how often do you give newborns a bath?

Once a week is about right. More often than that will dry out their delicate skin. You don't want to use soap every time you wash them either, soap is very drying. When you do use soap, make sure you get it all rinsed off. The slightest traces of soap can cause major irritation. Because babies don't do much to get dirty they don't really need soap. Most of what they get on them is spilled breastmilk, which has antibiotic properties (you can acutally use it to cure diaper rash) or formula, and neither of those take any more than water to clean.

I am bath my newborn at least every other day, sometimes I go three or four days in a row bathing her, but my Willow seems to have bad gas and the bath seems to help her work it out. You are his mommy, and you know what is best for your little man. I have also noticed a bath helps to put her to sleep if she is being fussy, so I guess my excessive bathing has more to do with the calming sensation than keeping her clean.

I read that you should give your newborn a bath 2 to 3 times a week. They have natural oils in their skin so you don't want to wash them too much. I don't think once a week is a big deal. You might want to increase it to 2 times a week after he doesn't cry so much. When a baby starts to crawl then you will want to give him a bath more often because they are more dirty by the end of the day.

I usually give my daughter a bath every other day or every 2 days, but I'm a germ freak. Plus she spits up a lot and boes to the bathroom when I'm changing her so it gets all down her back--so I really only do it because she needs it. If he doesn't need it like my daughter does you're probably fine.
