I'm looking into buying a breast pump, but I don't want to waste my money on a pump that won't do its job. I am wanting the Medela freestyle, but at $379 I want to see if there are any others that are just as good. Any information on any pump would be greatly appreciated. If you liked or hated the pump you used, can you please tell me why you hated it and if you had experience with any other pumps. Thanks =)

I use the Avent Isis manual pump and I LOVE it. It was only $60, but your hands/wrists don't get tired and you can take it anywhere with you since it's so small. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I used a Medela in hospital, they are fantastic. I bought a cheapy, cherub baby online and blew it up within four weeks. I then purchased an Avent, fantastic, as a bonus Avent have a full range of bottle and accessories, high quality and user friendly. Also Ava prefers the Avent bottle above all others. Best of luck

Quoting Monique:

I use a manual Tommy Tipee pump. It works really good and is really fast. It cost about $85.

I use both the manual and electric Tommy tipee ones, they both work well and are not painful, the electric pump is a bit noisy,  I find I get cramp in my hand when using the manual, hence why I have both. But either one works really well, good luck and I hope you find a good one.

I bought the lansinoh double breast pump for around $160 it seems to work really well. I bought it at wal mart and all of the reviews on their website were excellent! I use mine quite a bit and will be using it when I go back to work only downfall is it doesn't come with a case like some of them do.

I have a Medela Pump in Style and I love it. My insurance covered it with a 10% co-pay for medical equipment, so it only cost me $24. Your doctor has to prescribe it and use the correct diagnosis code if your insurance covers it, but good rule of thumb to call the insurance company before you purchase one. I got mine at a local medical equipment store.
I'll be heading back to work in 3 weeks so I've been building up a good stock pile of milk in the freezer by pumping about once a day.

I bought the Medela Pump N Style about a month ago and its wonderful (cost $279.00)l. I was actually going to by the Medela FreeStyle, but the lactation consultant on duty at the time of my purchase told me that the Pump N Style was just as good. She indicated that I would be paying the extra $100 for the Hands Free pumping accessories and the smaller pump (the pump n style is built into the bag, the FreeStyle apparently weighs 1 pound and is not built into the bag). At the time of my purchase, the lactation consultant had not sold any of the Free Styles and had not heard any feedback on them. Hope this helps. Oh and one more thing, I didn't realize this but you can buy bras that will hold the breastshields in place (I have seen them in the $30 to $50 price range).

I have a medela pump n' style. I didn't want to pay the $379 either for a medela so I checked out ebay. I got a brand new one...sealed in the box for $200 with shipping. It has worked well so far. I think it may be last years model but that doesn't matter. They have tons of pumps on ebay. I have a friend that got a medela that was used cheap and she just changed all the parts (i.e tubing, ect.)

I have the Medela Advance Pump in Style and it is AWESOME! Pumping only takes about fifteen minutes (total for both breasts) and I also have the car adapter so I can pump in the car at work. It was expensive, but since I pump multiple times daily I needed a machine I could count on. I would def. recommend it.

I have The First Years Mi pump and I love it! It's a lot cheaper than some of the other pumps I looked at. I figured if it didn't work out, I wasn't out much. It is comfortable, not many parts, comes with a travel bag, and has adjustable suction speeds.

I bought a Playtex Double Electric Pump, for $150. It has been great so far. I also bought an Evenflo Hand Pump for $20. It has been a life saver. I carry it in my purse, just in case.

I have the Medela Pump in Style and I love it. I think it's almost $300 but my insurance paid for it. I'd check your insurance and see if you might be covered if your worried about price. Most insuances concider a breast pump as medical equipment.

Hey
I've just bought the Advent manual pump. To be honest I wasn't expecting much from a manual but bought one as the electric ones are just to expensive. I have to say though I have been really impressed with it, would highly recommed. :)

You really dont have to get the expensive ones! The First Years, MiiPump works just fine and at only $50.

I had the Medela Swing but as I'm exclusively pumping it was working for me to have only a single pump. So I now have the Medela Pump-In-Style and I love it. I think they run about $280 but I bought mine used from craigslist for $80.

I got the Ameda pump from my local WIC office at a good discounted price and I love it, also its just like the Lansinoh one. In fact i read that Lansinoh actually bought the patent from Ameda and just increased the price ridiculously ... My fiance and I read review after review and found that any electric pump (brand new) that is under $70.00 had like 1 to 2 stars .. definitely one of those you get what you pay for if you get it from the stores

I have a Medela hand pump that can be turned into an electric pump with a rental machine. And I have the Ameda Purely Yours electric pump. I like both but prefer the hand pump. Some hospitals offer rental machines at reasonable prices, a friend rents hers for about $15 a month.

with my first child i used an ameda purely yours double electric ($149.95) and i hated it. it just wasn't comfortable in any way.

this time around i have a medela pump in style double electric that i'm not sure if i'll like. it was hand me down from my brother's wife. she replaced all the tubing and everything that can't be reused from person to person. i'm not sure of the price on it though. it seems to be comfortable at first try and the sucking action is pretty decent but as a already stated, not sure if it's going to be the one for me. haven't given birth yet and have no reason to be pumping regularly so i'm not 100% on it yet. my sister in law swears by it though.

i also have an avent isis manual pump that i love. it's simple and easy for travel. and can be purchased for as little as about $34.

I am using the Lanshiosh (sp?) double electric pump. You can look online to find one uses. I bought my for 70$ they are orignally 145$ I steralized it over and over but it works great. I am a SAHM so I don't use it as often but it works for day trips out and it pumps fast!
