Any ideas for alternatives other than formula when you're starting to ween from breastfeeding?

I'm still breastfeeding my daughter (09/01/09) but want to have her weened before I return to work in a few months but she (and I) hates formula. Any other suggestions?

Babies need breastmilk or formula for 1 year. if you stop breastfeeding, your lil one needs formula to help her grow. I needed to start supplementing formula (1 bottle a day) while my son (born 09/24/09) is at daycare because I'm not producing enough milk. He hated formula at first. I tried a couple different kinds and was stressed cause he hated them all. Then my ped recommended Gerber Good Start and he took to it with no problems! Talk to your pediatrician.

If you want her to take formula you might try mixing it with milk that you pump. I oldest wasn't crazy about formula at first so mixed a bottle with three parts mama's milk and one part formula. I then gradually increased the ratio of formula until eventually it was all formula. Hope that helps.

As long as she's eating and nursing, she'll get plenty of nutrition, but just to give her something else, Gerber's yogurt milk in with the juices on the baby aisle is great. I breastfed my 1st for a year and will do at least that with this one. I weaned the 1st baby just by feeding her more food and giving her that juice, and after 11 months I started giving her a tiny bit of milk just to see how she'd do. Pumping is good, but I could never give my babies a bottle. They wanted to nurse. When they tasted juice, they loved it, but milk was only to come from mama! :)

Pump your own milk.
