Baby Name Dilemma

Even though we're not pregnant yet with our 2nd, if we have a girl, we'll have a HUGE debate. The girl's middle name has to be Lee and all the baby names for the first name I liked do not go with it. For example: Elli, Leah, Leslie. It just sounds silly together. I kind of like Emma Lee but it feels like I'm settling and I also like Harper Lee but I know someone who named her daughter Harper and I also learned that Harper Lee wrote "To Kill A Mockingbird" and I don't want people to think I'm naming her after that. I like Amelia too but that's going to be my brother's daughter's middle name. I can't win! Any ideas for names that go with Lee?? I'm stumped. I know it'll just keep bothering me so I thought I'd ask.

Plus, I really wanted a girl for our first(wouldn't change it for the world now) and, because we had the boy name picked out but not the girl name at the ultrasound, everyone says we jinxed ourselves. I know that sounds totally silly so you don't have to tell me but the name for a girl keeps nagging me. :-)

I WANT to make my husband happy because it'd be HIS daughter too and I actually like the name Lee. It's just hard to find a first name I like to go with it.

Why does your daughter's middle name HAVE to be Lee? She's your daughter. Name her what you want.

Erin is my sister's name. Raina is also nice because it is short for Lorraina or Lorraine which is my mom's middle name.

Mackenzie Lee, Madison Lee, Megan Lee, Taryn Lee, ...I think you should pick a name that doesn't have an L in it. I don't know why, that's just what I think. My daughters name are Erika Jean and Olivia Danielle

I don't think people will shorten it as long as you emphasize that you do not want it shortened. My brother's name is Dylan and my mom would tell everyone that is was Dylan and not Dyl. No one ever shortened it!

What about "Anna Lee"? I think Liam and Anna sound nice together! Amelia is also very nice. My family have used the same names and there are no hard feelings!

I'd go w/Amelia. My son and his oldest cousin share middle names. My husband is named Kendall which could easily be shortened and he has NEVER done so. Shortening it is strictly up to the child! They tend to find ways to tweak their names regardless of our views! She may LOVE Amy? My brother, Robert, has gone by Robbie, Bobby, Bob, and now goes by Bo? Always changing!

On a side note, I just found out that Mia and Lia are other nicknames besides Amy which I think are cute. :-)

Oh, and my husband thinks Amelia Lee sounds cute.

I've only known a handful of people that waited until their baby was born to pick their names. On the flip side, I'm the only person I know of that's had the name picked before the ultrasound. My son's name definitley fits him though. To each her own. :-)

I really think I like Amelia Lee. I actually mentioned it to my brother and his wife and they were quick to say I could use Amelia. We still don't know what they're naming their baby that's due in June but they were playing with the idea of Amelia for their baby's middle name since it's her Grandma's name. They way they were so quick to say it's okay, I'm thinking they're not going to use Amelia and, in the past, my brother mentioned he didn't really like that name anyway.

I'm also thinking about how it would sound with our son's name. Does Liam and Amelia sound good together?

My only real concern is people shortening Amelia to Amy. I love Amelia but not Amy. It kind of ruins it for me like shortening Michael to Mike. Do you think people will automatically shorten it?

I think Harper Lee is great, but Im biased, my daughters first middle name is Harper after Harper Lee, and my dogs name is Scout (after the main character) There are worse books your daughter could be associated with! I think Harper is such a cute name, it would be a shame to pass up that name because of a book :) The only reason we didnt name my daughter Harper is because of our last name, we didnt like Harper Hudeck.

Go with Amelia - I have a cousin with the same first name as me and another with the same middle name. Plus, since I started having kids last my favorite names were already taken when I got pregnant with my daughter and we just chose a name that we thought suited her when she was born and now she has a very similar first name to her cousin. I say you talk to your brother and find out if he would be uncomfortable with you naming her Amelia - it's just a middle name for his daughter so I don't think that's wrong at all. In some families you'll end up with more than one kid being named after the same Grandparent.

I've never heard of picking the name before the ultrasound, I've always heard to wait until you see them for the first time after they are born and see which name they remind you of.

I like to look up the meanings/origins once I've thought of something I like. Might also be an idea to google your chosen name too, to see what other persons with the name have been up to :) Some ideas I like with Lee (which means Meadow or Wood in English, Healer in Celtic and Poetic in Irish) are:
Amber (Fierce in Gaelic or is the Jewel made from a yellowish resin), Aroha (Aroha means Love in Maori from New Zealand pronounced similar to Aloha), Awhina Lee (Awhina means Love/Care in Maori .. wh pronounced like f or ph so A-fee-na), Rosa (Rose in Italian/Portugese, Noted Protector in German), Sara (Princess in Hebrew/Spanish..although Sara Lee makes frozen desserts here in NZ don't know if thats an international thing..but they are good desserts :p mmm now I'm hungry perhaps Zara as an alternative)
And just for a laugh...
Love, Tota, Happy, Amazon, Mary, Funny, Fabulous...the list goes on :) Good Luck!!!!

What about Amanda Lee? That is my name actually.
I do like Emma, but when you say Emma Lee, it sounds like Emily. Ava Lee is a great name though or what about Ellenor Lee?

Does anyone have names that are similar in style to Emma, Amelia, Ava, and Sophia? I'm also trying to stay away from names that start with L because my son's name is Liam. I have close family that named all their kids names that started with R and I don't want it to look like we're following the same trend. Too bad my favorite girl name was Lea but it not only starts with an L but it totally sounds silly to say Lea Lee.

I know you want the middle name to sound good with the first and I do too when picking baby names. Just remember that it's more important what the first and last name sound good together as that is what most people will know her by. If you say the name "Amelia Lee Hood" or "Amelia Hood", it doesn't sound bad to me. My daughters name is Amelia though, so I might be a bit biased.

You seem to like more unique names, so how about:
Bronwyn Lee
Shannon Lee
Theresa Lee
Lorna Lee
Siobhan Lee (pronounced Shivonne)
Rebecca Lee
Mackenzie Lee (or Mackenna)
Jessica Lee
I think if you avoid names that have an 'L' in the last syllable, anything will be fine.

Lee is a pretty popular middle name, but I see how it could be hard to find a first name to go with it. I guess it also plans on when you choose to have your next child. You could go with something like Autumn Lee. Maybe that sounds a bit too much like Autumn leaf...! Or April Lee. Katherine is nice. We are thinking of using that as a middle name for Lily. I know Lily doesn't go with Lee! What about Rebecca? I know these are not all that "unique", but they certainly aren't very popular names. Best of luck with whatever you guys decide on.

Hi Adrienne, what about something like Elisa Lee, or Clea Lee or Isla Lee? What about Sophia spelt with an f? Sofia Lee. They're pretty unique I think. My friend's daughter's name is Shyla which I think is pretty nice.

I like girl names ending with "a" my daughter's name is Celia.

have you considered a name like Kyra perhaps ? it offers many different spellings so you could find one that you liked the best ...otherwise ..i would agree with Ava as well ...but i am biased ..thats my daughters name ;) lol ...good luck on your baby name quest :)

We're stuck with Lee, the spelling, and it being a seperate middle name. It comes from my husband's middle name. The first born sons in his family all share it. I already got him to break the rule about it being for a boy only because Lee is technically gender neutral so I'm not gonna push my luck. :-) Thanks though!

Why not include Lee into the first name Leslee, Kaylee, Haylee, Brilee, ect? My cousin used his mother's middle name and her mother's middle name so neither would feel left out (KayLee) and added a middle name that was not a family name (Ann). Good luck and by the time you have another baby, you may have completely different name choices anyway.

The middle name has to be Lee and spelled that way too. I got to have our son's middle name be Owen, a family name, if I agreed that our second born's middle name could be Lee, also a family name. I'm also trying to keep in mind how it would sound with Liam since that's our son's name.

I like Ava and Emma Lee. I really like Ellia Lee but my husband doesn't and he knew someone with the last name Ellia that he didn't like so that's out. Sophia Lee isn't bad either. I dunno. Would still love to hear more ideas if anyone has one. :-) Thanks!

Does the middle name have to be spelled Lee? I always felt that Leigh was the more feminine way to spell it. Just a thought!! And also if you wanted to play off of Lee, the middle name could be Leeann....easier to find a first name to flow with! I have always liked Elizabeth Leeann... Good luck though!!!! :)
