Is there any one older with Children enlisted in Military and gone to training or Iraq, Baghdad,ETC.?

Hello. I'm in my mid-50's and my husband is 60. His youngest daughter joined the guard and is leaving for Iraq early next year. I'd like to find a support group with ideas for supporting her while she is over there. Prayer groups, what to send in packages, etc. She is on facebook but we'd like to be able to reach out to her even more with packages, books, etc. Look forward to learning from and leaning on others.

My youngest of 3 who was 10 when she went in the Air Force this past year. She turned 20 in Tech school, and was home on her first leave a week after that, then off ot her first base in Turkey. My daughter and I are very close, as we have been thru alot together, so this is and was very hard to see her leave, as we never know when it will be when we see them again, or talk to them again. She is on Facebook so that kinda helps me. I can't wait to have her back in the states again. Her next base will be in Italy. She found that our her first day when she reported in. The way I look at it, how else would she have seen these places if she would not have went in? I am excited for her. She has already seen Kid Rock, Sophia Bush, Austin Nichols and a few others since been there. The Air Force even quoted her on something that had to do with these stars there. That is exciting now that it went into the AirForce news. SO ther is always something good so far. I wish the best for her and everyone else who is fighting for our country.

Hello, My name is Julie and my son was in the first group of Army that invaded Iraq and he also did a second tour in Iraq. I am thankful he came back home after both tours. It is a very difficult time for the ones they leave behind, but faith will bring you through. You have to believe that they are putting themselves in harms way because they believe in what they are doing! I salute all our servicemembers!!

Hello, my name is Wendy my son is currently in iraq on his second tour. He was injured the first time he went so I am even more worried this time than last time. But I have faith that God will keep him safe.

My son has been to Iraq once and is headed there a second time. He joined the Army 3 years ago and I have seen him for a total of 1 1/2 months since.

Hello all, my name is Sandy and my son is a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp and has served two tours of duty in Iraq and has just arrived at Camp Kaneohe, Hawaii for a three year tour. His father is a Veteran of the Vietnam War so we are pretty much a military family. Each time he has deployed is probably the worst times of my life but I have survived.

my son came back in 2007 !! want to talk tho"' i didn't have anyone but daughter and hubby!!his wife divorced him when she came back from boot camp in 2007 too so it was rough for him! he went back to college and is now off for the summer and then he was laid off in this economy just last week,but has a severance packeage and still has army pay to help him get by!do you have a group of family thing at his base to keep up on stuff with ?

Hi-

My son Ben, is in the Army and currently doing his AIT at Ft. Eustis. We don't know where he will end up after his training. To soon to tell. My brother is currently in Afghanistan, and my nephew is in Iraq. This all can certainly become consuming....wondering where they are, what they are doing, are they OK. I do that with Ben who is stateside! He is 21 and it appears he has finally found his way.

Our younger son (29) just returned from 15 months of deployment in Iraq. Our oldest son is currently in various training courses as he begins his military career -- he may eventually get orders for Afghanistan; we don't know at this point. I am 51 and my husband is 59 -- so I guess that makes us "older".

Hi Shawnya, It's was so nice to hear from you. I thank you and all the other MOM'S that have written to me. It has been wonderful. I mean you know there are others in your shoes but not anyone close at home. People here at home don't want to talk about him being gone. I guess they think I'll just fall to pieces. But you know it does help. I will be praying for you and your son. I understand what you said from the beginning cause my son joined National Guard while still in High School and graduated in June 07 and then boot camp in July 07. He even started college after he returned from boot camp and only got to got 2 mos. before they called. The recuriters told us he would never have to go to Iraq or any where if he would go to college after boot camp. But Barry loves the military and says after he returns next year he is going to go Active Duty and I do support him. I feel if he loves doing that much then he'll be happy, and maybe careful as well.

I guess I have rambled on enough, Thank you for sharing and wanting to be a prayer worrier with me and supporter.

Hello,  I am Laura and both of my sons are in the Navy.  Eric works with the F18's and has been in for 15 1/2 years and is stationed in Oceana, VA.  Bryant has been in for 12 years and made Chief Petty Officer last September in Millington, TN.  He is stationed in Little Rock, AR with his wife.  Both boys love what they are doing and do it well.  The Navy has wonderful family support on or near the bases.  Other support can be found online if one needs it.

I am very proud of all of our sons and daughters for helping to keep this country free.  My thanks and support goes out to all.

I am an AZ mom with a daughter preparing for deployment to Kuwait. I might add that there is a very supportive site here for moms: www.navyformoms.com. Earlier this month I was able to get together with other moms in my area. Give it a try!

There are websites that lend alot of support to families who have sons and daughters serving in the military It was really tough the first time my son went to Iraq I prayed everyday sent packages weekly and thanked God when he came home safe Be supportative and proud that you raised a son or daughter willing to serve. Something that helps me is i try to imagine how moms of policemen and firefighters etc deal with knowing that everyday these courageous people put their lives on the line to protect us

HI, Lisa, I'm Paula, and I am there with you. I am older than you 51, but this is my baby that is 20,in the National Guard 883rd Engineering,out of Hamlet, NC. They are in training in Mississippi,now,due to go to California,in March and Baghdad in April for at least a year. I am thankful that Barry (my son) dosen't have a wife and child to leave behind. But I guess for us as parents it would help here at home. But this is something he really loves, the military and I really look for him to join Active Duty either over there or when he gets back home in 2010. I hate that your son has to leave his family, that is the hard part not to mention Mom. I am so glad to hear from you and I would love to stay in touch and be of support in anyway I can, if you would like that, too. I will keep your son along with you and his family in my prayers. Hi, I'm Lisa. I am almost 39, from Panam City, Fla. My youngest child Kyle is currently stationed with the NAVY in San Diego. He is getting deployed for the Persian Gulf in July, 09' with his squadron HSL-49 aboard the USS Pickney DDG-91. This will be his 1st deployment and time away from his wife and son since he wa a boot camp Sept-Dec 07.
