up :-)

Hi - my due date is Jan 5 - I am 18weeks 4 days today - doctor offices usually go by the last day of your last menstrual period. And remember due dates are just an estimed - the baby will come whenever it's ready :)
