Has anyone done the glucose test yet? If so what's it like? Another thing, my Doctor said because I have a neg blood type I will need a shot, but I'm still not sure about it...any info?

Oh sheesh, yes. The awful tangy orange sugar water and the shot in the butt cheek. I have friends who got it in the leg/arm... but I've gotten it in the butt and that was the worst part of my first pregnancy, lol. I had an hour drive back home on one cheek!

I got the paperwork to do both the glucose and the shots, I get to do them after Thanksgiving. So hopefully all goes well. Thank you for all the info.

first, we rh neg gals need what i call 'prison blood shots' (because the blood part can often be harvested in prison 'donation' units where the pay prisoners to donate) IF you want it. No one can make you. The shot is to protect you from the baby's blood, should any mix with yours at any time. If you have any bleed during pregnancy, only vaginal bleeding, they may want you to have one; this is in case the baby is Rh Positive and your body then fights that blood. It could have an effect in a any subsequent pregnancy if not given the Rh antibody shot. I had 3 during my first pregnancy, as I had 2 bleeding episodes and I had another after my c-section.

The glucose test is also controversial and NOT required. I did it with both, but that was my choice, as I am high risk gestational diabetes. The sugar drink, taken on 12hr no-food restriction, is yuck, but drink it really cold and its fine. I was v faint and sick but kept it down this time. Testing for everyone has been recommended the last 15 yrs or so, but now we are starting to question why we test women with no risk factors, as too much sugar MAY be problematic to the baby. For me the test was not an issue, but read up. Google both these things to decide for yourself what is best for you. Informed choices are the choices we sleep best with. Good luck.

I'm getting my glucose test done a couple days aft 29 weeks which is rather late. I had one with my previous pregnancy. I drank a gross sugary liquid they gave me (suposidly orange flavor) over no more than a period of 5 minutes... couldn't eat or drink anything after that until after they drew blood 1 hour later.. Everything came back fine for me and it wasn't a big deal. I have had friends that had to have a second test done because their levels where too high on the test. I believe their second test was over a period of 3 hours. Those came back okay for them.

I'm a negative blood type so I don't know about that.

All I know is my doctor wants me to have blood tests at 26 weeks. Glucose tests and Anemia test. I have to fast for the test, and then go back a few hours later for a 2nd test.

Glucose test is around 28 weeks, same time as the Rhogam shot for Rh negative pregnancies.
This is my 3rd pregnancy, and 4th Rhogam shot... I had first shot at 28 weeks, then my first son was also negative so I didn't have to have a second one until I was pregnant (28weeks again) with my second son and a 3rd shot after he was born because he was a rh positive. Now I am 23 weeks pregnant and will be going again for my 4th shot, we will see if baby girl is positive or negative ,,,
I highly suggest the shot, no side effects, doesnt hurt, and will protect any of your following pregnancies. For more information check out this site I found... http://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/as...
