Anyone ever had a membrane sweep?

Hi

I'm 37 weeks pregnant (due July 21) and my midwife has told me me I will be getting a "stretch and sweep" on my next appointment. My first was a big baby (9lbs), so I think that's why we're doing this so early. I never asked how effective it was, or when I should go into labour. She also said it was quite painful. Anyone know anything about it??

I had mine done on a tuesday morning and on Thursday my water broke. Not sure if the sweep had anything to do with that or not.
It seemed very painful to me and I bled quite a bit after it, but never got any contractions from it.

I just went through this on July 7, 2010. I had my baby 12 hours later. it was a little painful, but not that bad.

I had mine done yesterday morning and still nothing. I am 4 1/2 dialated and baby is engaged, and had bloody show last night so hopefully these contractions start soon! I am due on Tuesday so.... Good luck with, it was not very painful to me but was crampy last night.

Had it done yesterday as I was due on the 17th with 2nd bub but he has decided he doesn't wanna move yet lol. Didn't hurt that much have heard inductions are worse. today my plug finally came out but still no contractions yet so hopefully tonight or tomorrow something will happen for us. Am booked for an induction Monday just in case and some stretch n sweeps don't work at all so I have been told. Hope all goes well for you and hope bubs comes sooner then mine has haha

My mom got her membranes swept many times (she had 8 kids). I've heard that its slightly painful, but I imagine that it will be worth it, considering it is a very natural way to go into labor. I am due July 26th and I wish my midwife was ready to kick start my labor. If I were you I'd just have an open mind and see if it works. Good Luck!!!
