Serving Formula Cold?

Does anybody else do this? I have always warmed my daughter's bottles, but this last weekend we were on a camping trip and it just kinda made sense to give it to her cold, I wouldn't want to drink warm or lukewarm liquids on a hot day. She hasn't been spitting up as much as she normally does, actually feedings have been going a lot better since I started doing that. Just wondering if anyone else gives their babies cold formula, or if that's bad and I shouldn't be doing it. I read the instructions on the can of formula anit doesn't say anything about it. Any help appreciated!

On the few occasions I have given my son cold formula he has thrown it all up. I now warm it up - not too hot, just enough to take the chill off.

I warm my daughter bottles up I don't give it room temp or cold mainly because she is rotten as can be and she will take the cold bottle like she wants it sucks on it and then lets all of the formula run out of her month all over her. Giving her the cold just not worth the mess she makes. If I give her juice I have to warm that up to at least room temp. or she will do the same thing.

I had never heart of giving babies cold formula but a girlfriend of mine who is actually younger than me has a daughter older than mine and she told that she did it too so i guess to each his own if your baby is hungry enough i think cold or hot they WILL drink it.

My Son's pediatrician actually advises to sometimes serve them their formula cold. It gets them ready for when they are off the bottle or if you put formula in there sippy cup. My little guy loves it

I've always given my baby formula cold/room temperature. I pour the water from the faucet and mix in the formula. I've never had a problem.

I have two children and both of which have always had cold bottles. They never spit up, and even while in the hospital with after having them, I had the ready to use bottles from the hospital and they were cold too. I didn't see anything wrong with it, and to this day I still don't. Neither does my daughter who is going on 9 months now (with cold bottles)!!

I've always given my daughter her formula cold. I was told by doctor's and nurses not to warm it for some reason that now I cannot remember why (something to do with it loses nutrients or some sort). She doesn't seem to mind cold...I tried warming it once, and she refused it. So, it's been cold ever since! :)

I have never heated my sons formula although he take Nutramigen and your not supposed to. I don't heat anything he eats, he likes his baby food room temp and his bottles not heated...otherwise he makes a face and wont eat :)) theres no harm in it, its pretty much just there preference :))

I lucked out with my little guy. He has no preference on whether his bottle is warm, room temp. or chilled. In the beginning i wasted time warming all his bottles but after reading that there is no reason other than baby's preference to warm bottles I started serving them to him cold or room temp. It definately makes it much easier for little outtings when your baby doesnt care if their bottle is room temp or chilled!

I started serving my baby her formula at room temperature since she was 6 months old. I am using a distilled water that does'nt require boiling. We travel a lot thats why she is not used to warm milk. I can't see any bad effects on her. So if she is fine then continue.

I also started serving my daughter formula at room temperature since she was 4 months old. Until and unless the water is boiled there is no problem. We travel and go out a lot so it was not feasible to always heat the formula...and but of course my daughter takes it. Sometimes when am at home try to give her lukewarm formula as well and she takes it. So if the child is taking it ....good for you..you can travel without worrying :-)...God bless

ive pretty much always gave her formula room temp, never had a problem. Makes it easier if you are out and about and have to give a bottle and no way to warm it. Thought I would get her use to it right away since I knew we would be camping and outdoors alot. I started formula feeding at 7 months.

My daughter will only drink her formula cold. If it is luke warm she will refuse it. She was been this way with her formula since she was about 4 months old. We never had a problem with upset stomachs or anything.

I have given my son connor formula at room temp since he was born. That is how he was given it at the hospital. If I have bottle in the fridge he will drink it cold. I had tried warming the bottles at one point but he was spitting up a lot. He just seems to do better with the cold formula. My philosphy is that I do whatever works best, I'm not a real follower of the rules because afterall every baby is different.

I have always served it cold since baby was born. Some people say that it can make their stomach hurt if it is cold or kinda shock their stomach but my baby doesn't seem to have a probale with it. He is now 9 months and doing fine with the cold formula!

I used to serve it lukewarm, but I started serving it cold, and Jasmine didn't mind. It's so much easier! Plus, it's supposed to be a little bit of a relief for when they are teething. There's no difference either way, if it's served cold or warm, whatever the baby prefers!

Heating formula is a taste.preference issue not a health safety issue. My daughter has always taken her formula at room temperature, no problems with cramps at all.

Hi :) I have been giving my daughter her formula cool or cold more often than not since the weather has gotten so hot. I think the main concern, as I understand it is, that baby's belly can cramp up from the cold milk, but that this is more concerning with young babies rather than older ones. I have had several mom friends say that they started cool or cold milk at 6-8 months. I have given my B a bottle here and there that was cold from being pre-made and in the cooler when out shopping all day before it got war/hot out, and she was around 6, 7 months... and she seemed fine with it. I think you would know if it were a prob for your LO ;) So just let her be your guide on this one. JMO :)

I don't give my son warm bottles I only warm up his bottles maybe if he is a little cranky and doesn't want to sleep just to relax him
. There is nothing wrong giving you baby a cold bottle just as long as your little one is ok with it.

My son is 9 months old and he will drink them cool but not cold. I made that mistake the other day. Little burger wouldn't drink it AT ALL because it was too cold for him. I ended up having to dump it out and make another bottle. We were out at the mall and in certain bathrooms of our mall you can't get very warm water.

Dont worry about it please! I believe babies need variety, i have always tried to encourage luke-warm and cold feeds. I truely think that a spectrum of alternatives and differences give your baby a bigger chance of accepting a wider variety of foods/drinks. I adopted this with my older child who is now nearly five and she will try everything and anything and is curious of all.Best of luck, if your daughter will drink cold formula, then well done you!!!x

I think the recommendation now IS to give room temperature bottles and that is what we have always done with our daughter. She has never had any trouble eating them at that temperature.

I don't think it's a problem. My daughter (Jan 09) preferred cold formula which my mother thought was terrible until she observed the difference when Little Miss was offered warm v cold. Strangely though she prefers her juice warm..go figure!? My son (Sep 09) is still 95% breastfed in spite of my efforts to introduce solids and offer EBM in bottles or sippy cups.

I definitely see a difference as far as how it sits on her tummy, when drinkin cold, she also drinks it slower. Seems to sit yukky, she spits up more... just my experience.
Nice to know that it's ok though...

It doesn't matter at whether you serve it hot or cold. Its really just the baby's preference. And cold probably does seem really nice when its really warm outside.

I never give my twins warm milk, i always put the bottle in cold water after preparing it so that the milk gets cold ''not too cold'' and then i feed the baby. I have also heard that if you feed the baby with warm milk they alway spit.

All iv have been told is that u have to make the formula up with warm water - my 9 month old now will NOT drink formula unless its cold and he is sat in his highchair - have no idea why but this is the only way i can get him to drink it! if your little girl is happy, i wouldnt worry!

I just serve it room temp or whatever the tap is at, lol at night some times I'll make it warm. usually moms serve young babies warm milk because it's soothing and will put the baby to sleep.

I have given my daughter room temperature formula since she was 6 months she is now 8 1/2 months. I make the bottles up with boiling water every evening & leave on the side to cool & then add the formula when she wants a drink. I started doing it as it was easier for when we went out as I don't need to take a flask of boiling water with me now.

It's not bad. Most babies, especially when they're newborn, don't like their formula cold, and so it becomes a habit to always warm them. I've known a number of moms who quit warming their baby's bottles once they started them on solid foods.

Hello! My daughter is 8 months (born Sept 25th) I just noticed that she is liking her formula alittle cooler now!! I sometimes warm it alittle so it is not so cold esp at night. But during the day esp when it is hot out I just let her drink it cold and she enjoys it!!

I stopped warming formula after a few weeks. Once she started eating more it was just more convenient to make some and keep it in the fridge. She was too impatient to wait for it to warm up so we started just giving it too her out of the fridge. She never had a problem with it being cold. She's 9 months old now and I will make up 18 oz at a time and keep it in rubbermade container or fill a few bottles for later. It makes feeding time quick as she gets upset if she has to wait too long for her bottle. She does prefer warm food over cold, inless its yogurt. But so do I ;)

my doc told me it doesn't matter, warm or cold. i wish my baby would have the same opinion though, as he will not eat if it isn't warm! i know have to bring a thermos of hot water with me wherever i go so i can ensure he will eat! on one of my first outings, before the thermos, we went to the zoo and i intended on heating his bottle in a cup of hot water i would get from the snack bar. but... the zoo (all of hollywood actually) lost power and i couldn't find hot water anywhere! he went HOURS without eating, but still refused until it was warmed just right! such a stinker :)

I don't think there is any problem giving formula cold if a baby is fine with it. Only problem I've found with water that is too cold is that the formula I use (NAN Ha gold 2) doesnt mix very well in cold water. It goes lumpy so I always use room temp water or warm water.

My son is 8 months old now. I sometimes would have it warm and sometimes not. Mostly when he was 1st born but now not as often. He takes it room temp, cold or warm. Having his bedtime bottle a little warm is usually what I do now. With teething- they do like it cool sometimes because it feels good on the gums. I don't think there is a right or wrong way..just what works for you:)

Accidentally forget a bottle of water one day, and had to use the half frozen emergency jug in our car. It was so cold the formula didnt even want to mix. Other then that fridged goof, we have served Sammach anything from warm to cold. She seems to prefer it alittle cooler then room temp.
