My pediatrician gave me the go ahead today to begin feeding my son rice cereal for the first time. I went right home and tried. At first he just looked confused and spit out all of the cereal. He seemed to like the taste because he would open his mouth but he didn't swallow any...he just spit it all out. Has anyone experienced this? Or have any tips for me?

That's natural, he's just reacting the way he's supposed to when something weird goes in there!
My sons was on baby rice for a few weeks, and after a week or two break due to poorly tummy, he's back on it now. For the first few weeks (before the break) he always pushed it out with his tongue, but we found he did swallow the odd bit.
Once he gets used to eating he will stop pushing it out and happily swallow it, he's just adjusting to a completely new experience! Stick with plain baby rice for a week or two, and then slowly introduce a vegetable or fruit puree mixed in with the rice so he doesn't get overwhelmed with all the new flavours... well, that's what we did and it's working a treat!
