My mirena experience was a nightmare . i think i fell into a small percentage of women that cannot use this product.

i had mine inserted on 03/15/2010 and removed 06/25/2010 during that whole time i never stopped bleeding heavily , and passing blood clots. i was in constant pain like a period , with occasional sharp pinching pain from getting up from a sitting position . i had 2 episodes of cervicitis , 2 yeast infections and was diagnosed with PID after i went to the hospital delirious , with a temp of 103.5 on 06/23/2010 .

i had my iud checked 6 times since it was placed , manually and via ultrasound all said that it was placed just fine. also would like to note that i had terrible cystic acne while i was on it. oh and i still have chronic pain in my pelvis but i think that is from the PID.

im not saying that my story is typical but had i known more about the risks i would have never gotten it placed . my doctor made it seem like it was completely safe , and trying to beg them to have it removed was a nightmare.

I got the paragard iud about 6 weeks ago b/c I didn't want hormones, and I have to say I love it so far. I only spotted about 4 days after getting it. I know that when I was talking to my dr about iuds, she told me that mirena was more like depo shot hormone wise and for me that was no good, since when I was on depo before I had my january 2010 baby I was on depo and gained 50 lbs. she also said that with mirena, bleeding is irregular, as with the shot.

Yea, mine fell out, two months later!!! Then saw a Dr, and she said that we insert mirena's too early after birth. Our bodies at 6 weeks are still full of all the hormones from the pregnancy as well as if you are breastfeeding. So she recommends condoms, until you done breast feeding, and your monthly period is back to normal. Once your hormones are back together, she says the side effects, and body rejecting the Mirena is less common. Same goes for the implanon, I had that too... non stop period!

i bleed on and off then had two months of nothing which i felt pregnat too. i started my period last sat and am still bleeding. i think it has the hormones that make your body think your pregnat. if your still concerned i would get a check up.

yes, i had my baby in january and had the mirena put in at my 6 week appt. i bled for about 5 weeks light, but enough to need to use a tampon. it hurt like none other when they put it in! it was horrrible. but now its great. bleeding stopped and no more since then, i love it. That is, until lately when my man says he can feel it and now it has been bothering me a lot. I asked doc and they said i should probably get it checked out. So other than those problems, i have loved it! No period is really nice.

I have had a Mirena IUD since my baby was delivered (Jan2010). At first my cycle was non stop for the 1st 2 months. It would be heavy one minute and light the next, just to be back heavy. It was an on going thing. The next month to follow i was fine, it was just spotting then. I have notice some extreme weight gain (i refuse to blame it on baby weight,,lol). I have notice that i am sometime dizzy or lighthead. Sometimes i have an appetite and at other times i don't. I sometime have pregnancy symptoms as well that gets me worried. My nurse made me an appointment for my OB 2 check my string. So your not by yourself, always consult your OB or whoever your doctor is when in doubt. :)

I had a lot of bleeding the 1st month so I went back to my dr and she gave me a low dose birth control to stop it and now I havent had a period since and I have mine put in march after my january baby. Now no period and not on the birth control now

I have had mine since march. I don't like the fact that I cannot tell when my period is going to come if it ever does. Pluse I too feel bloated and on and off dizzy. My doctor has checked placement and says it is right where it should be. But she has me going for some ultrasounds just to make sure. I have been on the pill but thanks to my pregnancy found out that because of the increase of estorgen in my body it effects my gallbladder. So the pill was out of the question. Hopefully things will get better soon.

i have had mine for a month now with on and off heavy to light bleeding. thats not bothering me but i hate having sex while i bleed and it will not stop so what to do now??

I had mine put in early March. I immediately started cramping and bleeding. It really did feel like I was on my period and I didn't feel very good for about a week. It took my like two months of bleeding/spotting almost before my body started adjusting to it. I am still not fully adjusted to it yet. My period dropped down to like one day and I think they will be going away soon... I do have to say, I LOVE IT!

I got my IUD in March and I did have some heavy bleeding for about a week or two after that but have had NOTHING since then. While I think it is nice to be period free, I also have a really hard time trusting it. I have always been on the pill where I controlled my birth control so I am just having a hard time getting used to the fact that it is "doing it's job". Especially without a period to prove it! I don't ever have pregnancy symptoms, just some light cramping and maybe a little weight gain too. I hope that will get better with time! :)

OMG me too. I feel like I have been bleeding since it was put in. The worst thing is there is no pre-indication. I can't tell if I am on a period or just bleeding in between. Yes, I was just telling my husband that I feel like I am big as a house(prego). We paid for the IUD via our hsa account ($843.60) so I am reluctant in just throwing it away, but I am getting real close.

i have had it since feb and i never bleed exept spots here and there but yes here recently i have had semptoms of pregnancy too

Yes! i hated the symptoms the first month,... I regretted getting it in and was so sick of bleeding I almost got it out. But after that first month, I quit bleeding and all symptoms went away. Its been 3 months now and I still havent bled. The string is annoying, but thats about it.

I had Mirena put in 8 weeks after my Jan 13th baby and I just stopped bleeding everyday!! I have been spotting on and off for 3 weeks now. Interesting little device.

I had it put in at my 8 week check up and have only had one period since; about a month ago. So I went 3 1/2 months woth no bleeding at all! Sorry yours hasn't been better. :(

I also bleed a lot at frist then soon the bleeding stopped now I just have the same problem! I feel hungry a lot and I've not had a period in a while and I feel like I've put on weight!

Thanks for all the great info!! I talked to my OB and I am taking it out on the 29th even though he says that it should get better soon. (I have had enough...my little guy is 6 months old and I have been bleeding most of that time) I also lost about 30lbs while pregnant and kept it off until the Mirena was inserted.

My OB had me wait until 8 weeks after I had my girls. I did have some cramping in the beginning, but from everyone I talked to that was normal. I have had it since end of Feb and have had no problems. I spotted for the first couple of days but it wasn't anything major. Have you had your follow up sono? It might have moved.

I've had Mirena twice now. The first time was when my 2-year-old was about 9 months old. I had it removed about 3 months after I got it because I had groin pain that just wouldn't go away. Now this time I had it inserted in May by a different doctor. I haven't had a problem this time. I've had some spotting when I should be having my period but I'm also exclusively breast-feeding. I'm enjoying having Mirena this time around and am happy with it since I haven't had any side effects from it.

Yes.i have been bleeding the entire time.i am talking with people and they said that it is not normal and to get it removed or checked out.

I had my mirena put in 4 weeks after my daugther was born. I have tried several other types of birth control (pill, patch, shot) and had similar syptoms with each one. Bleeding bleeding bleeding lol. After taking the shot I bled for 7 months. It has now been about 5 months since I had this inserted and there have been a ,like you, only maybe 2 weeks total (random days) that I have not bled. I have not really had pregnancy symptoms.

I had the Mirena IUd inserted at my 6wk check up. I bled for a couple weeks at first and had cramps about the first week. But it all went away. No problems since. I haven't even had a period.

I had one inserted after my 1st baby and I bled for 6 months and at that point I couldn't take it anymore and had it taken out. Due to the fact that I had to wear a pad everyday for 6 months, I had a lot of irritation and infections. I also put on a lot of weight despite walking for 2 hours for most days then. I didn't do any of that after this pregnancy and I actually am thinner now than before I was pregnant the second time. Go figure.

I've had mine in since March and I've no problems. I have little to no cramps during my monthly and bleeding a lot less. I love it because I dont have to think about taking any pills or getting injections. See your doctor and let him/her know of the problems that you're having because there may be something else going on that you need treatment for. Dont delay.

well after i had it inserted I started bleeding 2 days after that and didn't stop till 6 weeks later. But afterwards everything seems fine, just mood swings got stronger b4 my period

I have had mine inserted since June 2010, I have bleed for all of 2 weeks and they have been so heavy and bad, I have never bleed like that before. I have been experiencing the bad cramps also. My Dr informed me that this may occur for the first couple of months then bleeding will become minimal. I constantly wear panty liners every day as I am unsure when the bleeding will stop completly. The Drs have told me this is normal tho :-)

I had mine placed at the beginning of May. I bled horrifically for the first 6 weeks. Now I spot off and on. Nothing that I can't handle. The doctor said that this is common and can go for 3-6 months potentially. She said that most women who can get through the intial 6 months grow to love it.

I have experienced the same thing. THen I finally stop bleeding and now have regular periods. I was about to go to the doctor and see if I was pregnant.

i the Mirena but i haven't really bled since they put it in....i have spotting every once in a while that may last a day, but as far as bleeding like a period i haven't experienced and really don't hope to....

i got mine put in and i was bleeding for 5 months straight with bad cramps..when i had it in i felt like i got morning sickness a few times i eventually had to have it taken out because i was getting so weak from all the blood i was losing.

i've had mine around the same time and am getting a lot of migrains, stomach cramps and bleedind a lot. The doctor told me that it would last for a bout 4-6months. My sister asked me to check again with my doctor because she said that a lot of women suffer from cancer in the ovaries since the bacteria will be trapped in it for years that it sits there... was wondering if anyone has heard or experienced it before.

I got the copper IUD instead of the mirena (hate hormones being pumped into my body) and at first I HATED it, but I love it now, I can have it taken out at anytime and get pregnant with no concerns for having hormones in my body! If you really don't like the mirena then ask your doctor about the copper. I also hate breakthrough bleeding, which is why my doctor suggested the copper one.

I haven't had one since giving birth, but had one just prior to getting pregnant. I gained 25 lbs in 4 months and didn't really figure out what the problem was until it was too late (the pill never caused any side effects for me). Be careful to have it taken out if you start packing on the pounds. :)

I got mine at my 6 week check up, bleed for about an addtional 2-3 weeks and have been fine since. I occastionally have very mild cramping and sometimes even ovulation cramps, but have only had maybe 2 periods. Other than that I love mine, but they aren't for everyone.

I had one inserted back in March and pretty much bled, nothing heavy by any means but more annoying than anything, thru the beginning-middle of May. Now I have spotted a few times since then but nothing that lasts longer than a day or two. Dr. said this was completely normal and is nothing to worry about. However, I have also had pregnancy symptoms for the last week or so...haven't taken a test yet but am planning on doing that this next week if they don't go away since it is dangerous to be pregnant with an IUD. I had Mirena before and it immediately stopped my periods all together. I got it again after my 6 week check up and I have been spotting ever since. The doctor says this is a common side effect for the first few months with Mirena.

i had one fitted about march time after having my baby in jan. i have been bleeding ever since. i had bad cramps for few days after but i ok now. i am bleeding lighter than before just all the time some days i just spot.

I had mine put in at 5 weeks after my January baby. I had bleeding on and off for about two months.. I HATED never knowing when I needed to bring a pad with me... so I pretty much wore a light day every day.. but now 5 months later I really enjoy it. I have not had any real bleeding since that initial few months. I got my first period (breastfeeding mom here) and it is WAY lilghter than it ever was... I was a heavy bleeder before.. going through pads and tampons ever hour.. but I have not had the need for a tampon at all with this one! I think the cramps might have been worse, but it was worth it!

Hi I did have the Merina IUD inserted but really have not had any bad symptoms except that I get my period every 2 weeks and it seems like it lasts forever!! I had it in before for 5 years and had no problems what so ever and never got my period at all.. hoping it will eventually go away...

hi i had mine put in on the 16th June and have been bleeding since the 18th June with really bad cramps and period pains, i'm concerned so have rung the nurse just waiting for her to ring me back as its been over 2wks now since i started bleeding

I've had mine since March and I had really bad cramps off and on for about a month and a half and they're not near as bad now, I had off and on bleeding but it wasn't consistent, I havn't had any symptoms like pregnancy though, you should see your doctor just in case because that could be very dangerous if you are with the iud in
