I have had Epilepsy for as long as I can remember. I am currently taking two medications. Felbatol, which is not widely used and Zonegran that I know is.

When we found out that we were pregnant there was no question that I would continue to take my medication. The side effects of taking my medication through out my pregnancy weighed heavily but I had already decided that I would continue to take it, since no other anti-seizure medication had worked for me.

6 months after our son was born we noticed that he was having abscence (petit-mal) seizures. A week or so later we were at Hollywood Video and he went into a grand-mal seizure. When we brought it up to the doctor he told us that he was just trying to get attention. I had heard of kids (toddlers) rolling there eyes to get attention but to fake a grand-mal seizure, I think not. He had more. When he was 1 1/2 years old we were at his grandmas and I was holding him and he went into convulsions. When we finally got into the doctor and got the EEG one of the residents saw him having his abscence seizures and asked me, "is this what happens when he has them?" I told him yes. Nothing showed up on the EEG. Just as nothing shows up on mine when I have EEG's done. The only thing that they gave him was DIASTAT for grand mal seizures. I want to know if we as parents are seeing this and experiencing this, plus family members too. Why can't they do anything??? Feed back would be helpful....

Thank you,

Nicole

My daughter is 10 and having the same thing happening. So far has had 2 grand mal seizures, and about 3 or 4 of the absence seizures. All tests are coming up normal and they have just prescribed her Keppra and also the diastat. The doctors are not able to provide comforting answers on whats going on and its so scary and frustrating to me. She had the first grand mal seizure about a year and a half ago, the doctors answer was pretty much "sometimes people just have seizures". Our family has no known history of seizure disorders. Totally confused, any information any one has would be greatly appreciated. I'll post new information I find out as it becomes available. Thank you,
Jesse
