How to treat a rash around my baby's mouth

My son (turning 3 in another month) randomly got what appeared to be a rash on his face right next to both corners of his mouth a few weeks ago. We would bathe him every night before bed, pat it dry with a towel and it started getting better but then it would come back. I started using a hydrocortizone (1%) cream after he brushed his teeth, right before he went to bed. I make sure the area is clean and dry, then put just a dab over the rash. It creates a barrier and allows the skin to heal. His cleared up within a few days and looks fine now :)

I have a 2 year old who seems to keep getting a rash around his mouth.After speacking to his pediatrician I was told it started out as just a simple rash and hge picked at it,Im still not understanding what it is now.He was givin a medicine that was suppose to clear it up but it looks like we will be back at the doctors office sooner then we planed.

Raven also has this rash and i just remembered that my daughter Anwynn had it when she was about the same age and i think some pure Vasaline did the trick.I also think it can be the cause of teething.(is it just my immagination or are all September 2010 babies slow with teething???)Raven is 12months old and only has 4 teeth.By the age of 12months my eldest son and daughter had a whole mouth full of teeth

Hi Stacie, I have used Pawpaw ointment with great success on Kira's mouth rashes. I read some of the other replies and was very surprised at the number of babies being prescribed steroids for the face. Here, in australia, we need government permission as it is a very dangerous practise to apply steroids to such delicate skin. Hope things clear up soon

My son had the same rash while teething. Isn't it awful? I found the best way to get the rash to go away was to put an aloe lotion on the rash, it helped almost immediately. After the rash has cleared up and he is still drooling what I did was patted his little mouth and chin dry and put a layer of vasoline on it to keep the moisture away from the skin around his mouth. My son has a rash under his chin which I have been told is from drooling. I have been told that a rash around the mouth is a sign of allergy to eggs. But if there are little pimples on your bubs hands or foot you might want to consider hand, foot and mouth. We treat my son's rash with diaper cream or paw paw cream. Hope you get some progress soon.

try the vaseline first. start writing down everything your baby eats and looking for allergies. My baby got so called baby acne from dairy remember 50% or babies who have dairy allergies also have soy allergies. If its not from excessive drooling then narrow down your allergy list.

I've had the rashes around his mouth and I use a little bit of vaseline or chapstick and works great. Just from drool :)

When we first starting feeding benji solid foods he started to get a rash all over his body, i instantly thought it was allergic reaction but when we had him tested they said he had no known allergies. My doctor said that it was mostly like eczema so we got a prescription for a topical cream that cleared it away within a week. He now also has the rash on his face and i used the same cream believe it is a hydrocortazone topical and that seems to be working. He is on half formula half whole milk so the left overs sit on his face and in the drool.

Milk is in everything!!! I don't know if you have double checked all the foods you are feeding him, but that may have something to do with it!
Also, my son had a rash around his neck and nothing really helped until I bought a baby eczema lotion. It has worked wonders

Aiden has the same problem, it's the dribble, it does look sore sometimes but vaseline works a treat always clears it up for him. x x

Hello, my daughter has a rash on her cheeks around her mouth and her pediatrician said to use Aquaphor. He said its from drool also. The aquaphor seems to work if I can just keep it on her. She seems to always rub her face on something and wipes it off after I put it on. We mostly put it on at night.

my little man had it and my doctor had me put a small amount of hydrocortazone cream on it and it helped but I found triple paste cream(not for the diaper rash they sell a different kind) and it helped really fast.

When my daughter had this problem no perscription creams helped so i tried god ol' fashion Penaten cream. I put it on her(thick enough) then gave her a soother so she wouldn't be putting things in or around her mouth with the cream on there. I'd do this at night and it would be gone by morning - then by lunch it would start to come back and by supper it looked awful. We just kept of with the Penaten at bedtime everynight she had a rash, it lasted about a months time. Goodluck!

My daughter has a rash on her chin too, but I think its just from drooling and her milk that sits on her chin. I'm not really worried about it to much doesn't bother her and I know it will clear up

my daughter gets this alot, i put vaseline on it and it tends to clear it, it usually happens when she is teething.

my baby had this problem 3 months ago but my pediatricen told me that could be some problem with the iron in her body, so i gave her 15 drops of iron every morning with 9 drops of vitamin C. i put everything in some tea or water. The rash was gone in a few weeks.Good luck

Caleb has a rash right now on his cheeks and a little on his chin - he has a cold and is teething so I think it might be from extra drooling and the runny nose - I've been putting cream on and hope it will clear up with the cold......it's his 1st birthday next week and he has such lovely skin it would be a shame to have this rash for his birthday pictures!

We took Jackson to the allergist when he was about 10 months old..they tested him for about 10 different things..I was worried but he didn't cry...it doesn't hurt them at all..

my son has one right now actually in different patches. the dr said the same thing from drooling,milk etc. they gave us a steroid cream for it today so i will see if it helps

Our son has had a drool rash before, mostly on his chin. If it is from drooling, we put a bit of Vaseline on his chin as a moisture barrier and it would clear up. It would be something easy and safe to try. Good luck!
