What does it mean when your child has high muscle tone?

12 hours after my son was born (vacuum assisted delivery) he started having seizures (15 in 12 hours... None since that first day) He spent 1 week in the NICU... Now he has to go back to the hospital every 4 months for check ups to make sure he is meeting all of his milestones. During his first check up they noticed when he lays on his back he really fails his arms around... They said he has high muscle tone in his arms, back and legs... They are now sending him to a neurologist and for physiotherapy... We are worried about this and have tried to do some research on it, but haven't come up with anything... I find they try not to say too much at the hospital. Has anyone else experienced this, or heard of this... What was the outcome? Thank you in advance!

Thank you!!

I have an appt with his ped this Friday... I talked to him on the phone last week, he said it could be as simple as the baby urinating at the time... We are taking him for an exam anyway, peace of mind!!

I'm pretty sure just high muscle tone is as simple as it sounds. Meaning he just has a high amount of muscle, but of coarse.. Too much of anything isn't good. I don't think it should be anything to be TOO worried about though. But congratulation on your little one and I hope the best for your family!
