Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone else thinks they are having Braxton Hicks already? This is my second pregnancy and i had them with my first from around 20 weeks although they had no pain with them just the tightening of the tummy. The last few days however i have had a cramping/contraction feeling in my abdomen and it is extremely firm to touch. Anyone else having the same thing? i'm only 14 weeks!

I never had them with my first (this is also my second), but I have been having them with this one a lot. I didn't recognize them at first, but I think they probably starting around 20 weeks or earlier.

This is my first pregnancy.. I felt the menstral like braxton hicks around 16 or 17ish weeks? I thought I was going nuts lol. At 10 weeks (Around the time i should of had my period) I felt like if i stood up that I would just gush. But I suppose its just your body working its magic and rearranging things. If your really worried, just talk to your doctor or midwife. You can always call telehealth 1 866 797 0000

Yes...I'm 37 weeks though! I have felt them for a few weeks at least, although come to think of it I've really been feeling them since week 21. They're starting to get much stronger, though.

Oh, u would know. Ur belly gets really tight & usually your baby starts squirming because they don't like it too much. Maybe urs aren't that strong enough yet, that's why they're not noticeable.

Oddly enough, I don't think I've ever had them. None that I've noticed at least.

It can happen that early, but since this is my 6th pregnancy, I didn't notice them until around my 6th month. If they are not painful, you have no watery or bloody discharge and are not regular in rhythm, there is no need to worry.

I am 33 weeks and have been having them for over a month now. It usually is due to my not drinking enough, not putting my feet up after work, or just being involved in heavy walking or rapid activity. That usually brings it on for me. 14 weeks is early though, I would talk to my doctor.

in all pregnancies women begin having BHs around 6 weeks - although odds are you can not feel them at the time. Most women begin to notice them at about the halfway point. As long as they're not actually painful (just uncomfortable) and you're not having multiple ones in a hour and they stay sporadic there shouldn't be anything to worry about. (unless accompanied by signs of preterm labor).
i have found that drinking plenty of water and lying on my side helps a lot. don't ever hesitate to call your doc if you think something isn't right. good luck :)

i have been having them for the last week and a half now and for me its an intense sensation on my pelic floor or it feels like its in my vagina , also very sharp and i just figured that it shouldnt be that sharp yet i mean the baby hasnt dropped yet but then again it is my first so i dont know that much about this whole thing , altough i do have the book "What to expect when your expecting" but even then , it doesnt tell you everything and i just dont know if it actually is BH or if its something more serious because some of my friends on facebook tell me that it shouldnt hurt like that till the baby drops atleast.. and im having them 3 or 4 times a day anywheres from a few seconds-2minutes so i dont knoww..
anybody got any input please ?!

I had them twice not in the same day it was once on a Friday and one on the following Monday. My doc said its due to dehydration, so drink up as much water as possible. My midwife suggests to drink 10 cups a day.

I am 29 weeks and have been having those since about 16 weeks even though now they are getting a bit more intense. This is my first and so they are freaking me out but I am told they are normal as long as you don't have too many. I would definitely call them uncomfortable because I don't think I would notice if they weren't. Speaking of which I am having one right now, they seem to come more often at night...so weird especially when I had no idea about what pregnancy would be like they whole experience has just been one new experience after another :)

Just reading through the responses and it looks like I responded to this 8 weeks ago, too funny I think I have some serious memory lapses to go along with all the other fun of pregnancy :)

I am 27 weeks and ive been having braxton hicks since i was 24 weeks, but the further along i go the more intense they are getting, we've been told this baby boy is big and i was told to expect more discomfort due to his size, i had them for only 3 weeks with my daughter who is now 2, i had forgotten how uncomfterble they can be if im honest.

Thanks for posting this! I have been having that same feeling and this being my first pregnancy everything that happens has been freaking me out, the tightening of my uterus and what I believe to be Braxton Hicks contractions just the latest. I am 21 Weeks and I am glad that others have had these. I am going to still let my Doctor know cause I had three of them today but I think I also need to really watch my water intake, I was reading today and it said that dehydration can add to them.

@ Cathy- I think, just like feeling movements, we know what to feel for. At least that might be part of it, anyway that is my theory

I didn't have any for my first and so far, none for my second.

Yes, with my first pregnacy, I didn't get BH contractions till I was like 6 months, but this time around, I think I started feeling them again when I was like 12 or 13 weeks (I'm 17 weeks now). Maybe you just get them a lot sooner the second time around...??

When I was pregnant with my first I started having those at 16 weeks, so yes I think that it is possible

I'm 16 weeks and I think over the past few days I've been feeling 'em! It's not the same as when I had them w/ my daughter when I was further along but feels like the exact same tightening feeling but very low, where my uterus is now. It def. doesn't hurt, just feels really tight!

I know what round ligament pain is. It is a sharp, stretching kind of feeling (for me) I haven't had those with this pregnancy. And I don't think that round ligament pain causes your uterus to feel hard and crampy.

Are you sure that this isn't round ligament pain? Which is pain from your uterus stretching. It seems odd that you'd be getting braxton hicks so early.

Hi I didn't notice any braxton hicks until after (well after) 20 weeks with my first also. And I just noticed the first ones yesterday, kind of a crampy uncomfortable feeling but definately didn't hurt. I was try to figure out why I wasn't 'feeling well' and then I remembered your post here and I was like ok I know what this is felt for my uterus and sure enough it was very hard. I was talking with my husband and I told him I was having a contraction LOL you should have seen the look on his face! Then I explained it was just a BH =)

Yes! I'll be 16 weeks tomorrow, and I've definitely had some BH already. Last night I was laying in bed and felt crampy, ran my hand across my stomach and I could feel my uterus as hard as a rock. I wouldn't say it hurt, but it certainly wasn't pleasant!
