When and how did you start feeding your September baby

I started my baby on rice cereal a month ago, I just started giving her some applesauce and other kinds of baby food. My mom said "who told you to do that"? I said the doc said I could. My Lilly seems to live veggies more then fruit, my mom said that I shouldn't be giving her veggies and that I should start with fruit. I don't live with my mom and I am married, just so you know. I keep wondering if I should have waited to give Lilly anything until she was 6 months old, but I don't know. Also I do not know when and how much to give my baby! I was only giving her rice cereal right before bed, bc it helped her sleep better, I just started giving her a fruit in the morning or a veggie for lunch, but haven't done both just because of allergies. How should I go about introducing food to her? and do you think I did it to soon?

Every baby is different...there is no set way to feed babies. Some moms introduce cereals sooner than others, but it all depends on your baby. I have 3 kids, my youngest being 5mos. He started on cereal at 3mos. Just a little dab in his bottle to hold him a little longer because he wanted to eat every hour! And I was giving him 4-5oz. At 4mos, I began giving him veggies once a day and now I've replace a 4oz bottle in the morning with about 2tbsn of oatmeal cereal that I mix with bananas and formula in a bowl. I do the samething for lunch, replaced with a veggie. This is the time when I'll began slowly introducing him to fresh mashed potatoes, yams and other veggies I can puree for him...
This is the time when your baby begins to communicate if he's full and happy or not. Have fun!

Honestly, if you are nervous or worried it doesn't hurt to put in a call to your doctor's office and ask them what you should be doing. But this is what I have done:

I have gone by what was advised by my son's doctor. He was started on cereal at 4 months because he's a little piglet. 1 tbsp at dinner time to start and then was increased to 1 tbsp at breakfast and 2 tbsp at dinner time when no difference in appetite was found with just 1 tbsp on night.

At his 6 month appointment I was told I can start him with about 2 tbsp of yellow veggies first (carrots, sweet potatoes and squash) at lunch time, then the green veggies and then move into the fruits. All should be introduced for no less than 3 days to ensure no allergies to the veggies and fruits. If there is a known allergy in your family you should avoid introducing it until they are a year old. For example, I am allergic to strawberries so my poor little boy cannot have them until he's a year old and watched closely when I do give it to him for the first time. Once, all have been introduced you can mix and match and give fruit with their cereal, a couple of veggies or a veggie and a fruit at lunch time.

I was also told that if I am going to make my own baby food any veggie that grows in the ground (ex: carrots, sweet potatoes) you need to use organic because the regular ones contain nitrates. I looked it up and it said that there is probably a 0% chance of the baby getting nitrate poisoning from them but after being told by my doctor this I still wouldn't want to chance it. I know, I am probably overly paranoid, but I rather be safe than sorry.

Istarted Brooke out on cereal at 4 months old per the doctor. After she was good with the spoon and cereal I began with fruits and veggies one at a time spread about a week apart for allergy reasons. But she enjoys both now. She def loves green beans though.

I just started my baby on cereal, fruit and veggies. My dr said to just introduce about a tablespoon at a time and if they do good increase it to 2 tablespoons. I did it cuz she would scream and cry every time she saw the rest of the family eating. As long as your baby is not pushing it out with their tongue then it is probably the right time to start. At least thats what the doc said. Hope this helps.

I saw a nutritionalist for my son when we started him on solids (he's 2 now) and she suggested starting with veggies, so we did. We did veggies, fruit, cereal, then meats. I waited until 5.5 months for my son and 6 months for my daughter. Their digestive systems just aren't mature enough when they are younger and breastmilk/formula is way easier for them to digest.

I just started mine on rice cereal @ 5 1/2 mos. We're going real slow to help his digestion system get used to solid so as not to constipate him...so he started 1T cereal 1x/dy for a wk, now he's doing 2T/dy breakfast & diner. He'll be 6 mos soon so I'll continue giving him his cereal 2x/dy (prob increase the amt I give him...) & vegetable @ lunch. I was thinking once he's on the ball of eating his diet will look something like: Breakfast: cereal & fruit, Lunch: vegeatble & cereal maybe? Diner: meat & vegetable. You're supposed to give them a food for a week and note any digestion changes, crankiness, skin changes and then you should know... Some foods could give them gas (crankiness), skin rashes... if you're not sure which one it is you cut an item out and see if it gets better...

We started our first born out on vegetables @ 4 mos. If your baby is thriving then I wouldn't worry about timing of feeding her...they say between 4-6mos so I'm sure you're fine. Everything I read or hear says to start baby out on vegetables because it'll help them stick to them when they are older...this of course did not hold true for my 1st born, but we'll see??? My doctor said that babies usually like fruits because they are sweet, but again, we want them to like their veggies so get them used to them early.

I started my Bella on cereal when she was four months, and she really didn't care for it too much. I started her on baby food about 4 1/2 months, and she was just like your baby, she likes the veggies not the fruits. She's about 5 1/2 months and she still prefers veggies.

I just started to feed caden fruits, but i started the cereal when he was 5 months old to help him sleep too. The way my dr told me to introduce him to solids is to do it one week at a time (to watch for any signs of food allergies) and to start with fruits and then work into veggies, and to do the meats last. (closer to 9 months) I would just talk to the dr and see what they have to say.
