Fin is 9 months now and I cannot get him to hold his own bottle. I didn't think anything of it till my friend came over with her 5 month old and I saw him holding his own bottle! Which totally shocked me lol. I have tried to get my son to hold his and he just drops his hands to his sides. He will hold a bottle of water just fine however. Is anyone elses baby not holding his own bottle yet?

Babies who are used to having bottles propped in their mouths, who aren't held while they are fed, and who are overfed from the bottle are the ones who tend to hold their own bottles. I wouldn't think anything of him not doing it, because it means he is comfortable enough to trust you to meet his needs. If he CAN, but won't, it's not like he's missing some major milestone or something.

My daughter who is 9 months can hold her bottle she just prefers not too. I nursed her until 7 months so she never needed to hold a bottle at that point. If he is hungry enough he will pick it up on his own or at least I find my daughter will.

He can see the difference i am pretty sure, and i always give him water in a 4 ounce bottle and his milk in the 8 to 10 ounce bottles. I thought at first it was too heavy for him but I think he might just like me holding it for him.

If he can hold a bottle of water and not that one then he's just messing with you. When he drops it I would just leave it. Eventually he'll get the point and do it on his own. How does he know the difference in the water and the milk/juice? Can he see it or is it specifically the taste?

My little one is 9 months & she's also not holding her own bottle yet. she's too busy playing with her blankie, being fascinated by her hands or playing with her hair. She'll get there in her own time.

If he can old a bottle of water my guess would be he isnt holding his bottle cuz he knows you will do it for him and he dont have to.
