My lb used to sleep through the night and is now waking up round about 2/3 wanting a full feed. Why is that? Is anyone else having this problem? Could it be a growth spurt or teething?

my 4 month old son was sleeping threw the night at about 8 or 9 weeks. now the past month or so he has been waking up anywhere from 1 to 4 times a night. Sometimes he is hungry but often times he will drink a few sips and fall back asleep. what is going on?

Hiya, My baby of just 5 months has started to do the same, just wake up at around 10pm. he use to sleep through from 7pm to 6.30pm. I found that if i did the Gina Ford feed at 10 he would then wake at 2. Although when he wakes now i give him a dummy and he goes straight back to sllep until 6.30, but i am wandering if I should give him some milk ?

Mine is almost 6 months old and has been waking at 3 too. Slept through the night at 3 weeks old. She is not hungry, she is just chatting in her crib. If I bring her in bed with me she is out like a light until 5:30 or 6. Not sure what to do with her, leave her there or cont. bringing her in with me and hope she out grows it. My son eventually did but he used to cry!

I am really stumped on what to do now. I tried giving my little baba cereal in the morning and then he had butternut and peaches just before his bath and then he had a full feed. He has been battling to fall asleep at night and he never used to. Then he is waking up almost every hour or every 2 hours during the night. ???????????????? What to do now?? Is anyone else having this problem? Any other suggestions?

My little boy was in the habit also of getting up durong the night looking for food. he would not eat anymore during the day and was content to fill up on a bottle at 4am. so i gave him water when he woke up one night, he didn't like it but he did eventually settle. had to do this for about three night and then he finally got the message to eat more during the day and now sleeps all night. i hope this helps. it does feel awful and he did cry and scream but it did work and now he is sleeping all night.
another thing that may be wrong is wind or gripe. especially if you are giving solids before bed. some people would say not to give solids 4 hours before sleeping.

Thanks so much. Unfortunatly I think I have started that habit already. Going to try giving him some butternut tomorrow night. Will see how that works.

I have heard that they sometimes regress at this age and have heard you should not feed them in the middle of th night or it will set up a bad habit. Maybe he needs more to eat during the day. He looks adorable

Well, I tried cutting the feeding back, tried the pacifier, and none of it worked. A friend mentioned ferberizng my baby, so I goggled it. And well, it worked. I am sleeping once again at night - yeah! The first night I tried ferberizing my baby, he cried from 3-5am. IT was hard. Harder for my husband, The next night, he woke up at 3am, and settled back to sleep, then screamed from 4-5:15am. The third night, he slept for 13 hours. The fourth night, he woke at 4am, and I was too tired to let him cry it out, so I fed my baby. He slept through the 5th night. Since then, he goes to bed at 8pm, sometimes he wakes up between 11-midnight, and I give him one bottle, then it is straight back to bed for him. Then he sleeps til 7am. Ofcourse, I still have the occasional 13 hour sleepy baby. I am in heaven now! Try Ferberizing. It worked for me.

My son has always been a good sleeper. The bottom two teeth are in with not much night time disturbance, however the top ones have him up more often and hungry more often because it hurts too much to feed for long periods. It could be a combination of growth and teeth.

My pediatrician had always told me that putting rice cereal in the bottle is not good for the little one. Cambria, my daughter wakes up on occasion around that time, and does eat. I think she is getting a growth spurt, and she also has two little teeth. One of my co-workers had told me to look into night terrors for a possible cause. I have tried swaddling, white noise, and a night light. seems to work for the most part, but not for all nights.

Its problem the 4 month regression. I just found out about it. Apparently when they are troubled with a current milestone to accomplish they will have restless sleep. Similar to adults when they are worried about something. Take a look at the book The Wonder Weeks.. it explains it all, and tactics on how to deal with it. This seems to also happen when they are getting ready to crawl and walk.

My son went through a spurt of waking up 3 times a night after sleeping through the night most nights (putting him to bed at 9ish and he would get up around 5:30ish). It seemed to be just after I started him on cereal as well. I moved his cereal to an hour before he goes to bed and nurse him right before he goes to bed. I also moved his bedtime to 7:30. He now wakes up at 2:30 and 5:45. I can handle getting up once with him- I struggle when it's more than once though. Good luck.

You guys are so lucky! My little boy has never slept through the night. I started him on cereal about a month ago and he still wakes up at least 3 times a night. I have no idea what to do about this!

My 4 1/2 month old started sleeping from 9-10pm - 8am around 10 weeks. Everything was going great until about 3 weeks ago. He goes to sleep religiously at 8pm but wakes up twice a night, around 1:30 and around 5. He doesn't want to eat, he's just awake. I tried giving him cereal before bed but it doesnt help. He hasn't cut any teeth yet but he's showing all the signs so I am thinking they are on their way!

Me too! My little guy was sleeping 9 hours at three months, then at 4 months, he wakes up at midnight, 3 am, 6 am, wanting to be fed again. He won't take a pacifier, so that doesn't work. I breast feed him. Then it became a sucking thing where he wasn't drinking. Now he just turned 5 months. He is still not sleeping. I want to breast feed him, its easier, but I am tired. He gets solids in the AM and once again in the PM. He just loves it, but it doesn't keep him sleeping. Will try a bottle of formula as his last feeding, Hope it will work! Good luck with your babies!

been there. I found Lily was getting hungry (and harder to put down at night!) Ended up being that I didn't have enough milk for her, quick enough so she'd wake in the night for a feed. After switching for forumla she now gets enough that she goes down quicker - ie if she's had enough she'll roll over and goes to sleep as soon as she hits the mattress, and sleeps through the night again.
Not saying it is a forumla over breast milk issue - just that she wasn't getting enough from me.

This happened to me, so i started him on solids! Back to sleeping through the night again now :)
I introduced one meal per day until he started waking again, when i increased to 2 meals per day until he started waking again. Now he's on 4 meals a day and hasn't woken again :) Hope this helps!!

My girl was sleeping through from 7 weeks. She now wakes once or twice a night. She has been doing this for about a month, about the time she has started teething. I'm not sure if it is a comfort thing. she is much more aware of her surroundings now so when she wakes up in her sleep she know where she is and that I am not there. I have started to up my water intake, and she has only been feeding once a night now. Are you formula or breast feeding? if breast, how is your diet and if bottle do you give your babe sips of water during the day?

My son used to sleep through the night and now is back to waking up every three hours...from what I have read this is the time for a growth spurt so that's what I'm guessing it is. I plan on talking to our doctor about possibly starting him on rice cereal soon. Good luck to you

what I do with dominick is make him a bottle of only 5 or 6 oz. and by the time hes done with it hes sound asleep. And now that your giving your baby rice cereal he needs to eat more. What Ive learned is that I give Dom a bowl of oatmeal (in your case rice cereal) right before he goes to bed. It will help him sleep longer.

He has his two bottom teeth but he never acted like this when he was teething with them. I started him on rice cereal last Friday and he has been waking up ever since. Not sure if there is a connection at all or if it is just a coincident. Really hope he starts sleeping through again soon.
