Not feeling Contractions - But I know their there.

Hello all.

Im 38 weeks pregnant with my first baby boy and I know my body is having contractions but I dont always feel them and when I do get pains I am not sure if they are contractions or just regular pains. Im so worried I wont know when its time to go to the hospital.

Eeveryone keeps telling me contractions feel like period cramps but I dont get pains that feel like that. I get back pains and some sharp pains going through my stomach but nothing that feels like a period cramp.

How do I tell the difference between all these pains?

I went through the same thing, was uncomfortable, pains in back and sides but nothing that felt like cramping(they stopped my contractions early and the doctor said because of the medicine I probably wasn't feeling them even though we'd stopped the meds). Ended up going to the hospital because I couldn't tell if amniotic fluid was leaking or just mucus plug. They examined me and sent me home said not fluid and I was fine. Water broke an hour later(probably from them checking me) and back to the hospital I went, had my baby girl the next morning. I had been having contractions the whole time...you may not be far away!

when i went into labor with my first it didnt feel like period cramps. i felt like i had to poop. everyone is different. some ppl have what they call back labor. if you have any doubt go to the hospital. with my last one i went 3 times in a week because i was having contractions and when i started to dialate the took her almost 3 weeks early because i had to have a repeat csection. if you have any doubts call your doctor or go to the er

I went through the samething with my first pregnancy. I just gave birth to a health baby boy on Jan 10, 2010. As i was about to give birth i didnt feel anything, no contractions just lower back pain. I ended up not getting any medication before or after, but right before i gave birth is when i felt the contractions. I only had to push 3 or 4 times and out came my baby boy. I was very blessed to have a fast labor but yeah through out my pregnancy i didnt feel any pain.

I'm going through the same thing. This is my very first pregnancy and I'm having a hard time figuring out if I'm having contractions or not. I'll be 38wks tomorrow. Due on the 30th of this month.

heres a good tip that my midwife told me. if you have any doubt bout the pains, your not in real labour. bit of a ball buster but i quess theres some truth in there? im 38wks too and i keep thinkin every twinge might be something, its so annoying, if u still having doubts ring ur midwife or labour ward and they will ask u to go in n cheak u out. at least then u will no either if u r or not or starting to?

That sounds like contractions to me! Back pain can be a sign of early labour. Start timing them and they will become closer together and more painful, you should have a direct phone number to call at the hospital, they will tell you when to come in. Good luck!
