I have been trying to a little while now to slowly switch my baby from formula to milk. First I tried whole milk and she wouldn't drink it. So I waited a little while and tried it again (thinking time would be all she needed) and she still refused to drink it. So now I tried a soy milk with Vanilla flavoring thinking it might taste better but she still won't drink it. Now if I give her a cup of juice she will down it within seconds but refuses to drink a milk cup. I tried not giving her juice and only offering milk but that doesn't help. She still won't drink it and then gets grumpy because she's thirsty. Now if I give her a cup with formula that will also disappear in seconds. She eats more then enough food that she does not need formula anymore but I don't want to stop giving it to her if she's not going to drink milk. I am almost out of my last can (I bought 6 cans awhile ago lol) and don't want to buy more because I don't think she needs it. Someone with ideas please help!

The problem I had, is that I'm lactose intolerant, so my milk made my baby very gassy when I drank regular milk. He got used to the taste of Lactaid in my milk. I'm trying to slowly get him used to milk, too, weaning him off of my breast during the day and only nursing him at night, I add Lactaid milk to his cereal instead of juice or breastmilk. Plus I started getting him used to the cup with my breastmilk in it, then switched to the lactaid once he was used to sucking out of a cup. Lactaid tastes different than regular milk, a little sweeter because it goes through a different process than regular cow's milk to get rid of the lactose, which I can't digest and he couldn't either. Now that he's used to the taste of lactaid, he drinks it out of a cup in big gulps, as long as it's warm. I agree, you can also try mixing it with your baby's formula to get her used to the taste.
My son still rathers breastfeed than anything, but, since I'm in the WIC program, they will be cutting my food vouchers as soon as he turns 1 and start giving him milk. So, I started to get him used to it now, but am not pushing him to drink it if he doesn't want to. Sometimes he still refuses to drink it, also.

I have that problem but my son is still breastfed. I even tried giving breastmilk in a cup and he refuses it. Will only drink water and juice out a cup and nothing else. I gave up ages ago because he is set on what he wants and it only makes him upset. I spoke to my Dr about it and he said if I want to wean him off now that is fine. As long as he gets a well balanced diet (which he does), eats plenty calcium (yoghurt, custard, cheese etc) and plenty fluids (water, juice, tea etc), then he doesn't need milk.

Like Candace was talking about we are in the process of stepping Jakob down from BM to cows milk. 1st we start w/2oz. cows milk & 6 ozs. BM, this week were going 3oz C 5ozBM, then 4/4, then 6C/2BM, He will have his last BM bottle on his bday and then if he gets it it'll be all cow in cups!!! No more bottle after his bday either! When his brother was switched from breast milk to cows milk he went on a milk strike. We just made sure her got plenty of yogurt, broccoli, cantelope, calcium rich foods, etc. They both ♥ their water!!! Not too much juice around here...my husband and I are not milk drinkers and the boys are healthy so we don't worry about it.

We haven't made the switch yet. I am going to wait until my son's one year check to speak with the doctor first. Although, I read in a book that it may work to mix the formula and milk to get the baby used to the taste. Going form 1/4 and 3/4 mix, to 1/2 and 1/2, etc. Good luck.

I have a similar problem with my son, i tried him on cows milk, now he completely refuses formula, he'll only drink semi skimmed cows milk, not full fat, as your little one, he will drink endless cups of juice. He wont drink milk during the day at all, but i can get him to have a full bottle of milk at bed time, he'll have plenty of milk on cereal, i try to give him lots of yoghurts, cheese as a substitute to ensure he is getting plenty of calicium, he also refuses rice pudding and custard. Otherwise he eats a very healthy and varied diet. I was advised that if he is not drinking the milk, to ensure he gets the enough dairy in other forms, when they looked at his diet they were happy he is having enough. This probably isnt much help to you, but sometimes its nice to know there are others in the same boat.

she does not need milk. It has no nurtitional value to humans......Make sure you give her plenty of yogurt, cheese and other dairy products. I give my daughter sheep milk and goat milk, and I give her sheep and goat milk yogurts. She loves them, I do not give her the milk to drink she only gets it in her baby cereal....and to drink she does not get any kind of juice.......she only drinks water and i breast feed her at night. Good luck....
