How many hours does your baby sleep at night before waking?

My Hudson only goes about 4 hours and then wakes up STARVING. He will cry and cry - we let him go an entire hour once - and not fall back asleep until he's had 4-6 oz of milk. Then he falls asleep and will go another 5 - 7 hours, but he ALWAYS wakes up for a midnight snack.

The pediatrician says he should be able to go 8 hours and not wake up, but he clearly disagrees. We give him a bottle before bed and he usually takes 4-6 oz of that, so it's not that he hasn't eaten for hours before bed.

How are your babies doing? Anyone have tips on how to break him of his need for the midnight snack?

My 9 month old still wakes up after 4 hours of sleep. Sometimes I can get him to take a bottle of water, sometimes absolutely nothing except boobie helps get him back to sleep. He is breastfed, nursed to sleep, and eats solids throughout the day... so many people have told me to try rice cereal. Well, we introduced whole foods almost 5 months ago and he still wakes up during the night.

You could introduce Rice cereal. Give it to him when he's not very hungry at a time before he sleeps. I just started Rice cereal to mine and she sleeps longer now. Shes 4 months.

My little man sleeps aprox.10-12 hours at night and has been doing so since he was 10 weeks, he goes down between 6:30 & 7:30pm and is up between 5:30 & 6:30am. Every baby is different!

My daughter who is 6 months goes down at 7pm and lately has been waking up at 11pm for 2 hours of crying. I used to try feeding but my pediatrician said that she will become dependent on the midnight snack so I got rid of it. She still wakes so I am assuming it is her teeth that are bothering her. Just roll with the waking and do what you feel comfortable with. The routine will change again soon I'm sure.

My son's been sleeping all night since he was a month and a half. his last feeding is usually at 8 or 9 depending on when we woke up that morning and he usually sleeps until 930 or sometimes even 1030am

My son is 6 1/2 months and hasn't been eating at night for about two months- lucky me! He eats his last meal of the day around 6:30pm- it's about 7 ounces and a jar of baby food. He is good to go until his 7am wake-up time!

My little girl is up every 4 hours. It's possible that she's still doing it out of habit instead of really being hungry. Have you looked up night weaning?

lucky! my son sleeps 2 -3 hours before he wakes up. Then he's up every hour to 1 1/2 hours from 10:30 (his bedtime is 7:30) until 4:30, then will sleep until 7:00am. That is my dear son's routine.

My son is 6 months and sleeps 11-12 hrs straight through! Every once in a while he will wake up in the middle of the night b/c he is wet, so I change him, feed him and he goes back to sleep pretty fast! :)

Banyan is 6.5 months old and we breastfeed & cosleep. He usually goes down around 6:30pm and stays asleep until 12:30ish (6hrs), waking for a feeding. He will then sleep through until 5 or 6, when he's ready to begin the day. We do still have the occassional "rough night" where he wakes up an extra time in there somewhere. I just accept this as part of having a baby...

My lilttle man is nearly 7 months and he still wakes at 4:30 for a feed,I'm breastfeeding so i'm usually grateful for him to feed at that time. I put him down at 7 and he does usually sleeps through till then, once he's fed he will sleep another couple of hrs with a good chat to himself before he goes off again... if he wakes before i will give him water as sometimes it's just thirst. Maybe if you just give him water he will realise it's not worth waking for and just let him scream it out for a few nights hard but it will get better, good luck.

Silas sleeps about 10 hours a night :) He started out with 6 hours a night at 8 weeks & just kept sleeping longer. I breastfed and supplemented till 2 1/2 months & then went to just formula.

My fella gets a 7oz bottle at 10.30 and goes down straight away until 7am. He wouldn't at the start until I gave him a dodie (pacifier) soothing is all they may need but if food id there they will take it even if its not the real reason they awoke, this method worked on both my boys.

My daughter is still mostly breastfed and she can go up to eleven hours a night just because we supplement formula at night. About an hour before bed she gets a container of baby food. Then about 30 min later i breastfeed her, then 30 min after that she gets a 4-6 oz bottle of formula. Then she has to go to bed immediately (which she's sleepy anyway) or she'll spit up everywhere. If she goes to sleep immediately, however, she'll digest it all and stay asleep all night. So my suggestion would be to do some baby food mixed w/ cereal an hour or 2 before bed, then do the regular 4-6 oz bottle, and maybe 30 min to an hour later do another bottle if he'll take it. That should keep the tank full and keep him from waking up hungry. Hope this helps!

Of course if he refuses to eat or drink anymore, don't force him. Just let him have as much as he wants
