My daughter used to be the same way! It was really difficult to deal with and I felt so bad for her. I changed her to Enfamil Gentlease formula. She continued to gain weight so I wasn't too worried but it was exhausting. She finally stopped out of the blue but I think it might have been the formula and me reading her cues a little bit better. Being a first time mom it was hard at first to distinguish her cries and I thought it was always from hunger. Make sure you are consistent with her feeding amount and times and don't always assume that because they are crying its because they are hungry. I realized she was just sleepy a lot of the times and since she didn't know how to put herself to sleep she would get really cranky. Good luck! I feel your pain and so glad it has passed.

my daughter was born July 1st and she spit up ALL the time i mean almost the whole bottle and i would burp her a lot so i took her in and the Dr said she had reflux and gave me medicine to protect her esophagus from her spiting up and then told me to add ONE teaspoon of rice ceral to every ounce in every bottle and since ive done that she only spits up a little he said she will probably still spit up some but not as much as she was and that she would out grow it i would try that!

stephen throws up a lot. as mlong as it's not projectile vomiting and if he's not in any pain it's normal. some babies throw up more than others but it'll get better, stephens 3 and a half months now and he doesn't throw up as much. it's usually because of a bubble of gas or he's just took more than he needs. if ya get worried take him to the docters. but it'll ease off by the time he's 6 months, his digestive system and stomach muscle will have improved a lot. xx

He might possibly have a milk allergy. I'd get him checked for that. My youngest son was born July 12th and spit up all the time. We brought him to a stomach specalitst and he suspects its either milk allergy or acid reflux.

Though since the new formula is helping it's probably a milk allergy.

I would talk to your Pedi about it to rule out Acid Reflux. Vomiting is a very common side effect of reflux.

My son does to, if hes still gaining weight then its NO big deal! if he gains weight then theres no problem! keep him sitting up for as long as you can after meals, burp him lots and lots during eating this helps, and if he will take a souther after try that the sucking motion helps to keep it down.

I would suggest trying Enfamil AR my two year old b/g twins needed that when they were babies. They spit up after every single meal, but it lessoned when we switched their formula. My almost three month old son ( born July 12th, 2010) was on Premium, but he was spitting up terribly. We tried Ar for him but it didn't work. So now were on Enfamil, Nutramign and that seems to be working well for him.

My son has acid reflux as well and we have to elevate him at all times. His crib mattress has wood under it so that the mattress is on a 25 degree angle. If you continue to breast feed try cutting milk out of your diet and see if that helps. Worst case Pump and feed him that way you can controll the flow and amount better

Yes definetly try taking milk out of the mix... that is a common sensitivity. I am nursing my daughter that was born a day before yours and I can't have milk.... Peanut butter makes her spit up alot too... Makes me feel like she doesn't have any food in her when she spits up so much. I have an organic peanut butter and she does better with that. Also I waited a few weeks before eating peanut butter again. I also can't have caffiene, so I drink decafe in the morning with soy creamer. Sometimes it's just a sensetivity and if you go without what ever it is there sensitive to for about a month and then try it again they might have overcome it. Otherwise it could be an allergy. I have a milk allergy so it wouldn't suprise me if my daughter was allergic as well. Good luck I hope this helps.

My son was born on July 1st prematurely and he also throws up quite a bit. It did not start until he was about 3 weeks old. He throws up every time he eats. The doctor suggested that I change him from milk based formula to soy formula which didn't work. He then put him on Zantac for a diagnosis of gurd. Ive also started using different bottles. I went from using Avent to doctor browns and now finally on the playtex ventair, they work wonders. I sit him up while feeding him and with the new bottles, sitting him up and leaving him up straight after eating for 30 minutes he does better. Also making sure his bottles were to the exact temperature helped quite a bit. He still vomits, its just less severe. Hope everything works out.

My daughter was born July 1st and throws up often as well. She is exclusively breastfed and her pediatrician said she may have reflux. She said she may outgrow this soon, but if not we could give her baby Zantac. You might ask your pediatrician for some and see if it works. My daughter is 10 weeks and is throwing up a lot less often.

hi, my lad was born on the 21st july and like just like ur son he was sick after most feeds. I was told milk curdles in the tummy, this could explain the lumps. He has been given gaviscon infant for reflux and has not been sick since! Does he cry constantly or hiccup after feeds? these are signs of reflux. Cow and gate is a heavy formula, try putting him on aptimal or aptimal comform which is lighter on their little bellys xx hope this is some help to you and good luck xx

I have the same problem with my daughter, now 6 weeks old, she'll spit up with little chunks. As long as your baby is gaining weight and whatnot, there is nothing to worry about. stick to breast milk and try to make sure they burp good.

I had my daughter on july 13th and she was doing the same thing. I Had been giving her simalac advance but then i decided to try the enfamil spit up formula and in the past 6 days of being on that she has only thrown up once or twice. im going to talk to her doctor more about it next week at her 2 months check up. Another thing she was always crying like something was hurting her before the switch and breathing funny (still does a little bit) so i got to looking on the internet and there was a good possability that it was Infant Acid Reflux. I hope this helps.

My daughter is only on breast milk, but she also has a massive throw up every couple of days. From what my doctor told me, she is a fast drinker and might be over feeding herself and so has to throw up what is not needed for that feed and so that it does not hurt her belly.

Oh and also sometimes she fills up just from feeding on one side, so when I attempt to feed her on the other, she gags and throws up. But no chunks

My son (July 4th) didn't throw up as much but now he does but my ped told me that it's normal for them after a feed, cause at the tops of their stomachs are quite relaxed and that by moving them and squashing their stomachs they tend to bring up a bit of their milk. as they get older the stomach tightens and they tend to not throw up as much. When I go back to my ped in next few weeks I'm going to ask her why is he still doing it and it's now starting to smell acidic. Not that I'm complaining he's putting on weight *touch wood* I just hate the smell I'm starting to think he may be lactose intolerent, acid reflux maybe. Or something else... Babies are funny I had no problems of any sort with my daughter (3.5yr) this is like new to me as well.

I would talk with your doc cause my son did the same thing with breast milk and formula and I took out dairy out of my diet as well as citrus and eggs and nuts when I was breatsfeeding and he still threw my breast milk up. I then started him on Gerber Good Start Gentle Plus and he hasn't had a single problem with it. he spits up only when I don't burp him enough.^_^ but sadly I had to stop breatsfeeding cause he was constantly ill on my breast milk no matter what I ate.The doc says it is possible he was intolerant to my breastmilk its like a one in 1,000 chance or something lol talk to your ped and if they say its ok try cutting that stuff out of your diet and no formula cause switching diets on a baby constantly can make throwing up worse.

have you mentioned it to the doctor? My son threw up a lot and the doctor diagnosed him as having acid reflux - it's apparently very common. He takes medication now and is MUCH better.

They actually did a swallow study on him because he wasn't gaining weight and he was always screaming when he ate (they assume it was hurting when he ate). Also he was throwing up like two hours after he ate and throwing up like half of what he ate. Now he eats like a champ (happily) with his medication and barely throws up anymore just small amounts like spit up. I would ask your doctor about it or get a second opinion. We actually went to the GI peds specialist, but our doctor sent us to the specialist.

Ashley, i know it looks scary, but liquid always looks so much worse than it is when it comes up. Take a tablespon of water, and spill it on the counter... it looks like so much more! If he's gaining weight, and the doc doesnt seem worried, then youllbe just fine. :)

I had the same problem with my son while breastfeeding. Sometimes when he is gassy he gets really fussy and before we figured it out we just thought he was really hungry. He would eat and eat and eat and then throw it all up, because he was trying to self soothe his gassy stomach. Try burping him frequently, and possibly using Mylecon drops, they did wonders for us! Also the eliminating dairy is a good idea, my friend had that issue. Does he throw up after every meal or just sometimes? If it is after every meal it may be a lactose intolerance if it is only sometimes it is probably because he is gassy, not hungry. I hope this helps, best wishes to you and your little one! And keep up the breastfeeding!

i know how it feels, my son was the same, born 18th july. we tried everything, formula, sitting up etc... he became that dehydrated that we took him to the hospital it turned out that he had Pyloric Stenosis. this requires surgery, its just keyhole and they recover amazingly fast. my son had the surgery at 4 weeks old, he is thriving now and gaining weight. not trying to scare you, but its worth checking it out.
hope this is helpful to you. its horrible when there so sick.

I saw someone mention the Acid reflux thing. My youngest twin girl (july 31st) has bad acid reflux and throws up an awful lot. I would check with your pediatrician - gentle formulas help, and ive been told mixing them with a teensy bit of cereal to help it sit in teh stomach, along with not lying your baby on its back after eating, prop them up or use a bouncy seat or hold them, let gravity help you out! Good luck!

Yes it is the target up and up brand soooo much cheaper and it is the same thing. He is doing so good on the soy based formula... i strongly suggest it. My doctor said that 1/2 babies start off soy based. (and it smells so much better then the other stuff!)

Krista - posted on 08/29/2010

First off.........is your son burping every time he eats? If he doesn't burp properly it could be the reason. If the milk sits in his stomach without a proper burp, he will then try to burp later and it could bring up quite a bit.
Second, young babies have a tendency to eat more than their stomaches can allow, given that their stomaches are little bigger than a lima bean for the first little while. Given that their only form of food is liquid, it's a pretty common thing for them to spit up. As long as your son is lucid, gaining weight and happy with many soiled diapers, he is fine.
Please do not stop breastfeeding until you actually speak to a doctor.
My daughter was born the day after your son and I find that if she doesn't burp properly, she spits up quite a bit.
Also...the chunks that you are seeing are from milk that's already settled in his stomach and has sat in the stomach acid, causing it to curdle.

So you use soy target brand.?

I'm not sure if he is lactose or has acid reflex. I think he may have acid reflex.
Hmm

they are def really close in age

I would stop the formula and take dairy out of your diet and continue breastfeeding. If dairy is the issue that will resolve the problem. Much cheaper and easier option than trying different formulas.

My son born july 15th so they are so close in age! he was throwing up a ton too.. we are using the target up and up brand - same as the name brands just like 10 dollars cheaper. I called the doc and explained he was spitting and throwing up alot, and had alot of gas. He told me to switch to soy based formula. I would try that and stop breast feeding - your baby could be lactose intolerant. very common! it solved our problems - he is so much happier too!!
