Looking for suggestions! My son is 5 n a half months old and when he was a day old they changed him to soy formula cuz he kept throwing up the regular. Well hes been on that ever since but has still spit up and the doc keeps telling me its ok as long as he is gaining weight. He is real gassy and extremely fussy lately. A friend told me about a formula that is made for that enfamil or something but my doc seems to think its ok for him to keep spitting up all the time! Am I the only one with this problem? They tried medicine for reflux that didnt help and personally I cant get anything done with a fussy gassy screaming baby. Let alone the fact I change clothes like 5 times a day cuz everytime I put something new on he throws up on it! it happens after every meal alittle at a time until time to eat again n starts all over again

He has a doc appt on Fri and I am going to ask them to change his formula but they already seem to have it in their heads they arent going to do that. Should I change docs? Any suggestions or tips? I cant go anywhere nice cuz I'm always covered in spit up! HELP

I know the feeling! I've changed my kids formula a million times and tried soy and all that shit and he's now on medication and still has thickened feeds with infants friend or some other form of wind drops in it. If he's not on thickened feeds I'd suggest that ASAP.

My son is on Similac Sensitive. It is for babies that have lactose sensitivity. The milk protein is broken down more for easier digestion. It is supposed to help with spitting up and gas. My son's cartilage is not fully developed between his stomach and esophagus which causes acid reflux and other digestive issues. Good Luck! I can't imagine how horrible that must be.

Poor little guy and poor you. I would try a different doctor. I can't think that it's healthy (or tastes good) to be throwing up all of the time. Our daughter was very gassy as well. We buy gas drops and put them in every bottle. It really helps. We get them at Wal-Mart, and we buy the generic. They really seem to work! Hope this helps and your little guy gets better!!

feed him while he is sitting up
burp him at every oz
keep him up right for 30 mins after feeding
warm his bottles
use gerber or nursery mixing water

Your definatly not the only one with the Problem. My Son is almost 6 months and he spits and throws up all the time, My friends daughter spit up and everything till she was much older. I even changed his formula and medicine too but he still does it. The imfamil A+ is a great formula. You would get the thickness its an orange label. See if thats works.

I appriciate all the suggestions! They finally listened to me and changed his formula to Similac Alimentum I started him on it Friday about mid day and its Monday he hasnt spit up one single time! I realize now that if I feel something is best for him then I need to speak up and make it known hes been spitting for almost 6 months and I could have solved the problem months ago and he would have felt better if I would have stood my ground but I'm happy now he is less fussy and no more spitting

Both of my kids have done this. My first gained weight and wasn't in pain so they wouldn't do much for her. HOwever I did switch her formula on my own. You are the mom and if you feel the formula is causing a problem then you should switch. I do not like soy and told my doctor I was putting her on Enfamil Genlte Ease which helped some with the gass and fussiness but not the spitting, she outgrew it at 12 months. My son is in pain and isn't gaining as well so they are sending him to a gastro doctor. I understand the covered in spit up, I am counting down to 12 months praying he outgrows it like his sister. Until then I am stocking up on oxi clean.

Hi Jennifer, I know what you are going through. My daughter is almost 6 months old and she has been spiting up more like throw up I think cause its just so much since she was like weeks old. I told her Dr about it and they said that she just had reflux and they tried every formula on the shelf and nothing helped she was even on meds. My next step was I had taken her to a GI Dr and they did ultrasounds and a test cant remember whats its called but to see if she had pyloric stenosis but she didnt, they say it happens in boys more than girls. So the GI Dr put her on a special formula that only a Dr can get and she wrote a Rx for the WIC to cover it cause its $50 a can its called Elecare it helped a lot, its a hypoallergenic formula cause she is allergic to milk and has severe reflux, she is also on meds for it, she still spit up when getting on this formula but its nothing like the throwing up and the GI Dr also has me putting rice cereal in with her bottle. Anyways there is a bottle and you can only get it at babies r us its like the Dr. Browns bottles but said to be better, it just came to the U.S. in January its called Tommee Tippee for a sensitive tummy and omg it has helped so much. Sorry for writing so much I just thought I could help cause I know what you are going through.

My daughter had the same problem, she spit up all the time, they changed her formula but she hated it, so i just stuck with the enfamil, she also has acid reflux and shes on prevacid for it, which has helped alot, i would talk to your doctor about reflux some more, if he doesnt wanna listen i would get a second opinion, they should be willing it help if you are concerned and he doesnt sound like he really wants to help. About the gas, my daughters pediatrician told me about Mylicon which works great for my daughter. Hope everything works out for you.

My daughter is 6 months now but when I first brought her home she would spit everything up so my friend told me about distilled water to mix the formula in instead of using tap water. As soon as I put her on distill water there was a big difference she didn't spit up half as much. you can get drops to help with gas to I have stuff called "infacol" it works great for my daughter (:

That is what I was telling my sister in law about my sons formula that I am his mother and I know that there is something wrong with it because he shouldnt be spitting up this way regardless if she thinks its okay it isnt okay for me and my son and Yes I am mixing his formula properly when he was younger they kept telling me that some babies just do that and I can understand that He is almost 6 months old though and he eats stage 2 foods which he holds down well except for the fact that he eats a small bottle after and it makes him spit that up too So either way I am changing his formula They are either going to help me or I am going to change doctors (I need a note from doc to get help with his formula on WIC) I've tried it their way now its mommies way Thanks for the suggestions ladies I appriciate it

Since your son is 5 mths old you can switch formula and it doesn't bug them as much. Enfimil does have one for gassy babies, there is also Ovol, it gets rid of gas. It saved my life:)
My first son was on Alsoy by nestle because my doctor told me that he may have a milk allergy cause he spit up formula. He had no problem with it, but I find that when I feed my second formula sometimes he throws it up. I think its cause it's thick.
I'm not saying anything bad about what you are doing, I'm just checking. You are preparing it with the right amount of water/ formula? sometimes that can cause problems.
CHANGE your doc too. If you think that there is something wrong with him and he brushes it off then he isn't the doctor for you. Hope everything works out for you.

Do what you feel is right. I decided to change formulas. I informed the doctor... not the other way around. *I* know what is best for MY son. THough, my doc gives me more freedom than most. Maybe you do need to switch doctors. I started my son on solids when he was 4 months. I didn't hide that from my doctor either. And he trusted that I knew what was best because he was a healthy and happy baby.

You're the mother, not that doctor. If you want to try the new formula, then do it. If it doesn't work out for you, switch back.

I know about the having to change my clothes all the time, not fun at all! I'd change either doctors or formula. I've heard about one through Enfamil that is thicker than normal. I've almost tried that, but opposite of you my LO is happy as can be when he spits up and is gaining weight just fine. If he was miserable though, I would do something about it. Good luck. I know how frustrating the spit up is.

is it possible that your baby has acid reflux? it might help if he drinks smaller portions but more frequently... like instead of feeding him X every 3 hours try feeding him half of X every hour and a half... maybe talk to your doctor about that? If your baby has acid reflux he might need medication. I don't know that much about formula.... I would ask your doctor and if you're not comfortable with the answer - get a 2nd opinion.
