I have a 7 month old little girl who very obviously wants food, she will lunge across the table for yours, but pretty much refuses to eat baby food. She's a boob girl, never takena bottle. We started trying cereal a month or two ago and she hated it. No matter how thin I made it, she would choke and gag and refuse to eat it. So then I tried just fruits and veggies, thinking maybe it was just the cereal she didn't like. But no such luck, she won't even eat straight fruit. She will gum away at the biter biscuit type foods, but is about it. Is anyone else having this type of problem with feeding? Any suggestions?

my solely breastfed daughter only took baby food for a few weeks and started refusing it all together so i just give her tiny pieces of whatever im eating now she eats anything and everything lol(still not jarred baby food but she does love that baby yogurt) also she goes nuts over those gerber toddler puffs. she couldn't get them in her mouth on her own right away but after a week she was snatching them right up and putting them straight into her mouth...sometimes they get trapped in her palm though but shes getting the hang of it(she knows it has to be between her thumb and finger so thats what she tries to do. i love watching her eat! btw ever try cereal its nasty blegh

Melissa,
Have you tried Graham crackers? They are easy for baby to hold, and melt in their month. Or regular saltine crackers....

Thanks for the info Kimberly. She seems to really like the baby Mum Mums and the baby cookies. She doesn't seem to have the fine motor mastered enough yet to get the little puffs and things into her mouth, but I think she will definitely be a self feeder and finger food lover. The only thing that still concerns me is that she still seems to choke on things. I don't know if it's because she's rejecting the food or she's rejecting the food because it makes her choke. I guess I shouldn't be too concerned, she is growing just fine and checks out fine at the pediatrician. I just feel bad because it is obvious that she wants to eat, I just can't find the right food for her.

Sounds like she is not a baby food eater :) My twins are finger food lovers and want to do it all themselves. I exclusively breast feed them - no bottles at all. And they LOVE cheerios, puffs, baby cookies (bitter biscuits), Mum mums, cooked carrots & green beans cut into pieces (i get the gerber ones). Maybe she just wants to feed herself??? Or try making your own babyfood - more flavor.

maybe try making the cereal thicker. If she likes the biter biscuits, maybe she likes the harder/thicker stuff. I dunno, just a shot in the dark. You may want to try a few times. I changed my son from regular oatmeal to oatmeal with bananas (the powdered cereal) and he gagged on it like three different feedings before he ate it and wanted it. Do you mix the cereal with breastmilk? I always make the cereal with formula and mixed with breastmilk when i was nursing too. Also, if you haven't yet, you may want to feed her at the same time you all eat. Maybe her seeing you all eat will encourage her to eat from a spoon too.
