Hi Mums,

My 7 month old daughter always grabs her own hair or ears. Is this normal? Do your baby do this too? I'm scared that she might hurt herself because she's quite strong and don't really realise her own strength. She pulls at her hair and ears pretty hard.

She sometimes play with my husband's ears too. It's funny.

My son grabs his ears or our ears when he is tired or his teeth hurt really bad.

My little one pulls and grabs his own ears too! I was worried at first but the doctor checked his ears and there was no infection. However, that is usually a sign of an infection. My doctor told me that he is probably teething. Also, he pulls my hair too. I have bangs and many times he is running his little fingers through my hair while he is drinking his bottle or falling a sleep if I am reading to him. I think in some way it comforts him. :)

Hi Mums,

Just wanted to let you know, that my daughter just had an ear infection couple of days ago. So it's confirmed. She was pulling her ears because of the infection.

Thanks Mums.

My duaghter grabs her hair when she is frustrated or when she is trying to put herself to sleep. I have heard that pulling on their ear could mean an ear infection. I would bring it up to your doctor next itme you go.

My daughter used to yank her hair really hard and scream. She hasn't really done that too much lately, usually she's pulling anybody else's hair she can grab. And earrings, necklaces, glasses, etc. I would just untangle her hand from her hair and she would get over it pretty quick. Hopefully it'll pass soon!

my daughter 'twirls' her hair and her ears when shes laying down drinking a bottle and she does it when shes tired... she hasnt had an ear infection yet so idk how she would react to that.

My little one is actually facinated with grabbing and pulling my hair! He just reaches for a handful when ever I'm not looking and oweeeeeee. He does sometimes twirl is own hair while he is drinking his bottle but as of yet, he doesn't pull his own. Smart baby! As far as the ears - my son scratches and pulls at his ears when he has had an ear infection. Otherwise I haven't seen him doing that.

Grabbing ears can be sign of teething, which my son is doing and is grabbing his ears. He has no hair so he can't grab any! If your daughter isn't teething she might just be enjoying the feel of her hair, and learning how to grip things. In this case her hair and ears. Give her toy to distract her maybe.
Good luck!

My daughter does this when she has ear infections. She has had 2 recently and started grabbing her hair and ears before any fever or crying. We went to the dr. to check her ears and both times, it was the start of an ear infection.
