Both of my girls get this redness under their neck fat, it always looks a little grimy. I also noticed occasionally that they have the same grimy stuff under their arm pits. We've tried wiping it down and putting aquaphor on it, any ideas? anyone experienced something similar?

my daughter has that. the doctor said its a yeast infection and told us to put antifungal cream (like for athletes foot) cuz yeast is a fungus and to keep it dry. cleared up in 2 days.

talc powder works with my little girl, the wetter it gets the worse it gets and the talc helps it stay clean and dry x

Same problem here! Terrible redness I've tried to keep her extra clean and dry, but it's sooo red! and bumpy and looks painful. Her ped looked for yeast in her neck once, I guess I should call and tell them she may have a problem. She will cry and cry and cry lately and I think it's because it hurts. :(

Thanks for asking this question :) It answered my own

Just use the creams used for diaper rash, they worked on my son.

Just a quick suggestion about powders.......I LOVE Huggies liquid baby powder. It goes on as liquid but dries to powder.......no inhalation risks! :)

HI Jenna

My little girl experiences the same. Her problem is she is a big spewer or has big vomits and it pools under her neck. This looks grimy. Also under her arms, when you don't wipe them properly or from hot sweaty days. I used talcolm powder to help dry up and if it gets too bad i use a dermatitis or similar cream (like the nappy rash cream) to help clear it up as it becomes a fungal infection. I hope this helps.

I just clean it everyday to make sure that she doesn't have formula and spit up in it.

when my son was born his right arm was broken to get him out and he also had a brachial plexus injury to his left arm therefore he was in the NICU for a week with both arms pinned in place in front of his chest. The nurses in the NICU noticed he was getting stinky and grimy in his armpits and they couldnt move his arms much to clean it so the doctors prescribed an anti-fungal powder called nyactin to keep it dry and free from bacteria. It worked great and once he was able to move his arms again it all went away.

I have found that keeping the skin as dry as possible is really important. You have to make really sure to dry properly after bath time. I live in South America where it is 35 degs centigrade at the moment therefore sweaty! Our paediatrician recommended not to use talc because of the perfumes etc and the fact that it balls up, but rather to use maizena or corn flour, it is natural, no colours no additives no perfumes etc keeps the area dry and is readily available in all supermarkets, is cheap and works!! OUr bbaby has never had any type of nappy rash, and we have been using this since we left the hospital. Are babies generally allergic to corn flour? Perhaps this is a good alternative to those who have wheat allergies?

My baby also experienced the same thing, her pediatrician said that it was YEAST and prescribed her a cream to get rid of it. I was to apply the cream three times a day, but it has steroids in it so I applied it only twice a day, under her neck and underarms. The bad thing about the medicine was it has a bad odor. The yeast has since cleared; but remember to keep those areas very dry and try to not put so much clothing on them their body temperature is different from ours.

I think almost anything will work as long as its kept clean. i find that to be a pattern- clean and dry...creams and the vaseline help it from rubbing together creating a barrier of protection preventing further irritation allowing faster healing.

I have learned that when feeding mine, I place a cloth diaper under her chin, it helps catch the milk before it goes into the crevace. When I have forgotten to use it, I have had to use diaper rash cream on her neck. IT was gone the next day.

My boys doctor actually prescribed a cream for it. It's yeast b/c that area is hard to keep dry. He also had it under his arms. I just had to wipe the area, dry it and then apply the creams 2-3 times a day.

sounds lik a yeast infection. my sweetie had a rash like that and the doc gave me some cream. cleared up in a day or so.. no more problems with it. doc said it's caused by excess wetness... keep the areas dry that's all (aquaphor made it worse)

My niece got yeast infection in her neck fat when she was a baby. We had to watch it close and clean it often. We even had to put the yeast infection cream on it.

Sorry I realise I should have been a bit more specific. I don't just puff it on. I put I bit on a tissue and rub it on with my finger tip. I know the dust cloud created by powder is not good so I try to minimise it as much as possible by putting it onto the tissue away from my baby and apply small amounts, curash is a dense powder and rubs on much like a cream. I tried various creams and found they made it worse as it remained to wet. Haven't tried vasoline Karolina so I'll give that a go.

I find that with my little guy I wash the area(s) with a warm washcloth everyday even in between baths just throughout the day... always check to make sure the area is clean and dry even if that means changing their little clothes/bibs often b.c they drool/spit up .. and just slathering on a good coat of Vaseline works... Vaseline works in a way that it allows the skin to heal on its own but protects it from allowing further bacteria and air particles to enter the area. However I also don't use your traditional vaseline rather the petroleum free one by 'live clean (baby)'- 98% organic ingredients. powders are unhealthy for children and adult respiratory systems and hospitals don't use them anymore and inform all new parents to stay away as well. i hope that gives you some more options. good luck.

Yeh both my daughters had that problem, I found powder was the best thing, especailly curash nappy rash powder. The powder absorbs the wetness and the added zinc clears the redness. I put some on after every bath or when it gets really mucky. Always worked.

Use Sudocrem :). Works the same as it does with nappy rash. Reduces the redness and the pain (if any). I used it on my son's armpits and also his neck. Its could be because a little damp is left under the skin folds after a bath or dribble.
