It is really easy for kids to learn different languages, they don't have any problems at all. The only thing is that it may delay their talking but we were told that that was normal for children learning 2 languages at the same time. We started talking to my daughter both english and spanish since she was born and now she's fluent. My son is two. Good luck and just keep talking to them

hey! I was trying to see how you were incorporating both languages for a baby. We are both from south america, and raised here. Any tips?

Hello. I have a 3 month old little girl Arianna, her father is Mexican and speaks english/spanish very well. Has anybody had luck with teaching there children both? Does it confuse them at all?

Hola!

I just had my son back in December. His name is Lorenzo. I am Bolivian and the father is Brazilian, so he has a very interesting and latin culture! I am so excited and can't wait to teach him spanish. Any ideas for easy transition, especially since his dad doesn't speak spanish fluently? Don't want to make him left out...

Hello everyone! My name is Angelica and I have a 13 year old girl (Jaklyn-Mahree) and 14 month boy (Noe Domingo). Jak understands Spanish but refuses to speak it and we are trying to get Noe to speak more Spanish. Jak's dad (we were married 10 year) spoke only English and Noe's dad (married 2 years) speaks mostly Spanish.
I am 1st generation American, from Mexican and Spanish descent. fluent in both English and Spanish. I have worked as an ESL aid, HeadStart Preschool Teacher/ Family Advocate/ Health Program Assistant/Infant Toddler Caregiver and am an independant translator and interpreter.
I have also started the Mundo Multicultural Community on Circle of Moms, please feel free to stop by!

Hi Tyelinda! With our son, not only does his dad speak to him in spanish daily, but if we play a video he's used to watching, we'll switch it over to Spanish. Really, when they are so young, they can pick up 5-7 languages all at the same time. It's really a matter of giving them the opportunity to use the languages they learn. It's great that your son has an aunt that can teach him! Learn some simple words of everyday objects your son uses and begin by teaching him those words in Spanish and then build from there. The key is just to be consistent with it.

Hi! I just joined. My son is almost 2. He's 1/4 Puerto Rican. His father and I speak English and I speak some spanish but not fluently. His aunt watches him for me and speaks spanish only to him. I would like him to grow up bilingual, fluent in both languages and am looking for the best methods.

Hello, I just joined this forum hoping to see if more people might participate. I'm a mother of a mixed child. My son is Trent. His father is Argentinean and I'm american. We are trying to raise Trent to be bi-lingual, and hopefully I can learn as he learns.
