Feeding Question?

My 8 month old eats stage 2 foods really good. He can eat some soft mushy table foods but only if I place them in his mouth. He likes gerber puffs too, but again I have to feed him. He eats well from a feeder (mesh thing that you put food in to avoid choking).

I was just wonder how I could encourage him to feed himself small bits of food and puffs? And also what foods are you feeding your 8 month olds?

Alley picked up finger foods quite easily like other posts I would leave it for her to grab. I would show her by eatin one myself & then givin her one. Then puttin one in her hand. She puts everythin in her mouth so she got the idea.

Im actually feedin her stage 3 foods now even tho she just turned 8m. She started crawlin 7m 3wks old. She likes the food so much better. She also eats adult bananas but i mush then up a bit keepin them lumpy but still where she can swollow it. she loves the puffs, crunchies, biter biscuits.

Does your baby take toys from you when you hand them to him? My daughter started eating finger foods months ago, but the way we got her to understand was I would put a few on her high chair tray and hand her one and then feed her one. She knew they were something to eat and she would try to grab them and put them in her mouth. It took a while for her to be very successful at finger foods, but now she is a champ. She is mastering the pincher graps and gets the food in her mouth almost every time!

Look up Baby Led Weaning for advice on finger foods. Just use his highchair tray as his plate, and let him choose himself.

maybe try just leaving it on his highchair table, see what he does. then try hand over hand, helping his hand grab the food.

some food we have tried: bananas, toast, mashed potatoes, farley biscuits, baby mum mum cookies, we tried rice (he doesnt really like it), small peices of chicken. pretty much anything we have at dinner, that is pure (no salt/spices and so on) he tries.
