When I took Gavin in for his 9 month check up, they measured his head and they said it was not growing like it should. It measured 43 cm which I think is around 17 inches. His doctor is sending us to have his head checked, we already had the x-rays done, we are leaving to go to Lexington tomorrow and he has a appointment Wednesday. Will you all let me know how big your babys head is?

Ok UPDATE: Gavin has to have a MRI and EEG. The doctor said that his bones where still growing, but where he only had a x-ray he could not see inside his head. I do not know when the appointment is, but I will update you all when we have it done. Thanks for all the comments I got.

Another UPDATE: Gavin had his MRI and EEG done, they both came back find. They said there was nothing gone on, he just might have a small head, but he is small anyways. He is 14 months old and he only weighs 19 lbs.

My little on turned one on the 17th of Sept. She is 20lbs... According to her German Pedi she is fine but, according to the American Dr on Base she is too small...She eats like a grown up and is constantly on the go. I wouldn't worry about his size. If he is happy and healthy that is all that matters

ha! I am just so fed up with the doctors being so critical! My doctor is sending us to check our babies head too, his is measuring too big. (19 inches) so i guess they should be a perfect 18 inches!!!! In a way, I am thankful he is so cautious, but stop scaring us mothers all the time!

My daughter has a big head too, I can't remember what her last measurement was but it was right at the top of the chart. I remember being 36 weeks pregnant, I had a scan and they told me her head circumference was the size of a 41 week old baby! great thing to tell a first time mum who was terrified of giving birth! Hope everything is ok for you.

My daughter was born on 9/11/09 now 10 1/2 months old her head
circumference is 46.50 cm (roughly 18 inches) they said she's growing just fine along the growth chart! I wouldn't worry everything will be ok!! Just give Gavin all that extra worrying you have and turn it into lots of hugs and kisses!! :)

At 7 months, my son's head circumference measured 45cm (17.72 inches). Which was in the 97th percentile. Now at 10 months, it's 47cm (18.51 inches).

I just took my son to the doctor 2 days ago, and they said his head is 19 inches and he is in the 90% and that is fine.

My son's head has always been off the charts, since birth! Wasn't so much fun getting that head out! At 9 months his head was 20 inches.

Try not to worry too much (I know it's hard) until all the appointments are done with. Every child progresses differently; so I'm sure that the doctors are playing "better safe than sorry."

I think doctors only worry when the kid isn't following their curve. I just checked the doctor's website and I think Henry is just under 19 inches, like maybe 18 3/4. And if they deviate from their own curve, then there is reason for worry. Henry was in the 80th percentile for weight for the first three months. Then I lost my supply and I didn't quite know but then when he went in for his checkup he went down the 50th percentile. The doctor seemed not worried but wanted us to come in the next month for a weight check and he gained normally and stayed on the 50-60 percentile and he has stayed on that curve since. Since your son started in the 25th percentile and has gone to the 3rd, that's probably why the doctor is concerned.

Hey Connie, I just looked back at my son's records & at his 9 month appt, his head was also 17 inches. They didn't say anything to me about it though. I've never really noticed that my son's head is too small. He's a smaller child in general...he only weighed 17.11 lbs at 9 months. Let us know what the results are! I'll be curious to see what they say. I'm sure everything is totally normal though! :)

Yeah I will love him, they said that he was in the 3%. He was in the 25% when he was born, so I do not think there is anything wrong with him, but we are still taken him to the doctors in Lexington.

I don't know how big my boy's head is, but he's off the charts of averages. My kids have large heads though. I wouldn't worry too much. He'll be fine. Whatever is wrong (or right :) ), you'll love him no matter what!!!
