I have been feeding mine 5 1/2 - 6 per 3 hours and think I need to increase as well. My Ped said a good rule of thumb was to figure about half their weight (in oz.) but that seems high! oh and we do rice cereal - 1-2 Tbsp 2x a day,

my daughter ate that at five months, which tranlated into 4 6oz bottles. Recently she has been fussy at night time so I realized maybe we should up her formula, because the first 3 mths a nursed her so the formula thing was hard for me. now we give her 4 8 oz bottle if she drinks the extra she does, if not no problem. We just introduced oatmeal once a day, she had a problem with rice at 4 mths so we did not push it.

My daughter turned 5 months old on February 12. She drinks about 5 bottles of 5 - 6 ounces each every day. We have tried to introduce cereal several times, but she flat refuses to eat it. We have tried her one flavor of stage one baby food about 5 times, but she has no interest in it, and gets very upset when we try to feed her cereal or baby food, even when she is very hungry. Our pediatrician said this is fine and while some babies introduce solids around 4 - 5 months, other babies just aren't ready until 6 months. She said since Emily sleeps about 9-10 hours at night, and seems satisfied, that 25 - 35 ounces of formula each day is fine. We were told that Emily will tell us when she isn't satisfied.

My son has 6-7 oz every 2.5 hours, starting around 7:30am. He averaged 6 bottles a day ending around 7:30, in bed at 8:00 and he will sleep until 4:30 or5:00 am. I tried him on rice cereal a week ago but he was spitting up alot. I figured maybe his gut was still too imature, so we've stopped for now. He seems to be happy enough. I read about all these other babies who have been on solids for a while already at 5 months, and I think you have to remember that every baby is different, and as long as they seem content...go with the flow. Let them guide you!

My son will be 5 months this week and is on a pretty regular eating schedule. 8oz bottle in the morning, jar of fruit or veg with a 6 oz bottle for lunch, 8oz bottle at dinner time, cereal and 6 oz bottle at bed time. It works well for both of us and I know he's satisfied.

my daughter is 5 months tomorrow. she was a big baby (10lb) so she was ready for weaning quite early, we started on a few spoons of baby rice at 15 weeks. she now takes 3 meals a day of cereal and fruit & veg mixed with baby rice and milk. she still manages to fit in 7oz of milk in between her meals and before bed.
she loves her food, infact i am yet to find anything she wont eat - i do make sure i prepare everything myself from scratch though so i know exactly what she is eating.
go with whatever your baby wants, so long as they are healthy and happy and gaining weight steadily all is well.

Hello, My little man is 5 months on the 20th. He eats about 5 1/2 oz formula every 3-4 hours. Here is an example of our day: An hour before each feeding i will feed him his solids. This is great because he is not overly hungry and distracted. So bottle @ 9,am 11 he will have his bananas. 12 oclock bottle then 2 oclock 2nd helping of solids a veggie then 3 oclock bottle then 5 oclock solids another veggie for dinner then bottle before bed usually no later then 8. He seems to be thriving, he is ready to eat and opens his mouth so wide for the spoon...lol he weighs about 17lbs. You will know when his is ready he'll tell ya... :) Good luck!

our daughter arianna was born sept 25/09 and she is four and a half months old. she drinks about 8oz of formula first thing in the morning and around 8oz for her last feeding at night. during the day she has around three bottles between 4-8oz. she gets fruit for breakfast or rice or oatmeal cereal. lunch is usually some kind of veggie (squash is her favorite). we just started giving her more veggies with her night bottle.
she used to sleep 10-12 hours straight but has been quite fussy these past three weeks and we think it's because she was hungry at night and that just a bottle was not enough. tonight was the first time she got an 8oz bottle and a ramikin full of squash. hopefully she will be full till the morning because my partner steve and i are exhausted from the 4-6 wake ups that we have been doing every night!!!!
oh during her four month check up she weighed 14lbs 2 ounces.

My son is 5 months and 2 weeks old. He only drinks about 4.5 oz a feeding and has about 6 bottles a day, sometimes less. He hasn't started on solids yet as he didn't show much interest when we tried last week. I'll be preparing his foods though to save money!! Tiber eats like a bird, but has slept through the night since 6 weeks old and is in the 90th percentile for his weight.

My little girl east 7 ounces (give or take, mostly take, she lets me know when she is full) every 3 hours starting at 7:30 am and her last bottle at 10:30 pm. I have started her on cereal as well. 1 tsp in her bottle. She seems to be enjoying that a lot too. Also sleeps through the night and has been since she was 1.5 months old! She is now teething. Never had colic problems. Her Doctor says she is healthy, perfect weight, perfect size. Im lucky!

My son is 5 months now and he has been drinking 6 oz of formula every three hours since he was 4 months old. He averages 5 to 6 bottles a day depending on if he gets up through the night. We have just started him on 1 scoop of cereal at around 6:30 PM. He is enjoying being able to eat real food!! We are thinking about starting him on vegetables in about 3 weeks.

haha my son is such a little piglet! he turned 5 months two days ago... he's been taking an 8oz bottle every four hours since he was two months old. at his four month wellness check-up, my pediatrician said we could start solids, so now in addition to five 8 oz bottles, he also has a few ounces of oatmeal, prunes, sweet potatoes, bananas, or applesauce (i usually give him oatmeal and half a container of the gerber baby food). im a first time mother and my pregnancy was a "surprise," as we like to call it, but in my five months of motherhood, i've found that following your instincts is the best thing you can do; you know your son the best, so feed him as you see best. congrats and good luck!
(oh and if/when you start him on solids- there are these GREAT spoons out that are entirely soft.. no metal, just some rubbery material. anyway, they have been golden when transitioning to solids. they're really soft on baby's mouth while they're learning to eat out of a spoon. just though i'd give them a plug as i think they're great and might be great for others to use too!)

My little girl will have oat cereal in the morning around 7 or 8. she will bf about half an hour later and nap. I give her veggies for lunch (12) and supper (5 or 6 pm) and she will bf between. If she is still hungry after the veggies, I give her some fruit as desert and only if she is hungry. Around 9 pm she will bf again and will be out for the night.

Kaden is 5 months in 10 days and he eats about 6 oz every 3 hours except at night when he eats at about 7PM (asleep no later than 8PM) and then not again until 4AM. I've given him rice cereal mixed with banana or just plain banana a half dozen times in the last 10 days in the AM but really just to work on the developing the skill to swallow and not as a supplement since his formula has all the nutrients he needs right now - per my ped - who also said a new fruit or veg. every 3 days was OK. I also tried some mango but he was that interested....tomorrow we are trying yams!

my son is 5 months also.. when he was 4 months i started him on just cereal, about 1 scoop cereal to 1 scoop formula, i made it a little runny at first to get him used to the spoon feeding, each time i would make it a little thicker. the cereal is just to get him used to eating actual food. then the rest of the day he would have his 6oz every 3 hrs. once he got used to that for about a week then started giving him 1st foods at his night time feeding around 5. started with yellow veggies to orange to green. then fed those to him for a month before i started fruit with his morning cerea, bc if they get used to the sweet stuff first they wont want to try anything else. after about his 2nd week with cereal and veggies i started to give him 4oz after each meal. so now when he wakes up around 9 now he has 2 scoops of cereal, 1 scoop formula and depending on the size of the fruit container either 1/2 or 1/4 of the container. after he finishes that he has 4 oz bottle. then eats a 8oz bottle around 1 or 2 then at 4 or 5 he has his veggie maybe a little fruit and a 4 oz bottle. then eats his 8oz bottle around 9 then goes to bed. he is on a schedule now which is easy for me and for him. you will know when ur son is ready for food, he seems interested in the food at the table, grabs at the food if your eating it. it may seem like a lot but my guy is a little guy he weighs about 15lbs and is in the 25th percentile for everything.

My son will be 5 months in a week & he's eating about 6-7oz every 3 hours or so. He eats 5 times a day, so he's getting between 30-35oz a day. I also feed him rice cereal or 1st foods once during the day (not every single day, maybe 4 times a week or so).

Saba- your baby started weaning himself off of your breast?? I hate to say this, but it is very unlikely for a baby to self wean before a year!!! He could have just been on a nursing strike, expecially if he was getting bottles because some babies who are bottlefed and breastfed will go on nursing strikes because it's easier to suckle from a bottle then the breast so they get lazy and frustrated with the breast because they want the easy meal.

i was feeling my baby is not satisfied with only breastmilk so i asked my dr which forbidded me to start anything till he is 6 months old but then he started weaning so
she suggested to give him formula 4 times with breast milk it was tough to give him bottle it has been 2 weeks since i started he dnt like it but i have to play tricks to make him take it benefit of it is he sleeps well now

When my son was about 16 weeks, he had 38oz milk and 9 mouthfuls of baby rice in one day! He wanted 5oz about every 2 hours until bedtime!
We have a food diary for him because he vomited a lot when he was younger (he is lactose intolerant, hasn't thrown up since on lactose free formula, yay!) so we keep track of exactly how much he is having even now to be one the safe side.
He's been a bit ill and off food for a few weeks, but he's back on having rice for breakfast and still has up to 30oz in one day as well. The tins say they should be having 24oz a day i think it is, but not all babies need as much, or as little.
He may be ready to start weaning if you are, but check with a health visitor or someone for advice first, but a few spoonfuls of baby rice an hour or so after his first feed of the day might help fill him up for longer.
Hope that helps!
