my daughter is 19 months and i can clearly understand what she says in english. i dont know very much spanish and she knows she will get mad at me and go off one this rampage of words i dont know. her daddy is in mexico trying to get his visa and should be home next week. he has told me before that she is speaking spanish. i asked him what she said and he wouldn't tell me he thought it was funny. but what am i going to do when she is 16 and is cussing me one night and i dont know what she's saying? im scared that she already knows that i dont understand her.

To amanda, even if she knows more spanish than english at this stage, once she gets in school, she will be surronded by english and will catch up with english. It will then be difficult to keep her spanish up to par.

If she is only 19 months now, you can learn the language with her. SHe doesn't know that much of the language that you can't catch up to her. Try to learn the languag with her.

My daughter is only 11 months so we havent crossed that bridge yet but she responds better to spanish already. I only speak english but when she is home with her dad he only speaks spanish and so does our babysitter so I am worried that even though we live in the US it will be harder for her to learn english.
