I don't think i would really worry about it, my daughter who is now 4 1/2 years old, was holding hers well before my now 10 month old son is. Just a couple of days ago I decided to prop him up as I usually do as I do when i hold his bottle, however i waited a few minutes, and kept the bottle sitting on his belly of course I was still holding it. Behold! a minute after him crying because he knew I wasn't giving in, he grabbed it and started holding it to feed himself. Now he feeds himself, I believe it has been 4 days now, I still insist of sitting with him because I find he doesn't realize he must tip it up higher the more he drinks. He was fine with a sippy cup for a while now, I just had to make sure I filled it to the top so he could actually drink it, or else he would just suck air because, like I said, he is still learning that he must tip it the more he drinks! Anyway, I don't think it is a worry, I agree with a previous comment, it is a security thing with them.. not that i can complain, he never took to a soother, so my feeding him is comfort haha. Good Luck!

Mine isn't holding her bottle yet either. My son was the same way. He actually never held his bottle at all. I took it away and then I was holding the sippy cup at night!! No worries, he's now 4 and is doing just fine!!
In addition to my daughter not holding her bottle, she also refuses to sit on her own. She can do it but finds it very funny to throw herself backwards. I'm not worried either - I'm sure that she will be sitting up by the time she has to go to school!!!

My older one never held her own bottle. She did her own sippy cups, but until I weaned her from a bottle at 12-13 months I held the bottle.

He's being lazy..lol. My son at 5months didn't want to either, but I would just put it in his mouth and let the bottle lay on his chest and when ne noticed that no one was going to do it for him, he had no choice, but to do it...Don't think your baby can't do it bc he can!! he just dont have a reason to do it, bc he knows you or someone else will do it for him.. Let that baby work. smile

My daughter was born on January 16th. She is not holding her bottle on her own either (just once in awhile). She will hold her sippy cup and play with it but will not drink more then a few sips. I am not worried but she will be going to daycare soon so it would really help if she could drink on her own.

Glad to know my LO is not alone--especially since she's only 8 months corrected (for prematurity). I was concerned, especially since she's not crazy about a sippy cup either---she only wants to chew both the sippy and the bottle if I don't hold it.

My son, born on Jan 7, doesn't hold his bottle either. He does a lot of things that are advanced for his age but when it comes to his bottle he will not hold it. At 3 months he wanted to hold his bottle and did so for about a month and then stopped all of a sudden. I am guessing he just doesn't want to. He will hold his sippy cup and drink from it. I wouldn't worry about if I were you, I think they will when they are ready.

My LO doesn't hold his bottle either. He can drink just fine with a sippy and will pull the bottle out of his mouth when he is done, so his coordination is just fine. I guess he just doesn't want to hold it.

My daughter is 10 months old and only has a bedtime bottle that I hold to feed her. She uses a sippy cup during the day and she holds it. When she was using a bottle for every meal I would hold it for her. I dont think a baby should ever have to hold there own bottle and if they are big enough to hold a bottle then they need to be put on a sippy cup.

They are all different. Some grab for the bottle really early on, others will not hold it until you refuse to. They are pretty smart little critters. Why hold it if mom will do it for you. I would't worry too much.

My son is 10 months and has held his own bottle since he was 2 months old. He is very independant and that makes me sad sometimes. Only when he is sick does he want me to feed him. I also babysit kids and one that I was watching was almost a year and refused to hold his bottle but I didn't always have time to stand there and hold it for him so I would roll a blanket beside him after wrapping him up (so he felt held) and then put his bottle on the rolled blanket and wrap it in his so it didn't fall and that worked really well for him. So if you are finding there are times you just need a break from holding it try that.
Enjoy him as a baby though because it doesn't last long, I hope my next one is a baby baby for longer :)

My 10 month old son has been holding his bottle for a month now. His older sister started holding her bottle at 8 months, but his older brother didn't hold his bottle tell he was 11 months. Each kid has been different for me. I wouldn't worry about it.

My daughter has held her bottle before but will not do it most of the time. She likes me holding her bottle while her hands are busy moving around. She can hold her sippy cup but can't lift it up to much to drink it unless I fill up her sippy cup. But then her cup gets too heavy and she can't lift it up either.

My 10 month can hold his bottle but would rather me hold it! I don't mind it so much because sometimes he will do it himself!

Angelique, my little one doesn't hold her bottle either. she comes to me when she wants something to drink and will bring the bottle closer with one hand but then leaves it up to me to let her drink. babies will do stuff when they r ready i think, so i don't push her to do it :-)

he will hold his drinking cup but will not drink out of it either just like s to play with it i think.Yeh he does the same thing he will push the bottle away when he done drinking. I am guessing he just likes to sit on my lap to be be feed makes him feel closer to me and protected for he likes to be nursed to sleep.I am guessing he will do it when he is ready. :)

LOL that is funny cause my daughter pushes her away to- when she is done, she is done. Even if the bottle isnt empty. See, just shows that they are smart but will do things when they r ready lol

Yeah mine doesn't hold it either! He will hold the sippy cup but not really drink from it - I just got a different sippy cup and I think he's more willing to hold that one! The funny thing is that when he is done with his bottle he will push it away LOL
