Hi:
All three of mine hated tummy time as well- and I am a physical therapist so I knew how important it was, but I still had a hard time doing it with them while they were so upset. I have posted a lot of great articles on tummy time on my site if that would help, www.biddybelly.com

My daughter, born Jan 24th hated being on her tummy at first. I would put her on her tummy time mat twice a day. She would get angry so I would stop. But I kept on it. She eventually learned how to roll from her back to her tummy. When she did that she would get mad cuz she was on her tummy. So I would flip her over. Then she learned how to go from her tummy to her back again and ever since then she has been fine with being on her belly. It takes a bit but you have to keep on them and eventually they will like it.

My son hates tummy time, too. He likes it a little better lately, but no longer than a minute or two. His father walked before he crawled, so, I'm not too worried about it, but still try to get him to like tummy time.

My daughter was born jan. 23 and she hated tummy time at first but then I bought this baby gym it plays music and if you want them to lay on there to practice rolling over they have lights She can roll over on to her stomach and back on her back she is trying to get up on her knees. I think she really like the music though.Good Luck!

Oh, he'll crawl. Trust me on it. My first absolutely hated tummy time, too. Keep trying to do tummy time, let him protest a few seconds, and then stop if he is just miserable. If he's like my first daughter was, he will crawl, but he'll have bigger goals and move on quicker to cruising and walking. IMO tummy time is important, but pushed far too much. They make it out like your child will just die if they don't do tummy time...and it just isn't true. They will be fine. :)

thats so funny cause shawn hates tummy time too,,,lol he was born on the 7th,i try to give him tummy time throughout the day also cause if not they will develope a flat head,,i dont want that to happen,,i usually get on the floor right in front of him and just talk to him and make him laugh he kind of gets sidetracked,,lol good luck chica!

Have you tried laying on your back and having him on his tummy on your chest for a while. We started our son like that as he hated tummy time and we were worried he'd never crawl either. He's 14 weeks 6 days now and can lay on his tummy with his head up but only for a few minutes before getting agitated. I shouldn't worry about it too much though, just try and imagine your baby at a couple of years old. I'm sure he won't be rolling around on the floor still! He'll figure it out one way or another. x

I had the same problem. Mine was born January 12.He hated being on his belly but as mean as it sounds I would leave him to fussing on his belly as long as he was holding his head up and not putting it down into the carpet or bed. He hated being on his belly so much he taught himself to roll over back onto his back. However I didn't let him fuss for more then 3 minutes at a time. That and he loves playing with Daddy and loves the faces Daddy makes at him so I would have my fiance lay him on his belly on his chest and play with him. He was so happy to play with Daddy that by the time he realized he was on his belly he didn't care. He's still not a huge fan but it's getting better with the Daddy belly time.

my daughter (born jan 18) wont do tummy time she just rolls over and before she learned to roll over she would just go to sleep. so im in the same boat.

my daughter was born 9th jan, and she also doesnt like tummy time! i was freaking out because babies younger than her are more tolerant to it, and can hold themselves up quite well. ive been more consistant with it over the past week, and she has really improved! i started by sitting on the couch with my legs crossed, and i would lie her over one knee, facing the tv (she loves the movements and colours). this would keep her distracted and also she wasnt flat on her stomach straight off! i then moved her onto the cot, so i could face her well, and this helped as well. now i have her on the ground, with lots of rattles and squeeky toys so that she is pre occupied! its a big difference already! mind u, shes worked out how to roll onto her back now.. cheeky monkey! lol :P
another thing! she also would scream and scream and would be very hard to settle, so i do it just before feeding time, and so 1. she wouldnt have a full tummy and be sick. 2. i would just feed her and she would be settled like that.

All my babies hated being on their tummy.... my two previous and now my jan 7 son. I must say though that my two previous babies never really were on their tummies and they both learned how to crawl by 6months and they also walked just before their 1st birthday. So I woulodn't worry much. My son just turned 4 months today and I still can't get him on his tummy for more than 30 seconds and I wouldn't force him to stay longer.... one thing that happened with my previous babies is that when they learn how to turn themselves over from back to tummy then that's when they start getting excited about crawling. OMG! My love was born on Jan 11th and I have the same exact problem. She hates tummy time!!! I thought she was never gonna crawl either til actually 2 days ago she rolled over on her tummy and tried to crawl. She now lifts herself and pushes off her feet..Its amazing..Give him time..It will all come together!! : )

my oldest daughter hayden who is 5 now hated tummy time. her little sister who was born jan 13 hates tummy time to. i wouldn't worry about you rbaby no crawling. my oldest started crawling at 5 months and i never put her on her tummy because she cried every single time. if he is a supported sitter i would suggest doing arm exercises to strengthen his arms. what i did was hold my daughter by her arms and move them around while she is on her back on the floor. i also let her tell me when she wanted tummy time. i would lay her on her back on the ground and when she learned to roll from back to belly she started to enjoy being on her tummy. good luck. I am in the same boat as you the second time around. your baby will crawl when he is ready to crawl. :-)

my son was born on the 16th and he will lay on his tummy for a few minutes but then he starts crying too...he loves laying on his back though and he is also a supported sitter...some people have told me its ok that he doesnt like it not all babies do, he may be a bit behind with crawling or he may just go to walking and skip it all together..

My little girl doesn't like tummy time either (born 11th Jan). However as she is the youngest of three, i am trying everything including on her tummy in the pram, and exercises on the gym ball. Also walking with her lying across my harm (head looking out). My eldest bum shuffled and i am now a strong believer it is very important to keep it up. Another suggestion is to massage her tummy on the change table, or just turn her over at every change. Every little bit helps!

my baby was born on Jan.3 and he doesn't really like Tummy Time either, the only time he want's to be on his tummy is when I'm changing him or after his bath I put him on his belly to put lotion on his back and when he is really sleepy I lie him down on my chest and he fall's right to sleep...I wouldn't worry about him falling behind in the crawling, they'll get the hang of it eventually....I think it is Just going to take some more time for our babie's to get used to and like tummy time...I think when my little one can hold his gead up alittle bit better then what he does now and he can see us alittle bit better then I think he'll be Ok with it, Good Luck

My baby hates tummy time too.. she was born on 5th of jan. Just like Angi baby boy she enjoys sitting up and standing but i can't get her to lay on her stomach at all .

Wow! All of these babies born in January and most of them hate tummy time. My son; born the 18th of Jan.; hates tummy time too! He has a umbibical hernia and I think that may be the issue but he is also a nosey parker and has to look around and be up all the time. He seems to be doing fine and I am not worried. I hate being on my back so may be he is the total opposite of me! He has chest time on me and I play airplane (colic hold) but rocking back and forth and he enjoys that! Babies are their own individual so I say whatever works for your baby and yourself!!!

I had the same problem. My little girl was ironically also born on the 15th Jan and for the first few weeks she was really good on her tummy. Strong and happy. But a couple of weeks later she started to do what your child does. We had her checked by an oseteopath who said her thorax and one shoulder were stiff and sore, which they fixed and has helped. But she was also diagnosed with acid reflux and was told by the plunket nurse that babies that have reflux do protest at being on their tummy as it puts pressure on their abdomen. We have since sorted both these problems and now she is much happier when put on her tummy, she still has her moments but in general is alot better than before. I hope this helps you with your child.

My Daughter was born on the 15th of Jan as well. She hated being on her tummy as first but she hated not being held. That was my fault tho I was in and out of the hospital for her first month and really had no where to put her but hold her. She has to know what is going on at all times so she fights sleeping and loves to be standing so she can look around. I just let her fuss for a bit when ever i laid her down for tummy time. Now she seems okay with it and will stay down for long periods of time but instead of trying to roll over she just turns around. So the toy that were in front of her to keep her attention are now at her feet. I had a mat for her and she hated it so I just lay her on a blanket now with her toys i know she likes all around her.

My baby boy was born on the 5th of January. Hates tummy time, but tolerates it sometimes. He has just started rolling over so is keeping me busy because he rolls himself onto his tummy then whinges and cries because he's on his tummy so I'm constantly rolling him back hehe

I have a son born Jan. 6 and a daughter 18mos. They both hate tummy time. My daughter only crawled for a week before cruising at about 11 mos. and walked by the time she was 1. My son hates tummy time just like his sister. I try to sit him up and prop him in the exersaucer. Don't worry they all will grow and crawl or walk in their own time.

My daughter was born January 21 and she has loved belly time since about 5 wks sometimes she just falls asleep but, mostly she laughs and coos. She can lift her chest completely off the floor now and loves to sit in her Bumbo seat. In fact she loves sitting up all the time and will whine and attempt to sit up if you put her in a reclined position.

some babies just don't like tummy time! But I wouldn't fear him NEVER crawling. However, my cousins son tried to go straight to walking around things so it happens. it IS good to teach them to crawl also because it connects the 2 sides of the brain since you move one side of the body and then the other, but don't stress! My daughter isn't fond of the tummy time also!
OH I almost forgot, has anyone told you that the tummy time counts as baby laying on your chest, cradled in your arm on the tummy(colic hold), or laying down on their tummy!?!? My lactition told me that!

Our daughter was born on January 2nd. She's a supported sitter. We are having trouble with tummy time because she LOVES to sleep on her stomach and every time we put her down for tummy time she falls asleep. We only allow her to sleep on her tummy if we are sitting there staring at her, otherwise she is a back sleeper the majority of the time. I think I'm going to try and get a mat that has the support pillow.

my son is easy going and doesn't mind being on his tummy...however he was born 5 1/2 early but was very healthy and came home from the hospital with me .never went to the nicu either...he doesn't sit on his own yet but demands his attention when he wants is laughs and has his own baby lango...lol

Hi my daughter was born January 16 and she hates tummy time also. I bought her a little mat with lots of toys and a mirror it helps for just a few mins then she starts to scream and I have to go pick her up. My little one still can't hold her head up properly even though I am working with her for her to learn.

My little girl was born on Jan 29th, she hated tummy time too up until the last few weeks. The best time for her is when she's had a bath & lays on her tummy naked, she seems to prefer it (but always manages to pee everywhere!! lol). I have bought her a tummy time playmat which supports her chest more so she's not flat to the floor, since having that she prefers it more x

My baby hates tummy time too. My daughter hated it when she was a baby. Wouldn't do it. But she learned to crawl just fine. She crawled at almost 7 months which is pretty normal. So I wouldn't worry. Very few babies like tummy time.

start by just doing tummy time with him lying on your tummy this will still teach him to lift his head and stuff and most o all he can see you

Mine hates tummy time too. She was also born on the 20th and will do nothing but cry nonstop until I roll her over. I think I'm just not gonna force it.

I would let him cry for a few minutes... 5 minutes at a time and give him breaks because my pediatrician told me that she was thinking about sending out a physical therapist because i wasn't doing it enough. But one of my friends who has 4 kids said that the doctors say that to scare you into doing it. I completely agree with her because now after about a week of giving her 5min at a time she is holding up her head and starting to roll over... just do what you can with him and all will work out just fine

My little guy was born Jan 12th. He can tolerate being on his tummy for short periods. I actually find it best when I get down with him and talk to him and play with him while he's laying on his belly. We have a very colorful mat that he lays on throughout parts of the day so I think that has also helped. He gets mad sometimes, but its good for them to get a little mad. That's what encourages them to roll over off their tummy. Hes actually learned to roll over from his tummy to his back.

My son was also born on Jan 15th. He is in the same boat. Loves to stand and be in the exersaucer. We just work with him on tummy time. I let him lay on my lap on his tummy and he enjoys that. Toys as distraction can help also.

My son was born on Jan 23 and he is a supported sitter and he too hates tummy time. Matter of fact....he hates sitting too. All he wants to do is be supported while standing. We put him on his tummy for a few minutes and then we go right back to holding him up. See if your son likes standing.

i had the same problem with my now 2 yr old son (who also suffers multible disabilities) with the help of his physio therapist i now know that even havin bub on your chest works wonders with babies who dont enjoy tummy time on play mats or floor... my son developed plagiocephaly ( flatenin of the head) and had to wear a specially made helmet to try put it back into a somewhat "normal" shape.... my new baby girl born jan 25th didnt like tummy time either so i lay with her on my chest. she now pulls herself up n is even tryin to crawl up my chest it doesnt matter where or how u do it just work with what is best for your baby n your own sanity..

My little girls the same. She was Born Jan 18th. My 2 year old daughter sets in the floor and talks to her while she's on her tummy that kind of helps, I lay in front of her get her attention talk to her.. I can usually get 3..4 minutes when do that. She really likes her Blk Red and White book in front of her when she's on her tummy... Maybe some of these suggestions will help. Good Luck!

OMG my son is exactly the same! he was born January 14th..hesits on his own and even scoots on his back but as soon as he gets on his tummy all he will do is scream...I have no dea why I asked his doctor and she said just keep trying..we have been laying on the floor with him and that helps with the screaming part but he still doesnt do anything lol

My little guy was born January 14th. He's always loved sitting up, standing up and dancing, but, he hates tummy time, too!
Last night actually was the first time he seemes a little happy about it (not for very long, though). I've realized he hates it on his play mat, but, doesn't mind it on our bed. I wouldn't worry about it. He'll enjoy it when he wants to. I lay on my back and bend my legs in the air, and he lays on my lower legs (kinda like an airplane)... he loves that kind of tummy time!
