My son is 7 months and does the same thing. I try to stay behind him that way when it happens he doesnt fall and hit his head. I am hoping it will get better over time. His doctor said that there I should not be worried if he can't sit byself until he is about 10 months old. Some babies take some time. Expectly the ones that get excited. It is something new.

Your daughter sounds exactly like mine. She can sit unassisted but not for long but shes a great roller. She gets on to her front throws her arms back and kicks her legs so im guessing she trying to learn to crawl but shes no where near crawling yet. I will be happy when she can sit unassisted it will be so much easier to play and stuff :)

Every baby is different. My daughter was on sept. 6 and she is sitting up and crawling. She has been doing it from 5 months. Dont worry. Your baby will do it soon. :)

my daughter wont sit up really. she Can sit while she has her hands in front holdin herself up but then she picks up her hands n boom.....today she stopped rollin around and started pullin herself forward almost crawling. she is my first and i started trustin in wat my mom says....she will do whateva whenever she can. eventually she will sit up and walk and talk right etc. so im not worried

My DS just turned 7 months yesterday and is the exact same place as your DD. He can sit for quite a while, but does topple forward or back after a while, and can't get into a sitting position by himself yet. I don't think there is anything to worry about. :)

Luke doesn't sit up by himself yet. He tries to sit himself up but just doesn't make it. I set him up and he still needs support. Doctor says this is normal and he will do it when he is ready. Luke is almost crawling..he gets on up fours and starts to drag his knees but then just falls down.

my little guy is teh same way. i would start to play with him in a sitting position so he could get used to it. but he'd get excited and kick his legs and fall backwards. just all of a sudden he can sit, i just tried one day for a few seconds and how he's great. but i don't leve him yet because he still can't do it perfectly. and right after he starting doing this he starting creeping everywhere! and will pull his knees up and get into a crawling position. don't worry, every baby does things at a different pace.

My son rolls and crawls but he cant sit unassisted. He can sit there for maybe 10 seconds before falling over. He can pull himself up to stand but cannot sit completely up on his own either. My son will be seven months tomorrow.

i was worried about my lad, he doesn't sit (or seem interested in sitting no matter what i try), he gets too excited and topples when he sees his dad or toys. he crawls a bit, but only backward, he rolls all the time, and can pull himself to stand, then he gets all excited and topples...we've done a bit of signing with him, and he's able to mimic about a dozen signs, though i'm not sure he understands the meaning beyond the basic four or five. tiny people are so funny, always doing their own thing, and we have to deal with it!! ah, to be young again!! :)

I think its normal my baby is 7 months also and still doesnt sit up and has no interest in crawling. She rolls like a champ though lol. I practice with her everyday sitting up and standing so she can gain muscle in her legs. They will do it when they are ready.

My little one will be seven months tomorrow, and she is like yours...rolls and scoots very well, but can't sit up unassisted for more than a few seconds! She is also not crawling yet, though she likes to stick her booty up in the air, and does well holding herself up on her arms. Some babies never crawl! As long as she is healthy and happy, don't worry. ♥

Orla is able to sit unaided but cannot get into sitting position by herself, she is not able to crawl & has made no attempts to try. She is also unable to roll over on purpose but she will when reaching for something but then hates being on her tummy & will cry until I roll her back, I try to encourage her to roll or stay on her tummy but she will not tolorate it for very long. I must admit I don't often put her on her tummy as I know she doesn't but maybe should still do it.

Cayden is the same...he can't get into the sitting position by himself but can sit unassisted briefly until he sees something and falls over...lol. I try to sit behind him with him between my legs to assist until he is better at it. He is almost crawling..more like he belly flops forward if he really wants to get to something. He is very determined...lol All babies develop at thier own pace...

My 7 month old is also not sitting up unassisted. He's a big boy at 21 pounds and 28 inches. He's pretty active so I am not worried. He is trying to crawl, but he does more of a military crawl. Remember, they all reach different milestones at different times. My daughter didn't walk until way after she turned one. She's 14 right now and is a smart and healthy teenager. Maybe your baby is content for the moment. Eventually, when she's ready, she'll be up and about. Then, you'll be trying to catch your breath chasing after her.

Dont worry :) She is just fine. My doctor said that we should expect them to be sitting up until between 7 and 8 months. My daughter does the same thing, but she is getting better. She falls over all the time trying to reach for things.

My son (born Sep 19) it pretty good about sitting. Ending up on his belly or back usually has a bit of intention behind it (like attempting to crawl). It's probably mostly him loving being upright and seeing what's happening, but I try to give as much encouragement as possible. My son got a lot of supervised time sitting on the couch and being supported on the floor before he could spend more than a few minutes sitting up by himself.

For those worrying about yours not doing something yet, while my son seems to jump right into milestones, my daughter took her time to do things. However, if you met her, you would find her to be an average and intelligent little girl. When kids "should" hit milestones is based on averages calculated by people and nature doesn't follow the "rules" of people. A baby does things when they feel ready for those things.

btw, I discovered that peek-a-boo is a good distraction for diaper-change-roll-away-ers. I showed my son how to flip a [baby] blanket up and down in front of him and he loves it. The hard part is worked around kicking legs (his way of showing excitement).

my little girl just turned seven months on the 17th she sits up by herself unaided for hours she has been doing this since she was 5 months, she just started to crawel about a week ago. now she is figuring out that she can up her self up to standing position.

My daughter will be 7 months on the 21st....she sat unassisted very briefly just the other day...however, when I try to sit her in a sitting position, she stiffens up her legs and pushes them on the floor to stand up

my little girl was born 19/09 and has been sitting on her own since she was nearly 5 months but i think that was down to the suggestion of my plunket lady... she said to sit her in a box or clothes basket and push her around like shes in a car and it stenghtens their core muscles. Taytum loved it. so i used a huggies nappy box and used to sit her in it with some toys when we were in the pool or if i was hanging out the washing :)

My daughter can sit on her own pretty well but isn't very interested in rolling. My youngest son rolled over like a champ at 5 1/2 weeks but took a while before he could walk. Each child develops differently. I wouldn't worry about it.

My Son, Carson shares a birthday with your daughter! He was born 5 weeks premature, so seems to be a little behind on milestones. All babies do learn at different paces though, don't worry about your daughter yet. Carson is just starting to be able to sit unassisted & he can only hold it for a few seconds. He rolls over in one direction from his tummy to his back very well, but not the other. He also can't go from his back to his tummy. His favorite form of communication is smiling & growling...so cute!

My guy is the same. Just practice and eventually she will get it. Don't worry, all babies are different and I promise she will be able to sit unassisted by the time she goes to kindergarden. lol

I am going thro exactly the same problem to the T. my lil guys is 7 months today also, and he will not sitt up by himself, rolls like crazy. he will scooch backwards but no intrest in crawling

My little chap will be 7 months on the 28th. He doesn't roll at all and will sit up, but only for very short periods of time. He moves a bit by pushing himself backwards when he is lying down. His favourite position is in his door bouncer, where he will bounce for ages! I'm not unduley concerned, although I would like him to roll as I feel he won't crawl until he can do this.

Babies do everything at their own pace. I started sitting up with him to help him do it by himself and now he does fine. Hes not interest in crawling much either. Hes to busy thing to pull himself up lol.

No worries!! Every baby is different. My boy just turned 7 months (19th) and is not able to sit without assistance. I am not at all worried about it (even though my other daughter was crawling already and walking by 7 1/2 months) Your daughter will get there when she wants to ... and like everyone has said she might even skip over some of the milestones!

My 7 month old can only sit if supported at the moment and she hates tummy time so no sign of crawling either. I try tummy time for a few minutes every day and she is getting better, she can roll quite well. I also use the bumbo seat which I think is a great help for sitting.

Sounds just like my daughter now. She will be 8 months on the 2nd of may and still does not sit up without help. She will sit there for about 5 minutes by her self. After that she'd rather do the army crawl. She doesn't use her knees she uses her arms and not the legs. She also does push up's lol i know it's weird. But all babies are different most of the time babies learn things fast like and some at a slower pace. I have 3 kids so i learned as i go .

My son was born on the 14th and is 7 months and one week. He has been sitting up for over a month now. He shows interest in crawling and he tries, but he can only get his butt up and not his front..lol. he likes to flop on his back and bounce backwards until he can't go anywhere else. He can't get himself in the sitting position but if we sit him up he will sit there for hours and just play. He is also pulling himself up on his crib, and when he gets stood up all he wants to do is jump. Haha! Is anyone else's baby pulling themselves up yet?

Anastasia is in about the same boat. She can sit for a few moments at a time but then either folds herself over or falls to one side or the other. She isn't crawling either and doesn't seem to want to. She rather walk. She is already starting to try and pull herself up, mindy she isn't quite able to do it, but she is trying. For the most part she ends up with her feet in the air instead of her head.
As for getting around, she rolls any where she wants to go. I put her down in the middle of the floor on a blanket and walk away for a moment. When I turn back around she is half way across the room! And the playpen.. Forget it! lol
Ana will be 7 months on the 27, and I'm not really worried about her. She will figure things out in her own time.

Definitely true about the crankiness! Alisha was waking up constantly a few nights ago and I had no idea what was going on! Well about two days ago, I put her in a sitting position and she held it for 15-20 minutes straight with perfect balance. Today I took her for her hour-long infant class and she was sitting unsupported for the majority of it. Was so proud of her! It was almost as if she learned the skill overnight. I definitely think that her resistance to sleep was a sign that she was about to take a big step in her development.

Oooh the cranky is a great sign, sorry but it's true. My son was SOOOOO cranky right before he figured out how to sit up, and crawl, and pull himself up. He was such a brat and refused to nap. I think all that focus on what they are about to learn makes them irritable. The teething would also act to distract her.

hi, thanks everyone for your comments. i know every baby is different but i cant help but wonder when i see babies younger than mine doing so much more. she is cranky lately and not sleeping well because of teething so she might need more time. Shes a fast roller so she gets into plenty of mischief just doing that. lol. I am going to the pediatrician on wednesday this week to talk to him about her teething and what he recommends to help her through this, i am going to bring up her not sitting very well and not crawling and see what he thinks.

Same here, Ramin hates being on his stomach. An while he loves stting he looses balance an falls back or sideways. I also beleive that he will skip crawling all toghther an just start walking. Not to worry every baby develops at there own time.

My little guy is in the same boat, and he turned 7 months yesterday. He was 7 weeks early, but is doing really well for his prematurity. He can't sit up by himself, and if i put him in a sitting position he can stay there for a few minutes and play with toys, but if he gets impatient or wants to do something else he'll fall backwards and start rolling lol. He can't crawl yet either, but loves to roll from his back to his tummy. And when he sits up (assisted) he also straightens his legs and wants to stand up instead of sit. The doctor said crawling isn't considered a milestone anymore because so many babies are skipping it these days! You're little one seems to be in the norm, and i wouldn't worry at all!! Milestones have such varied timelines... the best thing you can do for your little girl is not compare her to other children (not that you are) :) they all accomplish their milestones in their own time! :)

Hello! My son will be 7 months on the 27th. He is still not sitting up on his own yet either, when he does, he gets excited and swings back so hard he hits his head on the floor. But, he is crawling and climbing up on things, and pulling himself up to stand. So I am really actually confused myself too how he can do all the things he's doing already and still not being able to sit up on his own. But, don't worry, it will happen. There is nothing to worry about. It took my daughter longer to do all the things that he's doing now. Each child is different. =] I love watching him discover new things.

i had my daughter sept 6 and she is the very same way she can sit if you are behind her and than slowly move back but it doesnt last long .and she rolls every where. she gets her legs up to craw but noting.so your not the only one

My friends baby was born on 9/1, he also can't sit up on his own and has some trouble staying it the seated position. Her pediatrician and mine both said there was nothing to worry about, some kids just take their time. Try not to worry I am sure your baby is more advanced than some in other areas too.

just back from health visitor. i got a right telling off! appently by dutch standards you should NEVER let your child try to sit unaided at this age, not even for a min or two. she said they have to hit certain milestones first ie first roll from back to belly then back again, then when they figure out to pull their legs up into a sort of crawl position (they dont have to crawl just get into the position) then they can sort of manipulate themselves to one side and tuck a leg under to sit. but she said he is far far too young to put into a sitting position without support. the idea with the feeding cushion she said was ok to do but not for longer than a few minutes at a time. apparently you damage their spine because their muscles arent strong enough to take the strain that it all comes to rest on spine which can lead to problems further on.

hi, my son just turned 7 months and can only sit if he holds his ankles. hates being on his belly, isnt trying to crawl and wont stiffen his legs to stand. im worried big time! he has his appointment at the health visitor today so will hear more then. but what i have started to do to help with sitting is put him in his playpen with the feeding cushion around him. that seems to be helping his confidence as his arms rest on top of the cushion. maybe you should try this as well. will let you know what my health visitor says about it (dutch health visitors seem to be very tough about meeting milestones so bit nervous lol)

Sounds just like my Cady! She'll sit by herself for several minutes - sometimes up to ten minutes at a time - and then she'll reach for something and fall over. She also cannot get to a sitting position by herself yet, although she tries! She does little tummy crunches trying to sit up, I can see her little abs working lol. Don't be worried! Cady desperately wants to crawl but hasn't quite got it figured out yet. I know I'm the same way when I see that everyone else's babies are like running and speaking in sentences already (joking) and I want my daughter to do those things too, but I also want her to stay a baby as long as possible. When they start crawling, there's no turning back. Its on to a lifetime of chasing them all over the place! Hope this helped you feel better! They'll do everything when they're ready.

my son will be 7 months on the 21st and does the same thing, my doc said its not a big deal. i bought him a bumbo chair and he loves it he loves to sit up but cant without me. so the chair is perfect until he can do it on his own :)

My daughter will be 7 months this friday. She hates being on her belly! She has NO interest in crawling... and most of the time when we sit her up... she falls over, to get on her back.
My daughter has been seeing a physiotherapist, for issues concerning her neck and head. But I brought up those concerns with her. And she told me, not to worry. As long as we keep working on it with her. All babies will develope in time. She did however tell me, that if she hasn't been able to accomplish sitting on her own, by 9 months of age. That my daughter will have to be looked at.

My daughter was born 9/7 and yeah she is the same way cant sit up on her own doesn't crawl but she does get up on all fours and throws herself forward... she does however do really well goin backwards.. and she somehow figured out how to grab a hold of things and pull herself up into the standing position.. but i do agree with the others every baby is different...
