Climbing and falling out of crib! HELP!

yah my son was born september 14 2009 and has been climbing out of his crib for about 2 months now so what we decied to do was get him a todler bed and belive it or not he does not get out of that bed even though he can i think they just like climbing and when u take the fun away they sleep like babays

Hi my son now 4 climbed out of his cot at 10 months I had to take one of the sides of and put the bed guard on the other side. I thought it would be safer. he climbed out the first few nights but got bored there after (thankfully). My Daughter born 8/9 is a climber too and walking however like me she likes her sleep :-)

We have a friend that used a topper to the crib b/c they had the same problem. It was like a netted tent on the top, but worked like a charm. Good luck!

OMGosh thank you thank you thank you, i thought my son was the only one that did all this! we bought him a play yard thinking it would keep him out of stuff, and well he just pushes it around the house, he also takes the protective covers off the outlets! he has been climbing up the side of the crib sence he was about 9 months, guess we should start looking at beds just so there is no chance of him getting hurt! again thanks every for this post!!!!! :)

Someone mentioned the baby nest. We looked into them to keep the cat from jumping in the crib (which he never did anyway). I agree, the nest may just be a waste of money because you'll need the toddler bed anyway. Plus, it's just something else to fiddle with before you can actually get to your baby.

Hi there, my little girl was born on 9/21/09 and she ie doing the same and now I don't put her to sleep in her crib anymore, she sleeps in a play pen ie more safe for me that her falling out of the crib or geting her Chihu legs stuck.

I place my little girl on the mattress... it is safer for now, as she tosses around. I am thinking to get a bed when she is 18-20 months

That just doesnt seem safe to me. If something happens you have to fight with a zipper to get your lo out? Personally I would rather have mine in a toddler bed.

buy a baby nest. they attach to frame and cover over top of crib it has a handy zipper toget him in and out of thus keeping him in crib

Its time to transition him into a toddler bed. My daughter was born 9/15/09 and shes not far from me having to do the same. If its a choice between her climbing and falling from that high up or letting her transition to another stage (im not ready for but she is) then its time for me to get the tool bag out and change her crib into her big girl bed.

If you have a crib bumper in there, then take it off. Many times that is what kids use to climb over the railing.

Transition/toddler bed time? If you can't afford one, the crib mattress on the floor works fine :-)

I thought it was a boy thing but, after reading the other mom's post I know it isn't. My son stands on the bumper and jumps to get momentum. Soon he'll get out, but I just moved our bed closer to his so he'll at least have something to jump on to instead of the floor. But he'll probably pick the floor anyway!

My son is also a climber and I've found that putting him a sleep sack (like a sleeping bag with holes for the arms) has given us peace of mine at night. He's tall and the crib rail with the mattress at the lowest level is at his armpits so I've been scared of him falling over or climbing out as well. But the sleep sack prevents him from being able to lift his leg over the rail. Good luck and I hope this helps a bit.

OMG My son was born on the same exact date and about 2 days ago he did the same thing. My mom told me that I did it too when I was little so she put my matress on the floor. Its about time for me to do the same for myson.... It has to hurt falling that far,

My oldest daughter did the same thing. That was the day I took the side off of her crib and turned it into a toddler bed with a safety rail. I never had a problem with her falling out of her bed afterwards. My youngest will turn 1 on Sept. 4th and he climbs on everything too, but he's not walking yet, so he's okay in his crib for a while longer. But I had to stop co sleeping with him because he would wake up and crawl all over the bed. I was too afraid he'd climb over the pillows and fall head first to the floor, so now he is a crib sleeper.
I would definately advise you to take the side of the crib off and put a toddler rail in. It worked well for me with my daughter. Another plus side to doing that was, when she woke up from her naps and in the morning, instead of crying for me to come get her, she would just climb out of bed and start playing in her room.

Mine was born on the 24th too, and is also a psycho baby. lol Julian is not only walking (for the past 2 months) but running and climbing. He climbs over baby gates as well. What a handful. I would probably go right along with everyone else saying time for toddler bed. They grow so fast! =(

Yeah, my son isn't walking on his own yet either, just climbing. Maybe we will have to try the toddler bed. We've already tried a mattress on the floor, but he rolls all around in his sleep and ends up on the floor on the other side of his room.

yup my daughter does the same thing little escape artists! fortunately we have a convertible crib and just switched to to a toddler bed now that she can walk. If you dont have one just put the babys matress on the floor til you get one and but a baby gate up at his door so he dosent wonder out during the night...good luck

definately sounds like he's ready for a "big boy" bed...maybe try a mattress on the floor for a little while so he gets used to it and doesn't fall out of bed

My son is a little monkey too! The little bugger isn't walking on his own yet but he crawls ALL OVER EVERYTHING! He climbs on to the couch, on the end tables, on top of ANYTHING he can manage to get on top of!!! Scares the dickens out of me!!! He doesn't use his crib yet, but if your boy is climbing over the rail it sounds like it is time to take it off! We have a convertable crib so if I were you I would turn it into the toddler bed w/the rails right about now!!! Better he falls out from the mattress then the top of the rail!!!
