My little boy is almost 7 months now (on the 29th) and we started his weaning at around 5 months, but he seems to eat sooo much solids I'm worried I am over feeding him? Although he would eat more if I let him! Also he doesn't seem to want much milk anymore, I really have to perservere to get him to drink any! This is his food/milk intake for the day, is it too much?:

7/8am - Wake; 5oz bottle and breakfast, usually 2/3tbls of porridge with one jar fruit.

12 - 4oz bottle

1230 - Lunch which is usually half jar of baby food (meat/veg) and one jar of fruit for dessert.

4 - 4oz bottle

630 - Dinner which is usually half jar - whole jar of baby food (meat/veg) and one jar of fruit for dessert.

730 - 5oz bottle and bed.

He still has a bottle during the night too; he is a nightmare when it comes to sleep I'm really at a loss as how to get him to sleep through the night. And his naps during the day were terrible too alrhough today he has taken an hour in the morning and two & a half this afternoon - which is a MIRACLE (he used to only take 45 min cat naps a few times a day and was always grumpy, and would also NEVER settle himself, he had to be rocked) Today he put himself to sleep both times. :))))) put him in his cot and didnt hear a peep from him :)

He was also really tiny when born (4lb 5oz) though he is now a chunky 14lb bless him.

It should be ok, I'm sure they wont eat too much more than they should. especially if his weight is fine. It makes me wonder if I;m giving my boy enough, I have never given a full jar of anything yet, just started half of them recently. But every child is different. ♥

My daughter, Adeline, was born 9/24 and is a tiny little thing now....she is only 13lbs 4 oz. She is really active, but she just isnt putting on any weight, the doctor actually told me that I need to start having her get most of her nutrients from food, rather than breastmilk. He said he normally doesnt suggest this, but in the last 4 months shes gained only about 2 1/2 lbs. So I would just check with your doctor, but your baby seems to be eating a healthy amount!
Adelines food every day is like this
6:30am finger foods for about 10 min- bits of fruit, cheerios, puffs etc, then 1-2 tbsp of fruit, and 2-4 tbsp of cereal.
8am- she nurses for only about 10 minutes and is ready for a nap
11am- lunch time! finger foods again, fruit, cereal, veggies, then 1-3 tbsp of fruits or veggies, and 2-4 tbsp of cereal.
around 12:30 she nurses for about 10 minutes again
around 3 or 330 she nurses for about 10-15 minutes
5:30 or 6 dinner time! veggies or ceral for finger foods, then 1-3 of veggies and 2-4 of cereal.
After getting her ready for bed she nurses again for oly about 5-7 minutes. She does wake up at night, shes been awful too, and Ill nurse her one time usually around midnight, for about 15 minutes.
Hope this helps!

I wouldn't worry about over feeding him my little boy is exactly the same, he started refusing his bottles and just wanted his solids, so i make things with his formula to make sure he's still getting all the good stuff.
His routine is
8am 5 oz formula in caffeine free tea and 4 tbsp wholemeal porridge
12.30 equivalent 1 jar baby food and a petit filou, but home made, half a sippy cup water
5pm again he same amont of mushed up food, and home made rice pudding, which i use 1 tsp baby rice to 2 oz formula and tsp fruit pure
7pm 7oz good night formula which is a thicker milk for them to go to bed on.

Hope it helps. As soon as i started Aiden on that routine he started sleeping through the nights and has 2 naps in the day which are usually about 45 mins to an hour. x x

Thanks :) Katie, in reply to what you said about the 3 x 8oz bottles a day (24oz a day). All in all incl a dreamfeed at 10pm of 6oz and a nightfeed at around 3am of 6oz also he has about 30oz in a 24 hour period soon. I think its the amount of milk in one go thats a problem for him, he has never really been a big milk drinker, never taken more than 6oz per bottle even before he started solids. So desperate to drop that night feed though. Yr so lucky yr little one sleeps an 11 hours straight, thats a miracle to me :) Oh and he does also have his bottle BEFORE his solids also. He will refuse it fullstop if its afterwards. Thanks for all your help :)

Hi, wow what a tiny baby, great that he loves food now!!!

but yes, I think you are giving too many solids, and his tummy stays fuller for longer digesting all the food, so he would refuse bottle because it would make him over ful and sick, so at the lunch time feeding, only give say fruit or a baby yoghurt or a piece of banana and a rusk, just something to taste really, not to fill up... Milk should still be the primary source of nutrients at this age, and he may seem "hungry for more" but he is enjoying the taste and the experience and at this age, they struggle to use the "stop" button!

with my little girl (born 14/09) she is still breast and bottle fed, depending on where we are/her mood/how long she has slept etc... but this is her routine, same every day (usually)

6am -wakes after 11 hr sleep, has a boobie.
8am -150ml bottle and a little bit of boobie till asleep
10am ish - has "breakfast" baby musli, some yoghurt or fruit..

play, then we go out, either shopping, park, walk, visit nana etc...

12ish - 150ml bottle, and is often awake while we are out till
2ish - falls asleep in the car, and i transfer her to her bed. she'll sleep for 2 plus hours
3-4 - boobie when she wakes up, little snack - fruit, rusk etc,
sometimes needs another bottle after snack and play
5-5.30 - dinner- home made steamed veggies, and either some chicken or mince or quinoa, some rice or pasta or baby rice
6.00-7pm- bath, play, boobie, bed. doesn't wake during night...

I always get her to sleep at the same time each day, if we are at home she needs cuddles to sleep, if out she will fall asleep in pram or in car, or in her sling...

If your baby is bottle fed, he should be having up to 8oz of milk 3 times a day, so once he's awake, sometime during lunch, then bedtime at night... always offer milk BEFORE solids, as the milk is far more important that food, offer him smaller meals more often perhaps, but he does need more milk than food :) hope that helps.

My son is the total opposite. He doesn't like solids very much but looooves his bottle. He's so stubborn, he refuses to open his mouth for solid foods. I dread mealtime but I keep trying! I feel like I'm wasting so much money on his solids that I just throw out.

I don't think that's too much food. As long as he's gaining weight normally, I wouldn't worry! I would try to up his milk though, I've read that for the first year, solid food is really only a compliment to breastmilk or formula, and that the "milk" really needs to be the major supplier of calories during the year. My Miles was born on 9/18 and last week weighed 17lbs 7 oz. This is a sample of our day of food.

7am breastfeed

8.15a 1/2 jar fruit and 3Tbs baby oatmeal

10.30a breastfeed

12.15p 1/2 jar veggie and a couple spoonfuls of baby meat

1.30p breastfeed

3.30p snack - rice cake, or biter biscuit, or yogurt or 1/2 jar of fruit

4.30p breastfeed

5.15p 3Tbs rice cereal, 1/2 jar veggies, and a couple spoons of baby meat

7p breastfeed

Sometimes there's an extra breastfeeding in there, and my times are never exact due to naps, or whatever. As for your little munchkin, I think you've done a great job getting his weight up and I won't worry at all. (: I would probably just try to up his milk as much as possible. Since mine is breastfed, I don't really know how much formula yours would need, but I'm sure you could find recommendations on the website for the brand that you use. Good luck!
