Anyone's hair falling out?

I have had the same problem Danielle. From the day my daughter was born. She is now 6.5mths old and it still falls out in bunches. I too have thick hair. I remember with my boys that is did eventually stop though.

My daughter is 6 months old and I have the same problem. I changed shampoos for a while and it help some. Thank goodness I have think hair too or I would be bald.

I've got the same problem and have had for months and babygirl is almost 6months old now. I had actually heard that this can occur after having a baby, so yes it is very normal even though its also terribly annoying. I'm suprised i still have hair considering how much falls out, especially when i wash it. lol
Guess its just another part of becoming a mother :)

My hair fell out a lot before I was pregnant, which was due to a thyroid malfunction. Though losing hair after the baby is born is normal, keep an eye on it. If it really starts to concern you, you may want to talk to your doctor about a thyroid function test.

Oh yes, I feel like a puppy shedding her winter coat. I am forever picking hair off the baby and myself. Its crazy and I can't wait until it stops. I have talked to the doctor though and she said it was normal and just to keep an eye on it. Although I hope it stops soon

It is totally normal. I have two children, a 4 year old boy and a 6 month old girl. It's happened both times and I still have a full head of very healthy hair, was blessed with a LOT of hair anyways lol. During pregnancy our hair doesn't fall out if at all so as already mentioned after birth the hormones normalise (we hope) and we lose our hair. just another one of the joys of pregnancy/parenthood ;D

My hais is falling too! sometimes i feel im going to finish being bold, so maybe I'm going to get a wig ..just in case ..! i know is normal.. and is hormonal.. I lost my period too1 so that means my hormones are getting crazy.. or the miss the little one!

so, yeah they say its normal and it probably is but here is two things that I was told to try and it is working so far especially is you are getting bald spots. It's called heair regrowth. You can get it at walmart the equate brand. The other thing is a vitamin called biotin. It helps with skin hair and nails. I am stillin also taking my prenatal pills as well. Hope this helps

Like the previous posts say my dear it is just another lovely part of post pregnanvy normalcy haha! Keep an eye on the hair fall though and if you are very distressed by it or it's falling in clumps and creating patches or complete bald spots definitely ask your gp for a referral to a trichologist or specialist who can help. I did find that mixing some pure essential rosemary oil and olive oil together and letting it sit (under a showercap of course) through a day or overnight did seem to help strengthen my hair (my husband was not impressed with the smell...sorta like a roast lol) but my hair felt soft bouncy and shiny afterwards an though it still fell a bit it was nowhere near as bad. My hair still isn't back to normal and my son is 6months but it will probably take about the year mark to get almost all of your "parts" (body hair skin nails - I still cant eat certain foods anymore that I once loved!) back to feeling more yourself -sigh-the joys of motherhood..oh well they are absolutely worth every bit!

My hair started falling out two months ago and my baby is almost 6months now. Its worse when I wash my hair. I asked my doctor and she said it keeps falling out for about 6 months she also said that its nothing to worry about. :)

OMG yes mine is falling out by the hand fulls too :( I went to a hairdresser and while I was their they said that when your body experiences something as stressful as labour and pregnancy it takes it's toll on your hair as you body is taking the nutrients your hair would normally get. When I went to the doctors for my sons 6 month check up she said that it was all normally and your hair will continue to fall out until you stop breastfeeding as you are giving you baby all of you nutrients and unfortunately you hair suffers she said not to worry about it but I still do. i am a hairdresser... ur hair starts to fall out around 4 months because that is when ur hormones start to change back to normal. and throughout your pregnancy you grew more hair then u had, so u are loosing that. and if you are not washing ur hair everyday the hair that would normally fall out is getting stuck so when u wash it it seems like alot is coming out. as long as your not getting a bald spot you should be fine. it will stop by sometimes a year. mine lasted 2 months. also u are not taking the prenatal vitamins that was helping your hair grow. take some hair skin and nail vitamin and that will help.

Oh my! I'm so glad I'm not the only one.. I was really concerned about this! I actually have very thick hair so when my baby was 2 mos I went and got a haircut plus thinned it out.. wow I freaked out when she turned 3 1/2 mos and my hair started to fall out I cried b/c I thought I was going to loose all my hair. I talked to my Dr. and she told me that it was normal and it was due to my hormones getting back to normal. My hair is still falling out but not as much.I tried eating healthier and taking my vitamins I even switched hair products. I don't know if it's not falling as much b/c of my hormones going back to normal or b/c of the changes.

It has been about 3 months for me and sometimes I feel I will go bald....but I know that it will last for a little longer .....it happened the same way with my first...and than I started growing toonnnnssss of baby hairs on my head ....:) NO WORRIES, keep taking your vitamins and it will go away :)

Mine is falling out to, but mine started from the time that I had my little boy. It also happen with my first one, so I was not to worried about it, I was told that it would happen after I had a baby. My son is 6 months old and it is still falling out real bad.

I recommend you ride it out by going and getting yourself a fabulous haircut. Don't worry too much it is normal. . . If you start having bald patches. . . then i'd consult a doc, however it won't come to that. I have 3 kids, it was never more than an inconveniance at best. . . more vaccuming getting partner to pull hair from my fingers when oiling the baby. . . finding my hairs in her pamper, that kinda stuff.

Yes, mine started around 3 months when I had to stop breastfeeding. I luckily have a lot of hair, but have a patch of hair that is now growing back in is only an inch. i look like a little boy with a spike. LOL! So I try to comb it over. the hair loss seems to back to my normal hair in the brush.

my baby is 5.5months and my hair has been falling out since she was 1month, i have also been told that the contraceptive i am taking causes hair to fall out, it is very annoying as i am always picking hair off my baby, hopefully it will stop soon, i fear i wil become bald if it carries on like this!

I have got my hair falling out also. I have spoken to the Dr and my hairdresser. Both say its normal. I went and got it colored and it also, lasts a day then BAM, colour is GONE! So now, I feel all gross, I cant get it dyed or Straightened. I cant wait for it to be NORMAL again!



I also have an underactive Thyriod which doesnt help my cause at all :(

My daughter is 6 months old and mines still falling out. Its driving me nuts... But if it keeps up ask for a thyroid test, if its underactive like mine, that can cause it too

You can take Biotin 5000 MCG daily and that helps with normal hair growth and nails. Plus your pre-natals you can still take after the birth of your baby & they help too.

YES!!!!!!. globs of it! It started around 4 months and does not seem to be slowing down. I read someplace that when you are pregnant, your hair becomes so much thicker and when you start to lose it post partum, it is your hair returning to its normal consistency. I have confirmed this with my hair dresser LOL

My hair is falling out as well and has been for what seems like forever. I didn't know it was due to being pregnant until I got my hair cut back in December. She told me it was due to my hormones and I've heard it takes a while for it to stop. I also read online that if it's over so many strands of hair that you should talk to your doctor. I know it's driving me crazy and I will be forever thankful for it to stop!

**VERY IMPORTANT** In 2006 I had my 2nd child and around 3mths my hair started to fall out. I was very concerned b/c w/my 1st child that did NOT happen. It did not stop till my daughter was 8mths and by that time I was already 2mths pregnant. When my 3rd daughter was born my hair started falling out again around 3mths which is normal after a pregnancy for some women BUT my hair was falling out in hand fulls every time I took a shower. I finally went to the dermatologist and they took a biopsy of my scalp and they discovered that I was suffering from two kinds of hair loss

1: from the pregnancy

2: the kind that is hereditary and will NOT grow back on its own.

I tell everyone now to get your hair loss checked out b/c if I had gone sooner to the dermatologist then I would have not lost as much hair as I did. I have to use Rogaine for the rest of my life or get a hair transplant to recover the hair that was lost.

Yes! And I have really long hair, so it's everywhere!! I heard it was normal too, but now I'm getting worried because it's really falling out a lot in the front, and I'm getting a bald spot :-/

Yes, Natalie, you are the barer of bad news LOL, I think I will loose it if my hair continues to fall out for anohter 6 months LOL *sighs* I am on the way to the hair dresser this AM to get my ends trimmed, hopefully it'll look better! I'm glad i'm not the only one with this problem though :)

Yes! what is that all about. I felt like a cat just shedding all over the place. It has slowed up but it was very distressing. Our body is trying to readjust to prepregnancy hormanal levels.

yeah my hair falls out too it can be stress related or it can be your body just tryng to rebalance the hormones in your body.

nothing to be worried about.

Ive commented on a post like this before. I'm a licensed hair stylist and a mom with the same condition. It is called postpartum alopecia. It is just what some moms go through after having a baby. It happens when your hormones are re balancing. There really is no cure for it other than styling your hair to give it more volume. I hate being the barer of bad news but this is something that can last up to a year after having your little bundle of joy! Trust me its not the end of the world there are solutions!

My son is 5 and a half months and my hair literally just started falling out, ALOT! My doc and the hair dresser said it was a little later than normal but not to worry. I think its because Im not breastfeeding as much tho...

YES.... it's everywhere, my bubs is always covered in it and its driving me crazy. Iv'e just started using a leave in strengthening conditioner, i'll post how it goes!

Mine is still falling out too. Mine started about 3 months too and my baby is now 5.5 months and mine is still falling out too. I have thin hair so I can't afford to lose to much. I actually just went and got it trimmed and then layered hoping that maybe it would make it a bit healthier. I think you should talk to your doc again. I read that theres medicine the doc can prescribe.
