I took my child to his 6 month checkup yesterday. The dr. thought he looked pale and sent us in to get his hemaglobin checked. He is very low and they put him on iron supplements. Has anyone got any information on this or knows of any alternatives. Will just giving him iron rich foods help? His level was at 6.1 and later at the hospital it dropped to 5.6.

If your son needs the supplements I think he would need to eat a lot of iron rich foods to meet his needs. If you are breastfeeding you can also try to up your iron intake with supplements or foods as well. Be careful Iron is known to bind up a baby and cause constipation as well. Talk with the dr more and express your concerns or go get a second opinion from a baby nutritionist!
