How big was your child at 2 months old? My daughter had her shot's today and her pediatrician ( a new one) told me that my daughter is to heavy. She is 10 pounds. She was only 6.7 when she was born. She also told me to reduce her formula intake and give her water and cereal as a subsitute if she is still hungry after 4 ounces of formula...What should I do? She said that if she doesn't reduce in calories when she is one that she has to go on a diet...I think she is crazy

Quoting Pamela:

Babies are SUPPOSED to be chubby!!! We just had our 2 month check last week (at 9.5 weeks) and the dr was very happy with my chubby baby. She was 7lbs and 19.25 inches at birth and at her appointment was 13lbs 7oz and 23.25 inches. We exclusively breast feed though and BF babies tend to gain faster.
I asked my doc about her weight and she said she'd rather see a chubby baby then a thin one. She said that if the baby were to get sick or something happened where they weren't eating for a day or two, a thin baby would be in danger much faster than a chubby one.

i strongly disagree both breastfed and formula fed babies gain about the same. and the part about getting sick and not eating they wouldn't let that happen the drs that is, they would put them in the hospital and run a iv so that they could get their nutrition.

Faith was 10 lbs 15 oz she was 6lbs 9 oz when she was born the doctor said she is gaining weight just fine! not worried about her being to heavy..

Faith drinks 4 oz of Formula every 3-4 hours! we even added cereal to it to help with her acid reflux but then the doctor put her on Medication because the cereal didn't help

Still not sleeping thru the night either although only getting up at 2am and 5am then sleeping till 7 or 8 am. We go to bed at 12am.

I think your doctor sounds crazy. Your daughter sounds like she is a good weight. I also don't think it's smart to reduce the calories and I heard that you shouldn't introduce formula until at least 4 months because it can be bad for their tummies. Maybe try getting a second opinion since you don't agree with what your doctor says.

i dont agree with the formula part due to the fact of some babies cant take to breastmilk. so for the formula fed babies what are you suppose to feed them water? that is kinda crazy.

Weight really depends on their length too to see if they are considered over weight. My son was 13 lbs at 2 months but he was 23 inches long, so my doctor doesn't consider him overweight. My doctor told me that babies at this age should not be drinking more than 32 oz of formula at this age. And my son was 7.4 when he was born, not a very big baby.

that is very crazy my daughter was 8 pounds at birth and at 2 months she weighs 13 pounds 5 ounces and her dr said that is healthy and doesnt reccomend cereal or water because water has no nutrion and the cereal they could choke and it will mess up their developing degestive system. We were told feed her when shes hungry if she needs more than 4 oz feed her what she wants shes still growing. My daughter is almost 2 and a half months and eats 4-6 ounces in a feeding. What your dr is saying is to put your daughter on a diet now thats not good. So if shes hungry after 4oz feed her more not any substitues shes healthy not to heavy.

He was 13 lbs even and 23.5 inches at his 2 month check up....and he has gained fast because he was only 5 lbs 13 oz and 20 inches at birth! I'm with Rebecca. I do what I think is best for my baby. The Dr is always going by the book and you can't do that with babies. Like I said before both of my girls were very big at two months and as soon as they start moving they start to drop the fatty look. I would go with my gut feeling on this one and plus get a new dr.

She eats everytime her eyes open and doesn't stop until she is full. She was 6lbs 10oz when she was born and 6lbs 3 oz when we left the hospital. There is nothing wrong with your daughter. You have to go with you motherly intuition on that one.

I would find a different doctor! Your daughter is supposed to be growing and it's good for her to weigh more. If she isn't gaining it's a sign of something wrong, but 10 lbs isn't that big. There are babies that are 10 lbs at birth!

The rice cereal fills them up for a little longer too. I think that the Dr. is just crazy at telling you that. She is perfectly fine with her weight. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Who is to say that your baby weights to much or not, every baby is always different because of the parents make up.

Yea I think my ped did get her degree out of a cereal box. And I gave my daughter some apple sauce just about an hour ago for the first time and she drank about 3 oz of formula and now is asleep, She hasn't slept all day. So I think I'm going to start giving her a little baby food twice a day with formula then a little juice. Help her stay full longer. And she did great with it, she didn't put her hands in her face or go after the spoon, she just got mad if I slowed down or stopped feeding her lol

Not every baby is the same and plus I understand that whole thing about the M.D and F.A.A.p thing but who knows how your child is. M girls are like your son or anyone else baby so you can only do what you think is right for your child and yourself. At one month my youngest was drink about 6 oz of formula then at 6 weeks I had to put cereal in it and it is making her full for right now. In a few weeks it might not or it might still. I wont know until the time comes.

I did the same thing as Shari did with my oldest daughter and let me tell you what. Its a great thing knowing that your baby can handle the food and getting full and the sleep is great. My oldest started baby food at 12 weeks after getting cereal at 9 weeks. Every baby is different and you cant really go by the book with babies. Its also good to know thtat my new little one isnt the biggest one out there. :)

i have started giving my son cereal and baby food, he has been doing great with it, and finally seems to be getting full. i told my ped. this after i gave him baby food for the first time and she said that if i think that he is ready and he is doing fine then she doesnt have a problem with it, but if he started having any problems at all then i needed to pull him off of it. i know that many of you disagree with this, but for the first time, my son is happy, and sleeping good. he is finally getting full. he still gets formula all day, but in the evenings, he has baby food. and then 3 hours later, a bottle and then goes to bed and sleeps until around 7am. This worked for me, but all babies are different, and many will have problems digesting it, but my lil man is having no problems at all.

Did your ped get his degree in a baby cereal box?????
Do not give a 2 month old cereal, their stomachs are not ready to digest solid food yet. And for the weight...my daughter was born big because she was 4100g, and at her 8 week check up she was 5995g. That is 13lbs. Baby eats as much as they need...and being so small, that is just what they need....If you want you can give it water at night for ex. if you feed your baby at midnight, and she wakes up at 3am to be fed, you can try to substitute it with water (boiled, and cooled) however I wouldn't. My daughter is above average with weight, and I am not worried....she is perfectly healthy looking baby:) good luck!

your baby is fine, my son weighed 12 lbs 3 oz at his 2 months checkup, and was 24 inches long. he weighed 6 lbs 14 oz at birth. My daughter, who is now 2 weighed 4lbs 10oz at birth and weighed 10lbs 14 oz at her 2 months checkup, and she was 22 1/2 inches long. (she was a premie). i wouldn't worry to much about it. I was also told by WIC that my son eats to much, and that i should only feed him every 4 hours. he eats 8-10oz in the mornings and 6-8 oz every 2 hours. but when i asked his dr. she said that he is just going to be a big boy. i am 5'1 and his daddy is 6'3. But they also told me that my daughter is going to be overweight, because she is 2 and weighs 32lbs and is 36 inches long. idk, just do what i do, go with your gut. my daughter has seen like 4 diff. dr.'s before we finally found the one that we like. just keep looking. and dont let anyone make you do something that you feel uncomfortable doing. when i told my ped. what wic said, she told me to always remember that you are the mom and you and only you know what is best for your child. hope this helps.
